Inbox zero is great, but if you’re only doing it for aesthetics, you do not understand the whole issue. My mistake has been not explaining what it means when I post screenshots of my email window on Twitter.

00:00Earlier today, I tweeted my email app, which is Apple mail and
00:08basically saying I've pretty much done everything and it's not
00:12even 12 o'clock now.
00:13One of my followers on Twitter replied and he basically said
00:19I'm just reading it.
00:20Now the focus isn't empty inbox goal.
00:25Totally true and I think where I've made the mistake is posting
00:30my email inbox and saying, you know, this is you can do this
00:33and you can do it, but that's not the goal, which is rightly
00:38so, which is what he said.
00:39The goal is to make sure that you actually do the things in
00:44your inbox, but put them in the right places what I replied
00:49was having a great conversation having a having a bunch of
00:57emails you have basically have to put them in the right places.
00:59So you read it you delegate it you deal with it.
01:02They're basically the three base three things that you need
01:05to do with email that comes in.
01:07I've talked about this before email comes in you deal with it
01:10and get it out of your inbox.
01:11So having inbox 0 isn't the goal having it look nice isn't
01:16Really the goal and my again, my mistake is not explaining
01:20it more.
01:20The point is to when the email comes in to put it into the
01:25right place.
01:26So your email does look nice right your email app.
01:30So you're not constantly concentrating on oh, I have to deal
01:35with that thing in my inbox going into your inbox and then
01:39seeing a ton of emails a ton of things and then getting overwhelmed
01:44and not getting anything done.
01:45So email comes in you read it you delegate it you deal with it
01:51you put it in the right place Etc.
01:52So it can be done.
01:54I've done it for years.
01:56There are many people like David who is on Twitter following
02:02me. He also does the same thing.
02:04There are many people that do do this where it goes wrong.
02:09I think it's not necessarily how people using the wrong email
02:14app or using the wrong system again.
02:17Like I said yesterday, I don't like systems.
02:19It's making sure that you get everything done in the right
02:25time frame, right?
02:26So 8 hours a day.
02:28I still believe you don't need to work at 8 hours a day 40% of
02:33that is fluff.
02:34I've spoken about this before so you've got the rest of the
02:36day to actually get your work done.
02:38But if your tools are not ready and your email comes in and it's
02:41all full you get overwhelmed and it goes over to the next day
02:45and you get overwhelmed the next day Etc.
02:47Etc.
02:48So it's kind of like a domino effect.
02:50If you don't have things organized and sorted so back to the
02:56original thing email inbox 0 is awesome, but don't think it's
03:03an aesthetic thing.
03:04It's more to do with the I have the right workflows.
03:08Hence my I have inbox 0 hopefully that cleared things up.
03:12I'll put a link to the tweet down below.
03:15You can go and read the rest of it and as always keep it simple
03:20and I'll see you in the next one.
