00:00The Jets today acquire what is still, I think, one of the better wide receivers in football.
00:09I don't think we would label Devontae Adams one of the five best, I think those days have
00:14passed by.
00:15One of the 12 best, though, feels like he would fit inside that category.
00:20I'm not sure he's the best receiver on his brand new team, as Devontae Adams is officially
00:26a New York Jet today after a trade that'll send a conditional third-round pick to the
00:36Las Vegas Raiders.
00:39There are a few conditions that could turn that into a second-round pick.
00:42If those end up coming true, then it'll be more than worth it for the Jets.
00:51If you get an all-pro out of Devontae Adams, or if he's on the AFC title game or a potential
00:56Super Bowl roster, then everything would convey.
01:01But again, a second-round pick was kind of always the expectation here.
01:08I do think there's a conversation to be had about the rest of the league not beating that
01:15offer.
01:17I do not know if the Jets taking on all of the money plus the draft compensation allowed
01:27them to win out.
01:30I don't know if Devontae Adams had NBA-level power in choosing his landing spot.
01:38If he did, then again, the mystery of this is pretty open and shut.
01:45But the question for the New York Jets, who are now 2-4, losers of three in a row, and
01:55making a move like this, the questions are, is it going to work?
02:02And the expectations for the Jets have shifted pretty quickly.
02:07Yes, they would still love to make the playoffs and go on a deep run.
02:13And I'm sure in that building, they believe they can, and it's why you make a move like
02:17this.
02:18But the expectations from the books, well, this is now a team with the updated news that
02:25Devontae Adams will be on this team with a 7.5 win total, minus 162 to the over.
02:36If you get over it, though, by one win, you're still a sub-500 football team.
02:43Jets are around plus 138 to make the playoffs.
02:47While that number is not monster, it doesn't mean that they are knocked out and done.
02:54There are more than seven teams with better odds to make the playoffs in the AFC at this
03:01point in time, which of course means the Jets would be left out of the dance.
03:08And if you are the Jets, and this doesn't work, and again, they have shifted the expectations
03:18due to this awful start, that now working will be making the playoffs.
03:25They get to the playoffs, they can sit here and say it worked to whatever degree they'd
03:30like.
03:31But if it doesn't work, what does next year look like?
03:37If you don't make the playoffs, there's no way Ulbricht is keeping that job.
03:42If you don't make the playoffs, is Aaron Rodgers coming back?
03:48Or is Rodgers walking away?
03:52If you don't make the playoffs and Rodgers walks away, is Devontae Adams walking away?
04:00If you don't make the playoffs, are you rebuilding?
04:05Or are you pushing all-in again for a veteran quarterback?
04:09Are you drafting a quarterback?
04:12Are you a trade-up candidate to get in the mix for Shador Sanders or Jalen Milrow or
04:20Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers?
04:24Is that where we are right now?
04:26Or is that where we will be with the New York Jets if this does not work?
