00:00Road traffic in Edsa has grown to a daily average of 421,000 autos a day, a clear sign of the yuletide season drawing close as more shoppers show up in malls in the megacity, slowing down traffic to a crawl.
00:14Thus, the MMDA sat down with mall owners or operators for adjustments of opening and closing hours to help ease congestion along the length of Edsa, where close to a third of the 100 plus malls in the megacity lie.

00:34Traffic gets heavier as the holiday season approaches.
00:39According to MMDA data on Edsa alone, 421,000 vehicles are traversing daily this September.
00:47That's higher than the 399,000 during the same period last year.
00:53The MMDA said this is already the effect of the holiday rush.
01:06During today's meeting, the MMDA and mall operators agreed to implement adjustments to mall hours across Metro Manila from November 18 to December 25.
01:18Malls will open at 11 a.m. and closing time will be left to the discretion of mall operators.
01:25There are over 100 malls in Metro Manila and 29 of them are along Edsa.
01:49Start shopping for gifts early because mall wild sales will also be prohibited.

02:17The MMDA will also coordinate with the Department of Transportation to discuss the possibility of extending the operating hours of the Edsa bus carousel, MRT, and LRT to serve mall employees and other commuters.
02:33In relation to this, mall deliveries will only be allowed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. except for perishable goods.
02:41There will also be a moratorium on excavation activities, but flagship government projects and emergency repairs will be accepted.
02:50MMDA traffic personnel will have extended duty until midnight, and minor traffic violations will be handled on a case-to-case basis.
