00:20Nigeria Customs Service in a news release on Wednesday, said, one of the suspected smugglers
00:27was arrested during the operations.
00:30The statement reads thus, The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Operation Whirlwind has recorded
00:36significant success in its fight against fuel smuggling, seized two lorries, 1,046 kgs filled
00:44with premium motor spirit, PMS and 12 drums of petroleum products.
00:50In a press conference held on Wednesday, the 9th of October 2024, in Yola, the Adamawa
00:57State Capital, the Comptroller General of Customs, CJC Adewale Adeni, represented by
01:04the Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, DCG Aliyo Alajogun, in charge of enforcement,
01:10investigation and inspection, announced that since the operation's launch on the 10th of
01:15June 2024, efforts have intensified, yielding further results across multiple border regions.
01:23He said, Our ongoing operations have recorded substantial seashores in various locations,
01:29including the northwest borders in the Sokoto-Kebe Axis, the southwest borders around the Semi-Badangri
01:35and Idiruku Axis, and the southern borders in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
01:41I am pleased to announce that in this latest phase of Operation Whirlwind, we have seized
01:46two lorries carrying smuggled petroleum products, 1,046 kgs filled with PMS and 12 drums of
01:54petroleum products.
01:56Additionally, one suspect has been apprehended in connection with these smuggling activities,
02:02he noted.
02:03According to him, the seashores underscore the persistent nature of the challenge and
02:08the necessity of continued vigilance and action.
02:12The Customs Chief warned those engaged in illicit activities, stating that, the full
02:18force of the law will be brought to bear on anyone caught smuggling our nation's resources.
02:24He called on all Nigerians, particularly residents of Adamawa and other border states, to support
02:30the operation.
02:32Your vigilance and cooperation are crucial in our collective efforts to safeguard our
02:36nation's resources and ensure that the benefits of full price deregulation are fully realized
02:42by all Nigerians.
02:44He also announced the immediate auction of the seized products at two petroleum stations
02:49in Yola, at the rate of 630 Naira per litre.
02:54In the same vein, the National Coordinator in charge of the operations, Comptroller Hussein
02:59Ejimudu also emphasized the negative consequences of aiding smugglers to execute their illegal
03:05activities.
03:06Comptroller Idris seeks enhanced collaboration with security agencies in Katsina.
03:12The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has called for stronger cooperation among security agencies
03:19in Katsina State to tackle cross-border crimes and internal security threats.
03:24This appeal was met by Comptroller Aba Aji Idris, the Customs Area Comptroller of the
03:30Katsina Command, during courtesy visits to various security agencies in the stealth on
03:35Thursday, October 10, 2024.
03:39While visiting the Air Force Base, Comptroller Idris stressed the importance of intelligence-sharing
03:45and joint operations among all security agencies to combat trans-border crimes.
03:51He noted that such collaboration would enhance national security, promote unity, and eliminate
03:57rivalry among security outfits in the state.
04:01He also acknowledged the long-standing partnership between the NCS and the Nigerian Air Force
04:06in areas such as border management and capacity building.
04:11In response, Air Commander Gaba Ibrahim Jivya reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force's commitment
04:16to working closely with the NCS to address security challenges in the state.
04:22He attributed the noticeable reduction in crime rates, particularly in frontline local
04:28government areas, to the improved synergy among security agencies.
04:34Comptroller Idris also visited the Katsina State Police Command, where he called for
04:38joint efforts to combat economic sabotage.
04:42He assured the police of the NCS's readiness to collaborate in intelligence-sharing and
04:47ensuring a peaceful environment for Nigerians.
04:51Commissioner of Police Aliyu Musa welcomed the visit, describing it as a positive step
04:56towards strengthening the existing relationship among security agencies in the state.
05:02Other security agencies visited by Comptroller Idris included the Nigerian Security and Civil
05:08Defense Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Federal Fire Service, and the
05:14Federal Road Safety Corps in Katsina.
05:17Funding agencies pledged their support for enhanced collaboration and partnership to
05:22ensure effective service delivery in the state.
