00:00Hello there. Welcome to your weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Windy throughout the weekend with weather warnings for wind in force,
00:08particularly across Irish sea coast and the North Channel.
00:11Let me take you through the broader picture for the next 48 hours.
00:14A quieter spell as the first batch of rain clears towards the northeast on Saturday,
00:19and then this system develops and moves its way northwards,
00:22the centre of the low pressure system tracking across Ireland.
00:25Strongest winds towards the south as well as the eastern flank for a time,
00:29reason why there have been wind warnings issued.
00:31Coastal gusts could reach 50 to 55 miles an hour, isolated 60 miles an hour with some high waves.
00:37Let's backtrack then to Friday evening.
00:40The first weather systems moving up towards the northeast of Scotland.
00:43Gales for a time here, strong gusts towards the northwest of Scotland,
00:47and then showers, which will be heavy at times through the evening and overnight on Friday,
00:52track their way northwards as well.
00:54Some strong winds associated with it down towards the southwest,
00:57but the winds will pick up further as we head through to Saturday.
01:00Generally, though, with that cloud, the wind and some showery bursts of rain,
01:03temperatures holding up, most places will be frost free.
01:06So let's look at Saturday morning.
01:09First of all, Scotland, showery bursts of rain extend their way northwards,
01:12dry skies towards the northwest of Scotland, even with some brighter skies for a time.
01:16One or two showers for Northern Ireland as well as Wales.
01:20A little bit of brightness coming in across the West Country,
01:23a few showers lurking towards the southeast of England.
01:26But through the day, we lose a lot of the wind as it pushes up towards the Northern Isles.
01:31Those showers continue through the morning,
01:33but some brighter skies emerge across central and southern parts of England and Wales.
01:37Still one or two showers lurking there, but a quieter spell of weather
01:41before this system arrives as we head through the afternoon on Saturday.
01:45So some heavy rain to come.
01:47And also those winds really pick up to gale force with gusts along the coast
01:51down towards the West Country as well as southern parts of Wales
01:54coming in around 50 to 55 miles an hour, isolated 60 miles an hour.
01:58Temperatures then through the afternoon, well, 10 to 12 degrees Celsius.
02:02Not so bad, to be honest.
02:04And here's your outlook through Sunday.
02:06Yes, that area of low pressure tracks its way northwards, taking with it the gales,
02:10but a windy start to the day across the north as well as the west,
02:13with showers to follow as that rain clears.
02:15It quietens down as we head through Monday into Tuesday.
