00:00Good morning.
00:01It's really nice to see all of you again,
00:03although I actually can't see you, so that's funny.
00:06I hope you enjoyed last night, because it
00:08was about damn time, right?
00:11I just want to say, Ellie did an amazing interview.
00:20So we have a jam-packed day for you.
00:22And as many of you know, we've been gathering here
00:25as a community for 25 years.
00:28And it just gets better.
00:30So thank you all for being part of NPW.
00:34And Ellie?
00:36So we have a big, bold mission here at NPW,
00:39to share ideas and form new bonds in order
00:42to have a positive impact on both the business world
00:45and society more broadly.
00:48Our hope is that the community that you build here
00:50in this room and beyond can help you form an invaluable tool
00:55set as you, as leaders, navigate the new and evolving
01:00disruptions that you are coming up against,
01:02whether it be advancements in AI, geopolitics,
01:06changing consumer trends, or the pushback on DEI.
01:11Now, I think we all can agree that we're
01:13on the cusp of a historical milestone.
01:17In a few short weeks, and I mean a few,
01:21we could possibly have the first US female president.
01:26And regardless of your politics, we can all
01:32agree that is a major milestone.
01:37As many of you know, and I hope you've read it,
01:39Fortune released its annual list of 100 Most Powerful Women
01:43in Business two weeks ago.
01:45Now, the list ranks the 100 most powerful women globally.
01:48And this year, it features women from six continents,
01:5219 countries and territories, and 14 industries.
01:57And it highlights that success in business
02:00defies formulas, with each path to the top
02:02being just as unique as the woman who blazes it.
02:05And we're really excited to have some
02:07of the women from this year's list
02:08with us at the summit over the next few days.
02:12And tonight at the dinner, we're going
02:14to hear more about the list from our Fortune editor
02:17and chief, Alison Chantel, who will be talking us
02:19through who's on it and how they got there.
02:21And we'll discuss how we're going
02:23to get more women to the top of the business world
02:25and on that list.
02:27Now, I think the question for all of us in this room
02:29is, how are we going to leverage our power?
02:32Because if you're in this room, by definition, you have power.
02:35And the question is, how are you going to leverage that power,
02:38not just for yourselves, but also for the generations that
02:41are coming up?
02:42So engage, share, connect.
02:45Your goal over these next few days is pretty simple.
02:48Find your friends, meet new ones,
02:51and think about how you're going to use your power
02:54and leverage it for collective good.
02:57Now, before we get started on today's session,
03:00we'd like to thank our partners for helping us make
03:03Most Powerful Woman possible.
03:06Our premier partners, Deloitte, Fidelity Investments,

03:34And again, Michal mentioned this last night,
03:36but a friendly but important reminder
03:38about what is on the record and what is off the record.
03:41So what is said here on the main stage at any point
03:44or during the breakout sessions is on the record.
03:48But what's said over a break, on a beach walk,
03:50is off the record.
03:52It's private, unless agreed otherwise
03:54by all parties involved.
03:57And for the on the record sessions,
03:58we're going to be talking about how
04:00And for the on the record sessions,
04:02please feel free to post on social media.
04:03And if you do, our handle is at fortunempw,
04:07and the hashtag is fortunempw.
04:10And Michal said last night, and I will reiterate,
04:12that we really do want to hear from you all
04:14during the sessions.
04:15The majority of main stage conversations
04:17will have the opportunity for Q&A,
04:19so please do take advantage of that.
04:22Raise your hand, we'll get a mic handler to you.
04:24This is an amazing opportunity to ask
04:25questions of these brilliant women on our agenda.
04:28So Mariam is going to take over now to kick off one
04:30of our favorite parts of the summit, which I'm sure you
04:33all know about or have heard about.
04:35She'll explain what's to come, and I'll be back in a minute.
04:39OK, so we're ready for the big get to know you.
04:42This, as all of you must now know, is a fortune tradition.
04:47This is where all of you are going
04:49to get to introduce yourselves, and you're
04:51going to find out who's in the room with you.
04:53We're going to go around the room in sections.
04:56There's going to be a panel of women,
04:58There's going to be a microphone in each section,
05:00and it'll be handed to you, and then you will pass it
05:02on to the next person.
05:03When you get the microphone, please stand.
05:06Say your name, your title, and your company only.
05:13I know it's a challenge.
05:14You get three seconds, and I'm like the Oscars.
05:16I'll be pushing you along if you don't.
05:19OK, so please pass the mic to the person.

12:21Good morning.
12:22You notice how Miriam and I match.
12:25That was totally unplanned.
12:27One of the greatest gifts that we all get at Fortune
12:30is the opportunity to meet extraordinary women,
12:34as you know.
12:35And yesterday, a few of us from the Fortune community
12:37got to meet another group of extraordinary women
12:40that I'm going to tell you about.
12:41These are 18 military veterans.
12:44They're part of the NPW future leaders
12:47from the Foundation for Women Warriors.
12:50They've served in every branch of the military,
12:53and they are transitioning to post-military careers.
12:57So we were part of the Fortune notebook mentoring
13:01session with them yesterday, and I have to tell you,
13:04they were incredible.
13:05They're amazing.
13:06They're inspiring, and you're going
13:08to meet them in just a moment.
13:10On behalf of Heidrick and Struggles,
13:12we are honored to support them in their career path,
13:16their journey to transition from military to a civilian life,
13:20by underwriting a day of training and career planning
13:24that's going to be happening today,
13:26concurrent with our sessions.
13:28And I'm particularly delighted that one of our partners, Dr.
13:32Karen West, is going to be helping to lead those sessions.
13:35And Karen is here.
13:36I'd like, Karen, would you introduce yourself?
13:40Or I can introduce you.
13:43You can project.
13:44Yeah, I can project.
13:45I was in the Navy, yes.
13:46I can project.
13:48I was a lieutenant commander aerospace psychologist
13:50in the Navy for about 10 years.
13:52You've already heard my titles.
13:54Anyways, thank you, Bonnie.
13:55I'm looking forward to seeing you guys.
13:59Thank you for your service, Karen.
14:01And now it is my great honor to introduce you
14:05to these extraordinary, exceptional women,
14:09who are part of the NPW Future Leaders
14:11program from the Foundation for Women Warriors.
14:14Please join me in thanking them for their service.
14:18The Women Veterans League cohort has
14:20The Women Veterans League cohort has been transformative in my life, and in getting
14:49to know these amazing, diverse women, and getting to know their story, and learning
14:53together.
14:54Just meeting this amazing group of like-minded female veterans who've already transitioned
14:59or going through the transition, and listening to their wisdom and advice and thoughts on
15:05the process has really been insightful and inspiring as well.
15:09Being a part of the Women Veterans League program has expanded my Women Veterans support
15:16system.
15:17The most valuable lesson I learned with this is that I deserve to be here in this group
15:22and with any other opportunity that comes my way.
15:25Being able to market myself a little better, being able to work on my resume, and just
15:30network.
15:31How to prioritize myself and my self-care while finding balance between my home and
15:38work life.
15:39This program has helped me find kindred spirits and reconnect with myself.
15:44I found support and direction in a time of great uncertainty.
15:48It has been really fun to connect with the ladies over imposter syndrome.
15:54And it's good to find out that I'm not alone in suffering this.
15:58It is so comforting to know that other women have had these feelings, they've had these
16:03experiences, and they've gone on to excel in their post-military careers.
16:08Being surrounded by other women veterans who have accomplished so much has been a great
16:13reminder of my own capabilities.
16:15If I had some advice for any woman who was considering a professional development program
16:19such as this, my advice is pretty simple and it is do not wait.
16:24Get to know people who are different than you and make a difference together.
16:28Be open, be flexible, and be willing to put yourself out there.
16:33Do what scares you.
16:34Be open to meeting new people and feel inspired, feel motivated by learning from them.
16:43Do you want to be in a picture with them?
16:45I'm sorry, do you want to be in a picture with them?

19:21for your contributions to and support to the Future Leaders Program.
19:25I was also in the mentoring session yesterday and was blown away.
19:28It was so impressive, both in terms of the mentees and the mentors,
19:31the level of engagement and generosity and sharing experience.
