00:00Which car is the most fun around a little twisty circuit? Is it a Ford Fiesta ST,
00:05a Toyota GR Yaris or a BMW M2 CS? Well, I'm going to find out. I'm going to start off with
00:11a little Fiesta. Cheapest first, front wheel drive versus all wheel drive versus rear wheel drive.

01:56Okay, so it's a little Fiesta 1.5 litre three-cylinder engine with 200 horsepower,
02:02290 newton metres of torque. It's very, very, very lively, actually, this car.
02:07What's not so great about it, though, oh, some experiencing there, getting into this chicane,
02:11is the brakes. They are a little bit weak, shall we say. Fine for on the road, but on a track,
02:19they can soon run out of stopping power. The steering is really quite darty, just off centre,
02:26but it does have a slight rubbery feel to it. It's not the heaviest car, but it's not the lightest,
02:30about 1,200 kilos. It's also not the cheapest car. This one's £27,000 because it's the
02:36edition model. Here we go. Flying lap now. Oh, it's moving. Balance the car. Get this. Apex there.
02:47Work the throttle in. It's got good Michelin tyres on this. Pilot Sport 4S. Got to brake early here
02:55because the brakes don't like it. They don't like it. Braking into this apex. There we go.
03:00Get on the power. Steady the car. Come on. Got to nail this. Braking, braking, braking. Rolling it in.
03:08Rolling it in. Power to steady it. That's it. Looking through the corner. Balance it. Easy, easy, easy.
03:15Now, pow, pow, pow, pow. Slight lift to steady it. There we go. Get the weight forward. That's it.
03:20Weight transfer on the nose so I can dart in there. Braking. Oh, don't overbrake yourself. Got it.
03:25That was about as late as I could brake there.
03:30Oh, come on. Oh, on the kerbs. Use the kerbs. Here we go. The flying lap.
03:37Right, right, right. It's a bit bent out of shape, this car, but it is a lot of fun. So, Sam, what did I do?
03:45That was a 1.17.4. That's good.
03:491.17.4. Right, let's switch into the Yaris and see what I do with that.
03:56Right, now I'm in the little Yaris, my Toyota GI Yaris. You noticeably sit up higher in this,
04:02and I don't know if you can see, but I've had to move the rearview mirror to the side so I get a
04:07better view through the corners because this just blocks your vision. Once again, a three-cylinder
04:12turbo petrol, this time though, with 264 horsepower. It's also got 380 newton meters of torque. Weight-wise,
04:201280 kilos. Price, £33,000. And that's for the circuit pack with the limited slip diff at the
04:27front and at the back. Oh, it's so good. Big difference between these two cars, the Fiesta and this,
04:33is the brakes. The brakes on this are mega, much better. I can stop loads later. The steering's
04:40sharper as well and more natural. And of course, I've got four-wheel drive and I'm running in track mode.
04:44Start the lap now. So, so good through there. It really does drive very well. And in track mode,
04:54you've got 50-50 split and it really engages the front diff and helps pull you out of turns when
04:59you're on track. There's a bit more balance maybe in sport when you've got 70% of the rear. Come on,
05:04that's it. Get on the power. You will save a few tenths just running in track mode with an extra
05:12bite out of turns. I've got the auto blip on for the throttle, so I don't have to heel and toe
05:17because the pedals are still a bit too wide for me. Come on. Oh, go on. Just balance it on the throttle.
05:23It's so easy to drive quick this. This is the killer bit. Be brave. Little lift through here,
05:28get the weight on the nose. That's it. Come on. Hard on the brakes here. Whoa. Roll it in.
05:33Here we go. Last turn. Don't cock it up, Matt. Oh, that's nice through there. Oh,
05:38come on. Over the kerbs. Right. Here's the line.
05:45That just felt so much tidier and more balanced than in the Fiesta. Really, really did. Really
05:51did. Six grand difference because that Fiesta's top of the range. You'd have this every day.
05:56Entry level Fiesta ST. You know, they're around 22 grand. Better value for money. Better value
06:02for money. But this is such a thing. I love this. And on the road. Whoa. Not quite as playful,
06:09or should that be unstable as the Fiesta? Let's see what lap time I did, though. Come on.
06:17Come on, Sam. I better have beaten the Fiesta. You were pushing. What do you think? Do you think
06:21it was faster? Yeah, it was faster. Are you pushing harder or was it just faster? It's
06:24actually easier to drive quicker. Right. Well, you did a 14.1. Yes! Go, Yaris! Four-wheel drive
06:31was easier than front-wheel drive. Let's get the BMW a bit frightened now.
06:39Now I'm in the M2 CS. Rear-wheel drive time. And this is a beast. Three litre, straight six,
06:46twin turbo, 450 horsepower. And you've got 550 newton metres of torque. It's also a lot heavier
06:51than the Yaris and the Fiesta. It weighs in at just over 1,600 kilos. Plus, it's a lot more
06:56expensive. So this car costs £75,000. But this one has some upgrades, including carbon ceramic
07:02brakes. And they add six grand. But they're great if you get on track because they just don't fade
07:07like the steel brakes do. Seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which just changed gears so
07:12well. Oh, you do have to brake earlier in this. You really do. Roll it in. Come on, Matt. Sit.
07:20All right, here we go. Let's see what it's like. What are you going to do? Top of the lap.
07:27Roll it. That's it. Oh, use the power to just steady the car. Hold on. Lift my vision. That's
07:36it. You can really feel the weight transfer in this. And getting on the power really, really,
07:43does. Just steady the back end, the rear axle. Oh, it just bites down.
07:49Oh, it's such a thing. Oh, got to roll it in here. Off. Accelerate. That's it.

08:02Patient here. Get that apex. Yes. Shouldn't congratulate myself too early. I'll probably
08:08cock it up. Right. Just steady through here. Little lift. Get the nose in. Yes. Nailed that.
08:15Right. Come on. Roll this in. Yes.
08:22This thing just hooks when you get it right. It's so rewarding.
08:26Come on. Get the curb. And here comes the line.
08:30Boom. Whoa. Well, that was a more intense experience than the other two cars.
08:38You've got the added weight that you've got to manage. You've got the rear wheel drive
08:43and the added power. Wow. What a thing, though. That was good. That felt quick. Well,
08:49quick by my standards. Let's see what we got. Let's see what we got. Come on then, Sam. Give
08:55me good news. That was definitely quicker. It felt it. Sure. Yeah. Come on. 112. Oh, yes.
09:01Point two. You're alive. Oh, my God. This was the hardest work. It was also the most rewarding.
09:12And it's the quickest. It's the quickest. But you have to have your wits about you because it does
09:17want to bite your head off. Anyway, now let's launch the cars. See how quick they are from
09:2260 miles an hour and over the sunny quarter mile. Right now, I'm going to launch the Fiesta. It's
09:26supposed to be not 60 in six point five seconds. But what can I do? And start this thing off.
09:30Here we go. Not bad. A little bit of tire skip there. Come on. What are you going to do? Oh,
09:39six point forty two. Fourteen point seven nine. It's all right. Not bad.
09:52Now, let's see what the Yaris will do. Set my specialist timing gear up.
10:02Come on. Come on. Five point one to 60. Come on. What's the sunny quarter mile?
10:14Thirteen point five. Thirteen point five is all right. I'll take that. I'll take that.
10:19Right. Let's launch the M2, especially not 60 in four point five seconds. Hopefully the Michelin
10:27Cup two tires are warmed up. So this thing should hook up. Let's find out. Let's do it. Here we go.
10:34I did pretty well there. Not 60. Four point one four. What's the quarter mile?
10:39Twelve point one seven seconds. That is not bad. This thing hooks up really well when the tires
10:49are warm. So what's my verdict? Well, my verdict is that all these cars are immensely good. I think
10:56the sweet spot is the Yaris. I don't know. Keep on going on about the GR Yaris being so cool,
11:00but it really is. It gives you great performance, lots of feel. You've got front wheel drive,
11:04amazing car. But this is incredible and so much fun as well. And if I did have the money,
11:10yes, I would like to be able to buy this. And if you haven't got so much money, Fiesta,
11:14don't get that edition version. Get the normal Fiesta ST. You will have a lot of fun on the road.
11:19So if you're going to do a lot of track work, you may want to think about upgrading the brakes.
