00:00What's up, guys?
00:11My name is Kirby Bell.
00:13I'm playing bass for Pink Shift, on tour with the Gaslight Anthem and Joyce Manor, and this
00:19is my gear.
00:20So I play a five string, what is it, Sterling Music Man.
00:26I have mostly dropped C sharp tuning, besides the low string is a B. Got three little knobs
00:37on here.
00:38The knobs came ripped off, but I kind of like it, it's a little bit punk.
00:43This does bass, treble, and volume here.
00:49So the bass is maxed out here, treble.
00:53I max it out, and then I dial it back just a hair, volume is maxed out.
00:59We have a five way pickup selector here.
01:02I like to keep it on the fourth channel, which is more of a, it's passive, you got two passive
01:08channels, three active pickup options, number four is the one for me.
01:16So this fourth pickup, it's passive, and it's just this bridge, coil.
01:22Alright, I'm playing DR Brights.
01:24I don't know the gauge, don't know the string, it's five strings.
01:29I look for the DR Bright package and pick it up off the shelf.
01:34Alright, so over here, my pedal board, this is the power supply.
01:40I'm using a Polytune 3 for my tuning, goes into a SP compressor, I also use the compressor
01:50that's on my Ampeg Portaflex, just like up a hair.
01:56Keep this dialed at 50, volume at 50.
02:02Going into my Canyon Delay Looper.
02:05I've messed around with the bigger version, but I like the small one because it's less
02:09options and I pretty much keep it stuck to tape.
02:14Sometimes I put it in in reverse during practice and mess around with that for shows it's on
02:20tape, volume on 50, delay, up just a hair, gives it like a nice chorus effect, feedback.
02:29I play between here and here.
02:34And then that's going into my volume, Ernie Ball VP Junior.
02:39I just picked this up last month, really straight forward, plain volume, signal, that's all
02:49I could ask for.
02:50So I keep the compressor on for the whole set, the delay I turn on for, I want to say,
02:56three songs.
02:58On the Suraksha EP that came out about last year, I have this on for Home, for To Me,
03:06and then for the song Trust Fall, which we're using as the closer.
03:10So I go really crazy at the end and just dial the delay back and forth, get some wicked
03:16feedback going.
03:17So the head is an Ampeg Portaflex 500.
03:22I've been using this guy for three years at this point.
03:27It's really solid, really trustworthy, I've never had a problem with it.
03:32Keep the compression up just a hair, gain, because I'm on the passive pickup thing on
03:40my bass, I have the gain all the way up here.
03:44It gives you this low, ultra low, ultra high option just to bring out the treble or the
03:51bass.
03:52So I keep the low end on, dial the bass back just a little bit, and then for my mid-range
04:00frequencies I boost around the 100.
04:08Usually I have this at 50, and the treble just a little bit under 50.
04:16There's an FX button, or FX return send loop on the back.
04:21I use that sometimes if I'm using a distortion, but I didn't bring distortion for this tour.
04:27Honestly, I wasn't thinking about it, just packed up the pedals without my distortion,
04:33and it's working for me.
04:36Volume stays put at 50.
04:38I do not know what model this is, I got this used from Atomic Music in Beltsville, Maryland.
04:44I'll always shout those guys out because they help me a ton.
04:47Honestly, this is something that I brought on the tour also kind of last minute.
04:52I play out of an SWR for our other shows, but this one, I think I brought it with the
05:01intent just to have more height.
05:04I think having some height helps me on stage.
05:08So I brought this amp because the height gives me some leverage as we're playing bigger stages,
05:13Salt Shed in Chicago.
05:15So I don't have the picks that I use on me.
05:18I think they're Dunlop 2mm, actually Paul picked them up for me.
05:22I asked for the heaviest ones in the shop.
05:26Other than that, I also use the Prodigies, which also Paul put me on to a little while ago.
05:32Ernie Ball brand, like super pointy at the end.
05:35Check out Pingshift on all socials at PingshiftMD.
