00:00I kind of pushed the script away.
00:02I thought, I don't like this woman.
00:04You told the police that you'd never met my son.
00:13But you had.
00:19It's a really narratively and emotionally important scene
00:23because that's the one time where Nancy gets to observe Catherine.
00:28That two-shot between Kate and Leslie
00:30is my favorite part of the whole show.
00:33There's a rawness to it, that scene.
00:35Especially because for Nancy,
00:37she's got absolutely nothing to lose.
00:40If you want to do the decent thing,
00:42you better speak up now
00:44because this is probably the last chance you'll have.
00:47I like to think I'm a very open person
00:49and I don't need to like my own character.
00:52But when I read the scene,
00:54I kind of pushed the script away.
00:56I thought, I really don't like this woman.
00:58It's actually very, very complicated.
01:00Complicated? Complicated?
01:02No, no, no, no. No, it's not complicated.
01:04That scene becomes this glorious tennis match.
01:08Two very different mothers with a very different agenda.
01:12But both mothers.
01:13Your son is running around above ground
01:15while mine lies rotting beneath.
01:17There's so much about these two characters
01:20that we just understood.
01:22Don't you find it exhausting pretending to be someone you're not?
01:25And I'm sure it'll be interesting for the audience
01:27because they might think,
01:29where are we going to go from here?
