00:00Heath Ledger had a feeling that The Dark Knight would find its audience and according to Andrew
00:05Garfield, he did not keep that thought just to himself.
00:10During his latest appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Andrew Garfield said
00:15that he and the late actor crossed paths shortly after Ledger finished filming Christopher
00:19Nolan's The Dark Knight.
00:22He was so smug about it, Garfield said of Heath Ledger talking about his time on Nolan's
00:28set.
00:29I was like, how did that go?
00:30And he replied, yeah, it's really good.
00:34The Amazing Spider-Man star continued, he was so free and so wild and so kind of dangerous
00:40on set in a way that was the kind of thing that is inspiring and spontaneous.
00:44He would say before every take, let's have some fun with this one.
00:50Garfield's appreciation of remaining spontaneous lives on in his approach to acting today.
00:54He recently lamented to IndieWire that we are much less intimate with ourselves and
00:59we are much less intimate with death, our feelings, reality.
01:02Actually, we are much less intimate with reality.
01:05There's such a kind of dividedness around how we experience the world now and I think
01:09it feels like this is a film filled with longing in that way.
01:14Ledger died at the age 28 of an accidental drug overdose about six months before the
01:19release of The Dark Knight, but his protective powers turned out to be true.
01:23When The Dark Knight arrived in theatres in July 2008, six months after Heath Ledger's
01:28death, the actor was proven right.
01:30The Christopher Nolan-helmed film broke several box office records, became the highest-crossing
01:34film of that year and is still assessed as one of the greatest superhero films ever.
01:39Ledger earned numerous posthumous accolades, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting
01:43Actor.
01:46He only had the pleasure of working with Ledger briefly, but added that the actor had a noticeable
01:51impact on everyone who worked with him.
