00:00So I wanted to share some thoughts with you guys about this phone before Apple's marketing hit too hard.
00:07The iPhone 11 was one of the most heavily leaked phones we saw in 2019.
00:12We knew everything about this phone, like, by the middle of the summer.
00:14We knew there was going to be three phones.
00:16A normal one, a big one, a cheaper one, same screen, same form factor as last year's and the year before that,
00:22lightning port, and each phone now has an extra camera lens.
00:27The truth is, though, that all this talk about hardware is almost irrelevant to the conversation.
00:32We know that it's going to be an iterative change or an iterative update for the iPhones this year,
00:36and it's going to be pushed and marketed quite heavily by Apple.
00:39And over the next week or two, we're going to see a lot of videos on YouTube that talk about how you shouldn't buy the iPhone 11.
00:45But the hardware is not bad. It's actually good.
00:47Like, objectively speaking, it's a great iPhone.
00:50But because of where the iPhone 11s sit in terms of Apple's product cycle and how they launch things,
00:55it just feels like they're selling a product, pushing a product that shouldn't be sold.
00:59It really is like a placeholder for next year's iPhones.
01:03See, the iPhone X from two years ago was a really good phone.
01:06It was an expensive phone, it was one of the first phones to break $1,000,
01:09but people recognized it as being a really solid phone from Apple.
01:13The XS felt like an iterative change with just a camera upgrade,
01:16so the iPhone 11 with now a two-year-old body feels even more so.
01:21The 2020 iPhones, the ones coming out next year, are going to be a very big shift in hardware.
01:28It's supposed to be new form factors, including an even smaller one,
01:31new screens, in-display Touch ID, USB-C charging, and a supposed 5G option.
01:36It's going to be the iPhone upgrade that everyone wants,
01:39and it's honestly the upgrade that people deserve in 2019.
01:42Unfortunately, we're not getting it in 2019. We're getting it next year.
01:45The other thing is Apple's software.
01:47One of Apple's greatest strengths, I actually consider it to be the greatest strength
01:50in the whole Apple ecosystem, is their software.
01:53You can run their latest and greatest iOS version on much older hardware.
01:57You can run iOS 13 on the iPhone SE, a three-and-a-half-year-old phone
02:02with two gigs of RAM, and it's stable and smooth. That's Apple.
02:05That's the real value of Apple's iPhones right now,
02:08to have this cohesive and well-tuned software for the phones.
02:11But you don't need to buy it. This is free.
02:13Every single modern iPhone gets iOS 13 for free.
02:16And with Apple's iPhone battery replacement program,
02:19it really feels like a tough sell for these iPhone 11s.
02:22Now, here's the thing. If it was any other brand,
02:24if it was like Samsung, Google, or just any other phone brand,
02:28selling this iterative change like they have on the iPhone 11s
02:31would have been a marketing nightmare.
02:33It would have been, like, the toughest thing to do.
02:35But Apple is Apple. They are so good at marketing these things.
02:39They're so good at making you want things that you really shouldn't want.
02:42And these phones are going to sell.
02:44And it kills me knowing that so many people are going to be
02:46spending some serious money on these phones.
02:48So if you're an iPhone user, and I'm not saying you should switch to Android,
02:52I'm saying take a step back, look at all the moving pieces here,
02:55and think to yourself, is this a phone that you should actually purchase?
02:58And it's not about them releasing a new phone next year.
03:00There's always a new iPhone.
03:02It's a combination of how good the next year's phone will be
03:05and just how insignificant the changes are this year.
03:08Like, if you buy an iPhone 11 this year,
03:10I think you're getting bamboozled because you're going to want the iPhone 12,
03:13whatever they call it, next year.
03:15And you're going to be spending money twice.
03:17Okay. Hope you guys enjoyed this video. Thumbs if you liked it.
03:19Subs if you loved it. See you guys next time.
