00:00Now we review the 2023 film...
00:04BATMAN!
00:06THE DOOM THAT CAME TO GOTHAM!
00:09MUAHAHAHAHA!
00:12Why am I laughing?
00:14I don't think I should be laughing.
00:16Alright ladies and gentlemen, I am Richard, this is Random Street Theater,
00:19and I have seen...
00:21BATMAN! THE DOOM THAT CAME TO GOTHAM!
00:24Yes.
00:26Before I go any further, let me remind you that if you don't want Doom to come to the entire world,
00:30you should comment, like, and subscribe,
00:32because for every thousand subscribers I get, I do purchase one of these bracelets
00:35from 4ocean. 4ocean then pulls a ton of trash out of the ocean every time I do that.
00:38Now...
00:40THE DOOM THAT CAME TO GOTHAM.
00:46What you have is a reimagining of Batman
00:49using much of the Bat-family
00:52only considerably earlier in time
00:58before the common implementation of the steam engine for shipping
01:05and it's more of a Lovecraftian story than it is a Batman story.
01:11But because it's a one-off shot,
01:13no one is safe.
01:16No one is safe.
01:18But, I mean, some of these characters here,
01:21what you start out with is
01:25Bruce Wayne has commissioned a
01:31expedition to the Arctic
01:33to try and find
01:35Penguin,
01:37who in this particular
01:40iteration is not a supervillain, but rather a professor
01:45I believe from Miskatonic University,
01:47because that's the university that exists within the Lovecraftian universe.
01:52And of course, what they found is the means to summon Cthulhu, I think.
01:57Maybe some other Lovecraftian god, but...
02:03The reanimator himself, Jeremy Combs, plays Victor Freeze,
02:08who's blinded himself because
02:10to look on the face of Cthulhu is to invite madness.
02:15And, yeah, what happens is that
02:19Batman winds up fighting a Lovecraftian god.
02:26Yes, but not Batman
02:28winds up fighting a Lovecraftian god.
02:31Discount Batman winds up fighting a Lovecraftian god,
02:35because the real Batman would have pretty much kicked that Lovecraftian god's hiney
02:40all the way back to the underworld,
02:42and we all know that.
02:46To be flatly honest with you,
02:51there is a... I don't know what it's called, but it's a...
02:57spiritual realm
02:59in the DC universe,
03:01and that spiritual realm
03:06has a Cthulhu of sorts.
03:10I don't know what that entity's name is,
03:12but I do recall watching an animated film
03:16where Solomon Grundy fought this creature,
03:20which, you know, has a Cthulhu-esque appearance.
03:25So that is something that exists in pretty much
03:29comic book adaptations of Batman.
03:33Why there has to be a reimagining where Batman
03:37faces off against
03:41Cthulhu
03:43back in the 1800s,
03:45I don't know!
03:48To say this is a bad movie is certainly not the case.
03:52It is a fine movie,
03:54but you have to understand that it is a completely sealed story
03:58with characters that, for the most part,
04:01are, in name alone,
04:03who we have here.
04:05I mean...
04:07Batman don't do a lot of Batman in this movie,
04:11or at least this universe.
04:13Green Arrow also shows up.
04:18Interesting character.
04:20Two-Face.
04:22Very good reason for him to be Two-Face in this.
04:25Yes, I think it may surprise you, but he's there.
04:29And a whole host of Catman...
04:31Batman.
04:32A whole host of Batman characters
04:34are brought into this movie for the very simple sake
04:38of you having recognition.
04:40I believe this is a series
04:42where they said, you know, let's take the concept of these characters
04:45and apply them to something else.
04:47The thing there being is that
04:51Batman does have a superpower.
04:54His superpower is subconscious clairvoyance.
04:58So the idea that he would be both the
05:02catalyst behind much of this happening
05:06and the solution to it
05:08is a little dumb.
05:11And, I mean, you might say, well,
05:13given the rich history of Batman
05:16and the distinguishing nature of the character,
05:20it is very possible that you could have this as a true iteration.
05:24But...
05:27I mean, you know, somewhere in the multiverse,
05:29this may be a Batman.
05:31It just doesn't feel very Batman to me.
05:35Also, Man-Bat,
05:37in its own particular way,
05:39makes an appearance in this particular version
05:43of the Batman mythos.
05:45And I have to say,
05:49it is a fine enough movie.
05:52It is enjoyable.
05:53It belongs very much in the middle of your watch list.
05:56It is a great thing to watch for the spooky season
06:00because of its spooky imagery,
06:02its dark nature,
06:04and its Lovecraftian elements.
06:09If you're a mainstream Batman fan,
06:13you're just going to look at this and be like,
06:15WTF, dude?
06:18If you're not a strong Batman fan,
06:21if you can't look at these characters and be like,
06:24OK, yeah, that's that guy, that's that guy,
06:26you're going to be, huh?
06:29If you don't know Penguin's full name,
06:33this is not the movie for you.
06:36It is otherwise a very enjoyable film,
06:39certainly worth watching,
06:41particularly in the fall.
06:43But just take into account,
06:45it has a very distinctive flavor.
06:48You know, it's...
06:49That's...
06:51Not everyone's going to look at this and be like,
06:53OK, this is cool.
06:55Some people are going to look at it and be like,
06:56that's not Batman.
06:58And yes, it is Batman,
06:59because Batman can be a lot of things.
07:01This is one of them.
07:02So yes,
07:03middle of your watch list,
07:06I would put it below
07:09Batman Meets the Ninja Turtles.
07:13Uh...
07:14And...
07:15That's about it, you know?
07:17Solid enough film.
07:18But, if you've seen it,
07:20I'd like to hear your opinion down in the comments below.
07:22I'm Richard.
07:23Alright, ladies and gentlemen,

07:37and saved the planet to
07:39metal from Koronker around my neck.
07:41Yes.
07:42Koronker.
07:43Koronker.
