00:00Hello. Welcome along to your national weather update.
00:03Big contrasts with the weather across the UK at the moment.
00:07It's much colder across the south compared to the north.
00:10The reason for that high pressure dominating across the south.
00:13The air has been stagnating for a number of days and a bit of an easterly breeze
00:17bringing the colder air in from the continent.
00:20Meanwhile, low pressure systems to the north of the UK and westerly winds
00:24bringing milder air in from the Atlantic.
00:27And that pattern will continue for at least the next day or so.
00:31Let's bring it back to Monday evening, however,
00:34because with those clear skies and the cold air,
00:35there will again be a hard frost forming across parts of England and Wales.
00:39Not quite so cold across the east of East Anglia and the far southeast of England,
00:43with more clouds spilling in here.
00:46In this clearer zone, as well as sending frosty,
00:48some dense patches of fog are likely to form through the night
00:52and then linger for a good part of Tuesday.
00:55Generally further north, just a lot of clouds.
00:57Some holes in that cloud across northeast Scotland.
01:00The thickest cloud in the west with rain and drizzle at times
01:03over the hills of northwest England, southwest Scotland
01:05and along the west coast of Scotland.
01:07Generally a bit of a dank and drizzly start to Tuesday.
01:11Fairly breezy here as well.
01:12But remember those breezes coming in from the Atlantic.
01:15So again, a mild start here to Tuesday.
01:19Whereas in the south, another hard frost forming well below freezing,
01:22even in towns and cities.
01:24And don't forget there will be that fog around on Tuesday morning
01:27that may well linger into the afternoon in this zone from East Yorkshire
01:31down to Norfolk and across to southwest England and south Wales.
01:36It will be patchy that fog and it will steadily lift.
01:38But as I said, some patches may linger into the afternoon.
01:41Then we'll have some sunshine in this zone
01:44and perhaps across parts of northeast Scotland.
01:46But a cloudier day for the east of East Anglia and down towards the far southeast
01:50may even be the odd light shower coming in here at times,
01:53especially on the coast over the hills of north Wales, northwest England.
01:57A bit of drizzle at times and it will be a damp one again
02:00across the west coast of Scotland with a brisk breeze
02:02and some patchy light rain at times for Northern Ireland.
02:06But it will be mild here, double digits likely.
02:08And if we see any brightness across northeast Scotland,
02:10we could easily get to 12, perhaps even 13 Celsius.
02:14Whereas further south, even though we should have some spells of sunshine,
02:17four, five, six at best.
02:18And if the fog lingers into the afternoon,
02:21temperatures may struggle to get much above freezing.
02:23Under this cloudier zone, it's probably going to feel pretty cold
02:25at just five or six Celsius and without any sunshine.
02:29And pretty quickly with those clear skies, that blue comes back during Tuesday evening.
02:33So another frost and again, some thick fog patches likely across the south,
02:37but a bit of a shift further north.
02:39Weather fronts just bringing outbreaks of rain into Scotland
02:43and Northern Ireland trickling southwards.
02:44A milder night here, but still a hard frost likely with any clearer skies across the south.
02:49And again, some dense patches of fog, which could take a while to clear.
02:54But we are seeing a shift as this rain trickles into Northern England,
02:57a different day on Wednesday.
02:59Patchy rain spreading then south into parts of Wales,
03:01across the Midlands and maybe eventually into southern England too.
03:05Behind that, look at that brighter sky,
03:07some sunshine developing across the northern half of the UK.
03:11The winds have switched direction and they will be bringing showers
03:14into northern and western parts of Scotland.
03:16They're also bringing a cooler feel.
03:18So temperatures dropping off through Wednesday,
03:20despite some sunshine for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:22Temperatures again in the south, only single figures again feeling pretty cold,
03:26I suspect, but signs of things turning a little milder here.
03:30And as we go through the course of this week,
03:32this line of thick cloud with some patchy rain is a weather front
03:36that pushes its way further south and the high pressure then builds back in around the top of it.
03:42And that will keep things generally pretty dry through Thursday and Friday.
03:47These weather fronts, again, trying to bring some patchy rain to the far northwest.
03:50But generally speaking, this area of high pressure will keep things dry
03:54for much of the country throughout this week and probably into the weekend as well.
