00:00We're going to have a great time together, Cheryl.
00:04He's confident.
00:12Well, now that you know what they sound like, are you ready to take it to the next step?
00:15I think I am.
00:16Do you have your questions set?
00:17Sure do.
00:18All right, let's take a seat and make yourself comfortable.
00:20And here we go.
00:22It looks fun, but do not watch this alone.
00:25The Woman of the Hour tells the chilling true story of a serial killer who appeared on the dating game in 1978.
00:31And you guys, we have the stars here to tell us all about it, one of which is also the movie's bad-ass director.
00:38Please welcome Anna Kendrick and Nicolette Robinson.
00:41Thank you so much for having us.
00:43This is amazing.
00:44Are you crazy?
00:45I'm so proud of you both.
00:46But listen, Women of the Hour had its L.A. premiere on Friday.
00:51And this was your first time seeing the movie with an audience, and we got you on the red carpet.
00:55We just want to remind you what you said.
00:57Oh, God.
00:58Oh, no.
00:59I'm just really excited to see it, but I also think that I'm going to be about as nervous as I've ever been in my whole life.
01:06But I'm excited to finish the evening and have a big, stiff drink.
01:12Am I allowed to say that?
01:13What's the drink?
01:14What's the drink?
01:15What are we going for?
01:16Oh, I'll probably just go straight bourbon just to, like, take the edge off.
01:19Okay, so did you get your bourbon?
01:21Wow.
01:22I really just say stuff.
01:23I really just say stuff out loud for the whole world to hear.
01:25Wow.
01:26Wow.
01:27Incredible.
01:28Well done, Anna.
01:29How did it go?
01:30Well, I was a little hungover the next day.
01:35Just a little.
01:36Just a tiny bit.
01:37No, I had the most amazing time.
01:40And the after party afterwards was so meaningful mostly because I got to be in the same room with all these amazing people that worked so hard on the movie.
01:48But I was so nervous.
01:51Me, too.
01:52I was telling Nicolette earlier, I was like, I, like, dissociated so much that I'm not joking.
01:58This sounds like I'm doing, like, silly fun times.
02:01But when we were sitting watching the movie for, like, the whole first act of the movie, I was like, huh, is this what the movie's about?
02:07Like, I've seen the movie hundreds and hundreds of times.
02:10But I was so nervous, you know, you just leave your body.
02:13Yeah.
02:14Oh, my goodness.
02:15But you also directed the movie, and this is your first time directing.
02:18Tell us what this story is about.
02:20It would be pretty weird if I'd seen the movie hundreds of times and I was just in it.
02:24That would be really something.
02:26Sorry, sorry, I'm sorry.
02:27I love it.
02:28I love it.
02:29Why did you want to tackle this as a director?
02:30Yeah.
02:31Yeah, it's not really what you think of when you think of me.
02:34I am aware that I am mostly known for a musical comedy franchise.
02:38But this movie, it's about extreme things.
02:42And, you know, it's this true story, this awful story of a serial killer in the 1970s who, you know, really operated for over a decade without consequence.
02:54But, you know, I think as you get older, things happen in your life.
02:58And that question of who can I trust is really profound.
03:05And, you know, the fact that this man went on the dating game and there's this kind of perfect metaphor because, you know, they're behind a partition.
03:12And it really asks that question about, like, who's really behind the curtain?
03:16Who's behind the mask?
03:17You know, who can you trust?
03:19It really is kind of crazy.
03:20Now, this was kind of a heavy story.
03:22How did you and the cast find ways to just keep it light and fun on set?
03:28There's a lot of dark material.
03:30I mean, that's a funny thing.
03:32I mean, it really was despite the fact that it was a really dark story that we were dealing with.
03:38It was a really beautiful place to come to work.
03:40I mean, we had, you know, dance parties and, like, random days.
03:44I mean, that feels a little, you know, we weren't dancing all through.
03:50Murder, murder, murder, murder, murder.
03:53No, but it was Anna really set the tone.
03:56And it was just such a beautiful place to come to work.
03:58And we all loved each other.
04:00And everybody treated the material with such reverence and dignity.
04:03And then it was, like, it is also a film set.
04:06And, like, things go wrong.
04:08And I remember, like, one day a mirror broke.
04:10And I was, like, I need to just dance a little bit because if I don't, I will start crying.
04:13So, you know, those kind of things.
04:15I love that.
04:16Balance.
04:17Okay.
04:18So, you are married to our, you know, one of our celebrity crushes.
04:21Sorry.
04:22Leslie Odom Jr.
04:23Not to make it awkward.
04:24Mine too.
04:25Do you consult, like, him on stuff?
04:27And you're, like, I don't know.
04:28You kind of know about hits.
04:29Hamilton.
04:30Like, what do you think of this?
04:31You know, we've been together for a while.
04:33So, we've sort of developed a really strong shorthand.
04:36And we now can work with each other without me breaking into tears.
04:41You know?
04:42We give each other notes and we help each other.
04:45You're dangerous.
04:46But, no, now it's really, you know, warranted.
04:49It's wanted.
04:50And we work really well together now.
04:52I love that.
04:53I love that.
04:54It's so crazy.
04:55Now, I've got to talk to you about A Simple Favor 2.
04:57Because we heard you guys just wrapped.
04:59And one of the hottest men ever, Mikaela Maroney, joins the cast.
05:05I've got to know.
05:06Did Ryan Reynolds have to show up to set and remind Blake that she is a married woman?
05:10Because this man is flying.
05:11Oh, yeah.
05:12I mean, he's absolutely gorgeous, obviously.
05:15And he's so good in the movie.
05:16And just, like, the loveliest person.
05:18And, like, a real goofball.
05:21Like, he would make me do staring contests.
05:23And I actually don't know if this is.
05:26I was about to say, oh, there's this Italian phrase.
05:29But I'm like, I actually have no idea if it's, like, a phrase or if it's just what he said.
05:33But he would be like, first one to laugh is a donkey.
05:35And then I'd have to, like.
05:37And I always laughed first.
05:38Because he's, like, truly so fun and so goofy.
05:40And a very attractive man.
05:42So, it's hot and funny.
05:43Justin, we hate that.
05:45We hate that.
05:46Okay, before we go, blink twice if you're going to direct Pitch Perfect 4.
05:50Oh, my God.
05:52I will keep my eyes wide open and say that when you have known people for that long, they have no interest in you being in charge of anything.
06:00Believe me.
06:01They have seen me at.
06:03I mean, you know, that first movie, we were doing dollar shots in whatever local dive bar this is.
06:09So, there's no way that they would take any direction from me.
06:13And I love that.
06:14I love it.
06:15I love it.
06:16Ladies, thank you so much for stopping by.
06:17And make sure you watch Woman of the Hour.
06:19It premieres this Friday on Netflix.
06:21It's going to be huge, you guys.
