Transcript
00:00Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Answer to Six Newspapers. Lovely to speak
00:07again to Brooke Dorn, who is based in Worthing, who is studying in Brighton. And Brooke, you've
00:12got a fabulously exciting adventure coming up, haven't you? You're going to be playing
00:17in the Royal Albert Hall on November 6, in a massive competition, the big finals. Well,
00:25you've been inside the Albert Hall, haven't you?
00:27I have.
00:29What did you make of it?
00:31It is amazing, truly an inspiring place, knowing how many people have performed there, some
00:38of my absolute idols. Slightly intimidating, but just very, very exciting.
00:44Absolutely. And to get to this point, you had to do an audition at the Royal Albert
00:49Hall, didn't you? Tell me what happened at that audition.
00:52Yes, the audition was amazing. I got to play Elton John's Red Piano, which was...
01:00That's a pretty cool thing to be able to say, isn't it?
01:02Yeah, it's really, really amazing. And the audition went great. Very good sounding piano,
01:09might I add.
01:10Well, it should be, shouldn't it?
01:12Yeah, amazing sound system there as well. The sound crew that helped me in the audition
01:18were very, very professional. And yeah, it went amazing.
01:23But you didn't know at the time, let's add, you didn't know at the time it was Elton John's
01:27piano.
01:28No, I didn't.
01:29Do you wish you had known at the time?
01:30I didn't. I think so. I think I would have taken in the moment a bit more and known.
01:36Maybe it would have scared me. Maybe it was good that I was told after, to not be too
01:41intimidated by the Red Piano.
01:43They're not going to give you that Red Piano again for the final?
01:49I'm not entirely sure. I did get to play it again, though, for a promotion video that
01:54we made for TikTok, where I actually sang your song by Elton John. And we have a little
02:01video that is soon to be posted, a little sneak peek for you there.
02:05How fantastic.
02:06Yeah, so I did get to play it again after I knew. So really took in the moment that
02:11time.
02:12Oh, so you should. And for the final, you're doing one of your own songs, aren't you?
02:18Yes, it's my original song called Like Myself.
02:22And it was an important moment when you wrote that, or navigating an important moment, isn't
02:27it? What was happening?
02:30I wrote this song about a year ago, around this time. It was when I was first starting
02:36college and kind of finding myself and finding my confidence going to music college and kind
02:45of getting used to my surroundings and the very lively environment of having to perform
02:50most days and sing to strangers, which is actually something I've been doing since I
02:56was quite young. But it's kind of a new environment doing around people your age who you are also
03:01making relationships, friendships with. And the song's kind of just about finding myself
03:07and kind of anchoring my personality and my beliefs, etc. And yeah, I think it was quite
03:17a helpful song in the end.
03:19Absolutely. And it also sounds like you're going into this final with absolutely the
03:22right approach, the fantastic if you win, but even if you don't win, my goodness, you
03:27played at the Royal Albert Hall.
03:30Yeah, definitely. That's what it's all about. Just knowing that I've been on that stage
03:34and at the end of the day, it's kind of all that matters.
03:38Absolutely. Well, good luck. And let's speak after the event, if it goes brilliantly.
03:43Great to speak to you too. Thank you. Bye-bye.
