00:00Have you been struggling to sleep for the past few days and wondering if you're going crazy
00:06or insane? Well stay till the end because this video is just for you. So first and foremost let's
00:13understand the difference between sleep disruption and insomnia. We all experience sleep disruption
00:18at some point in our life. Sometimes it is like because we need to wake up early to catch a flight
00:26to travel or sometimes we wake up in the middle of the night to take care of our child, our parents
00:32or sometimes just to use the restroom. And then when we start attaching too much of negative
00:40meaning to these kind of sleep disruptions and start wondering oh my god I got only six hours
00:45of sleep. Is this all right? I keep waking up you know twice every day. Am I struggling with some
00:52other problem? And that is where insomnia starts. When you start creating a psychological fear
01:00with being awake or just getting up once or twice in the middle of the night. The thing is we all
01:06wake up multiple times during the night and we are just you know unaware of it because it's for
01:11a few seconds. Our brain is probably just scanning you know is there any threat in the environment
01:17and when it realizes that you're safe in your bedroom you will go back to sleep. But when you're
01:23hyper aware about things that is where you tend to be unable to sleep and insomnia goes on. So I'm
01:30gonna give you a couple of tips you know if you feel like you're going crazy or insane because
01:37you're unable to sleep. First thing is get rid of all the clocks in your bedroom and this includes
01:45even your mobile phone. Have a you know like a very old school alarm clock if you need one to
01:51wake up in the morning. Sometimes when you wake up in the middle of the night and you check the time
01:56that adds more anxiety. Oh my god I have only five hours left. Oh my god I have only three hours left.
02:01That tends to add more anxiety. You can keep an alarm so that you can make sure that you are awake
02:08at the required time so that you can go to school or work and not be affected by it. That's the
02:14first thing. Second get rid of all the sleep trackers be it your phone any wearable trackers
02:21get rid of all of them. It adds to more anxiety especially if you're already worried about sleep.
02:29First thing none of the wearable trackers are as accurate as the ones you would have in a sleep
02:35lab. You know when you go and get a sleep study done they have very accurate instruments. Those
02:40are the only ones which you can you know like trust. None of the other things are as accurate
02:46and when you are you know looking at an inaccurate reading that adds more fuel to the fire. So that's
02:53the second tip. The third one which I would suggest is stop reading about sleep. Stop reading about
03:01the importance of sleep. Stop googling about symptoms of insomnia. Stop you know like going
03:07on and on. It is okay. Yes it is important to get sufficient sleep but over emphasizing on it
03:14is what is going to keep the problem going on. In this day and age it is you know we have an
03:21abundance of information and misinformation which causes more harm than good. In three clicks
03:30on google you could go from a harmless issue to being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
03:37A lot of people you know worry if they have like you know a fatal insomnia or some other very
03:44rare condition and you know of course the only way to prove that out is through a
03:50thorough examination by a doctor. But those illnesses are very rare and it is very difficult
03:56to you know like get them after a day or two of sleep deprivation. So if you have been you know
04:04like struggling with sleep and being more worried about it I'm going to ask you to start living your
04:11life as usual. Go about your day be it working out, be it work, be it studying, be it spending time with
04:20your family. Do as much as you can without you know like pushing or punishing yourself too much
04:25and once you remove the pressure upon yourself to get the perfect sleep then sleep will happen
04:33naturally. It is important to you know like pay attention to sleep but again not too much.
04:38I always prefer calling sleep as this effortless effort. So I hope this video was helpful for you.
04:45Do try this out and let me know how it goes.
