00:00Everybody out!
00:02Everything we're doing here is the first time that anyone's ever doing it.
00:11When you put on the Apple Vision Pro, it does change the way you think about creating a story.
00:19It's a wonderful new medium that just expands the horizon of storytelling.
00:26Because you're not watching a movie anymore.
00:30You're inside the story.
00:34It's going to change the future of filmmaking.
00:40Tell him to turn towards me.
00:43I actually was going to...
00:46It's so real, you kind of go like, turn more.
00:50Submerged is about a group of people,
00:53Submerged is about a group of young navy men in the Second World War
00:59who are in the submarine and suddenly they're under attack.
01:08I think it's the perfect story to tell for the Apple Vision Pro
01:12because we get to look around, we get to hear in every direction.
01:18You basically have a camera that sees 180 degrees.
01:22You naturally become the camera operator.
01:25So someone would come in the door in your peripheral vision
01:28and you would naturally turn to see that person walk in
01:31and then walk into the sweet spot of the image.
01:34It transports you into this environment that you know that you aren't in
01:38and yet you see that you're there.
01:40It's much more real than anything else.
01:42Get everyone on first positions.
01:44Absolutely.
01:45We have one main character, James Dyson.
01:48He guides us through the story and we experience everything with him.
01:52We wanted to take the audience through a bit of a journey.
01:55When Dyson wakes up in the morning,
01:57we wanted to give a slight kind of thriller element to it
02:00which came about when Ed and I were breaking the script down visually.
02:08It truly is immersive.
02:10You're fully placed in the story
02:12and you can look around, witness things happening firsthand.
02:18We had to change our ways of thinking about filmmaking.
02:21You have to integrate the sound into the set.
02:30You have to integrate the lights into the set
02:32because you can't put up any lights anywhere.
02:34It basically challenges us in every way.
02:39The camera format has given us new challenges.
02:42With the 180 degree vision,
02:44we are having to think more about how we move a camera in a confined space
02:49without using track, dolly or anything that can be seen by the camera.
02:53I've worked a lot with the art department
02:55to create places within the set
02:57that we can hide a lot more of the moving mechanisms
03:00for moving a camera than we would on a normal shoot.
03:03It really opens up so many opportunities
03:06to immerse the viewer in such an amazing world.
03:15When you're watching the film on Vision Pro,
03:18you see everything in focus.
03:20Every detail is apparent.
03:23We've had to sort of up the level.
03:26So we built the set completely out of metal
03:29as accurately as possible, like a real submarine.
03:33We've pushed ourselves to use as many real materials wherever we can.
03:38Different surfaces, gloss, satin, to sort of build up interest.
03:45The fact that we're enclosed in quite an exciting space,
03:49wherever you look, there's something going on.
03:53When you're wearing the Vision Pro,
03:55you're always seeing the ceilings, the walls.
03:57We wanted it to feel authentic.
03:59Definitely wanted the audience to feel the claustrophobia of a submarine.
04:04The set that is behind me at the moment,
04:06that entire set gets completely submerged.
04:14It really puts you in the space and brings that fear
04:16that you find with the actors into your own head.
04:20You really can experience the story through one person's eyes.
04:25This is a very exciting tool for filmmakers.
04:29It's a new way of looking at cinema.
04:32When you put on the Apple Vision Pro
04:34and when you immerse yourself in this story,
04:36you really get a physical, emotional experience
04:41that I've never felt anywhere else before.
04:44In any movie, in any theater,
04:48you have to experience it for yourself.
