00:00All right, so Razer is launching this new gaming mouse.
00:06This is the Razer Viper, and I'm shooting this four days before they actually have their
00:10announcement or launch of the product.
00:13So I'm going to open it up, do a quick kind of product profile of it, and then properly
00:16test it out and add it to the tail end of this video.
00:20I don't think that the retail box will be this.
00:23This is a pretty chintzy-looking cardboard box, but that's what we have here.
00:28I think this is just like an engineering sample.
00:30They have a picture of the international, like the Dota tournament.
00:36Clearly, it's an eSports mouse.
00:39So what makes an eSports mouse?
00:41What is an eSports mouse?
00:42Well, for one, it's used in competitive gaming, where you're trying to just outdo your opponent
00:48and potentially win $3 million like that 16-year-old kid did in Fortnite a couple days ago.
00:53Okay, this is super light.
00:56I've handled a lot of Razer mice.
00:58This thing actually feels almost like fake or like a toy.
01:02Like, it's just so much lighter than any other Razer mouse that I've used.
01:06Not that Razer's mice are super heavy, but they never really focused on weight.
01:09This is clearly, like I like light mice, and that's why the mouse that I use is like, it's
01:14a lighter mouse.
01:15This is an 80 gram, the G Pro, the G Pro Wireless from Logitech.
01:20This is 80 grams.
01:21I feel like this is, I mean, this is distinctly lighter.
01:23This is 69 grams.
01:25Is that right?
01:2669 grams.
01:27So, it's light.
01:30Now, compared to any other Razer mouse before, seriously, it almost feels like, it feels
01:35weird.
01:36Okay, another thing I'm noticing.
01:37This is an ambidextrous mouse.
01:38Right off the rip, not a lot of Razer mice are ambidextrous.
01:41They have a couple.
01:42I think the Lancehead was one of them, but this one, this is their DeathAdder.
01:46Super popular mouse.
01:48Very common amongst professional eSports guys.
01:51I mean, it's a very, it's a different look.
01:54It's a different everything.
01:55It's like, I don't think it's meant to replace the DeathAdder.
01:59It's just to sit alongside with the DeathAdder as a kind of different shape for people that
02:03don't like the DeathAdder.
02:05So other features that they're marketing on this thing, number one is the cable.
02:09It's supposed to be this, I forget what they're calling it, hyper fast cable, I'm sure.
02:14But it's made of a different material.
02:16It is, you can feel it right away.
02:18It's almost like, if I had to describe it, it's kind of like a swimsuit material, like
02:23super slick.
02:25So if you've used any kind of braided cable mouse before, if you use it long enough, what
02:29inevitably happens with every single one of them is that they fray.
02:34Like they get this, like, I don't know.
02:37And this is not, you know, this is a SteelSeries Kinzu version 2.
02:41This like fraying, I don't know if this camera's picking it up, but it is very common.
02:45You see it on basically every other cabled mouse, braided cabled mouse, if you've used
02:50it for long enough.
02:52It's just a gross, I mean, it just looks bad.
02:55But not that it affects performance, but it does get frayed.
02:58This new material is supposed to prevent that.
03:02I can't tell yet, but it does feel different, and it does feel kind of like slicker than
03:06the regular braided cable.
03:08But the main feature that this mouse has is an optical switch on both of the mouse buttons.
03:13So we've seen optical switch technology on Razer's keyboards and stuff like that, and
03:17they've implemented something similar to that in these buttons.
03:21And the idea is that by using a light sensor to detect whether the switch is activated
03:24or not, you get rid of any kind of analog latency.
03:28So in theory, this should be a very fast click, like your computer will detect it right away
03:32instead of having whatever supposed latency there is with a traditional mouse switch.
03:37Now I don't, like, I haven't been able to test this, obviously.
03:41I personally don't know how much faster these buttons can get because I've never really
03:44felt like my button click was, you know, that the latency was causing me to perform poorly
03:50in games.
03:51But maybe that's a thing.
03:52I'll have to test that out in a little bit.
03:54I'm just going to plug this up real quick because I'm curious to see what the lighting
03:57looks like.
03:58I can't see it.
04:00It's so far.
04:02Okay.
04:03Oh, lights up on the bottom.
04:09There's no lights on the top.
04:10I thought it would just, I thought there'd be a glow on the top.
04:13But that's it.
04:15You got your, your, uh, DPI selector light, but it's just this, it's just the back.
04:23Okay.
04:24How does it feel?
04:25It's kind of like, it's an ambidextrous mouse.
04:29I like those.
04:30I like the symmetrical mice.
04:31I hope I'm not just like randomly clicking stuff on my computer.
04:35I totally am.
04:36I can see the icons moving around.
04:39It feels good in terms of its shape.
04:42Right mouse buttons.
04:43The right mouse buttons are a little higher than I like.
04:45I like them lower, but it's a preference thing.
04:50Another thing I'm noticing, they have rubber on the sides of the mouse.
04:54So oftentimes when you have really light, like weight focused mice, like the final mouse
05:00and the O mouse, they have like, they just have this pure plastic shell, sometimes like
05:05a perforated skeleton of a shell to keep the weight down.
05:08And rubber is not a material that you often see in an ultra light mice, but this is nice.
05:13Yeah.
05:14It feels good.
05:15Okay.
05:16I'm going to test this thing out more thoroughly and be back with a more extensive discussion
05:20on how this thing performs in games.
05:38Okay.
05:38So I've been using the Razer Viper for three days at this point.
05:41And bottom line, I really like this mouse.
05:43I thought I would like it because everything about it is stuff that I have preference for,
05:47like the weight, the shape, the sensor, like everything's good on it.
05:52The weight is something I want to talk about a little bit further.
05:55Maybe I'm just used to a lot of heavier Razer mice.
05:58Like three days later, I'm still picking this up and it just feels unexpectedly light.
06:02It's not like the lightest mouse in the world.
06:04I'm not saying that, but it's for a Razer branded mouse, it just feels different.
06:08I think if you're a user of Razer mice, you will notice the same.
06:11But if you have preference for light mice, you'll probably like this.
06:16The shape of it, also, like I like the symmetrical look.
06:18Now, maybe it's because I grew up on ambidextrous mice, like I just have a strong preference
06:22for mice that are not shaped to one hand or the other.
06:25I like a mouse like this.
06:28One thing I was a little bit concerned about, because this is such a light mouse compared
06:31to Razer's other mice, I don't know about long-term durability.
06:35I mean, it is a lighter mouse, so there's less material in this thing, and maybe some
06:39of that material is built for structure and support.
06:41So if you drop this thing 500 times, it might not last as long as like a regular Razer mouse
06:47has been dropped 500 times as well.
06:49I can't tell, but I do like the look, feel, and shape of this mouse.
06:54In terms of gaming performance, the game that I played the most of with this mouse was Overwatch.
06:58It's still my favorite game, and I play a character called Ana who's got kind of like
07:02a sleep dart ability, so you gotta lead the shot, but you have to have decent aim with
07:06that shot, and I wouldn't say I was hitting or missing shots any better or worse than
07:10I would with my regular mouse, but I just felt really comfortable on this mouse.
07:14It's by far my favorite Razer mouse right now, mostly because of its shape and its weight,
07:18not because of its other features.
07:20So speaking of those other features, it's big thing that they're marketing right now
07:23is the optical switch they have for the two mouse buttons.
07:27The idea of it is cool.
07:28There's no debounce delay, it uses lasers and stuff, and the lifetime durability of
07:33those switches is supposed to be a lot longer than a regular analog switch, but I didn't
07:37notice that much of a difference in gameplay and in just like reaction tests that I just
07:41did on a website.
07:42I ran the test over and over between two different mice to switch between the Lancehead and the
07:47Viper, and the Lancehead and the Viper just back and forth, back and forth for like 20
07:51minutes, and there was no real difference between the two.
07:54Now it could just be me, the user, or the internet connection, but whatever the reason,
07:57I really couldn't distinguish between the two in terms of how quick the mouse click
08:01latency was.
08:03The sensor uses the standard Razer high-end sensor, the 5G optical.
08:07Great sensor, well-reviewed, there's nothing really to complain about that sensor.
08:11It's based off the PMW3389, and I think most people will really like this sensor.
08:16The cable uses that Speedflex cable, not the Hyper whatever I thought it was earlier.
08:22It's a cool technology, the idea of it is neat, but again, I'm not noticing much of
08:26a difference between this cable and even like a regular braided cable.
08:31I think that's just, I don't want to use the term gimmick, but it's a gimmick, I think.
08:36I don't think it hurts, right, having a smoother material can't hurt the mouse, but I don't
08:40think it really provides that much for the average gamer.
08:44Maybe in that like one scenario where you're just trying to do a flick shot and it drags
08:47a little bit, it might, maybe, but I think for most people, the cable is not going to
08:52be a thing that makes or breaks your gaming.
08:54They also have some other features, like you have some programmable buttons, and you
08:57can control the lighting in Razer software, but the main kind of feature of this mouse
09:02to me, and I think for most people looking at this thing, is its weight, and I think
09:06Razer did a great job with it.
09:08Razer has not had a light mouse that's great for like FPS shooters with a good sensor and
09:14good like overall package for a really long time, I think the last one they had was I
09:19think like 2013 or something like that, not a great sensor.
09:22This is a really good mouse, and it's something that FPS competitive gamers really like, like
09:28a lightweight, high quality sensor mouse, and this is it.
09:31Now if you're someone who didn't like Razer's DeathOuter shape, and you want something lightweight,
09:35I think this is a good fit.
09:36It is not cheap though, it's 80 bucks, like not that it's super expensive, but there are
09:40a lot of other mice out there that are similar in performance that are cheaper, but if you
09:45like the whole Razer brand and you want to do the whole Razer thing, this is a good option.
09:50So just keep in mind, the lightweight nature of this mouse is really where it's at.
09:55All the other stuff, like the optical switches, the HyperFlex cable, SpeedFlex cable, I'll
10:00get that name right one day, but the SpeedFlex cable, it's all gravy, it's just the weight
10:05is what they nailed.
10:06Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video, thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it, see
10:09you guys next time.
