03:19All right, here we go, starting with level 2.
03:21At this point, there is no scratches.
03:23Level 3, so far so good.
03:25Level 4, same thing.
03:27And at level 5, at first I thought there was nothing,
03:29but upon closer inspection, I did see some very fine scratch marks.
03:31Level 6 shows more visible scratches
03:33and, say it with me,
03:35deeper grooves at a level 7.
03:37Here, you can really start to see the scratches show much more.
03:39And at level 8,
03:41I can literally feel the pick dig into the glass.
03:43And at level 9,
03:45well, it is total destruction.
03:47I can see shards of glass piercing out of the screen protector
03:49and literally flying across the room.
03:51But in all seriousness,
03:53level 9 is an instant kill.
03:55I'm really thinking about how that $100 screen protector
03:57will do against this.
03:59On to screen protector number 2.
04:01This is the $6 screen protector from a company called JTEC.
04:03Not as cool of a name as the last one.
04:05But, immediately we see this is an upgrade.
04:07We get more included in the box.
04:09A squeegee, which is used to help push out air bubbles.
04:11We also get 3 sets of cleaning floss
04:13and I'm glad to see there's also cleaning wipes.
04:15But not as glad as I am to see
04:17this super handy installation frame.
04:19And then finally, we get the 3 screen protectors
04:21with some tips on how to remove bubbles,
04:23as well as a proper installation guide with photos and all.
04:25And this here is really nice to see.
04:27I'll definitely be using this as I install the screen protector.
04:29Starting with the wet wipe, which is still wet.
04:31I have had some screen protectors where the wet wipe
04:33has dried out. Not very useful.
04:35The wet wipe is crucial for removing any adhesion
04:37from the last screen protector,
04:39as well as any stubborn fingerprints.
04:41And I follow this up with the cleaning cloth to dry.
04:43I would rate the previous cleaning cloth as 1 ply,
04:45where this cloth by comparison is a proper 3 ply.
04:47It is much better and does a much better job
04:49at cleaning your phone.
04:51And I think the fact that one is see-through
04:53and one is not also tells the story.
04:55I then use the dust sticker for the final touches
04:57and now we can apply the frame,
04:59remove the adhesion and drop the screen protector
05:01into place. Super easy.
05:03I really like how the frame instantly and perfectly
05:05aligns the screen protector.
05:07You can see we have a couple of bubbles,
05:09but this is where that squeegee comes in.
05:11And this tool makes pushing out bubbles so much easier.
05:13And just like that, we have what I would call
05:15an excellent installation.
05:17Now, this install took around 3 minutes and 20 seconds,
05:19which is a third of the time of the previous one.
05:21This screen protector too passes the case test
05:23with flying colours and I noticed that the edges
05:25on the $6 screen protector are smoother
05:27than on the $1 one.
05:29This means that the screen protector doesn't
05:31latch or get stuck by the edges,
05:33making the screen protector nicer to use and feel.
05:35Speaking of feel, this screen protector is also
05:37smoother to the touch than the first one
05:39and also does a better job at deflecting fingerprints.
05:41There are still some, but not as much
05:43and they are much easier to wipe off.
05:45And all of this is thanks to a much better
05:47oleophobic coating on the screen protector,
05:49which makes it feel much more like the iPhone's
05:51normal display.
05:53On to the scratch test, this time we'll start at a level 5.
05:55Again, at first I thought there were no marks,
05:57but upon further inspection, I found some very fine marks
05:59at level 5. Level 6, we can slightly see
06:01these more too and at level 7,
06:03the scratches are getting serious and highly visible.
06:05Now for this screen protector, I won't go beyond
06:07the level 7 to spare my hands the shards
06:09of glass, but the scratch resistance of the $6
06:11screen protector is identical to that
06:13of the $1 screen protector.
06:15Next, from the same company, we have the $8
06:17privacy screen protector. Now personally,
06:19I've never used a privacy screen protector before,
06:21but I do see them around.
06:23Like with the last one, also from JTEC,
06:25we have everything we need in the box, including
06:27that insulation frame and squeegee.
06:29Though this time, there's two screen protectors instead of three.
06:31The application process is pretty much the same.
06:33Clean the phone, place the frame, and apply
06:35the screen protector. One thing I thought was funny
06:37was when applying the screen protector, when looking
06:39at it from the side, I could not see the bubbles
06:41underneath. These were hidden until I looked
06:43at the phone head-on. I guess the privacy
06:45element is working. Once again,
06:47overall, a smooth and easy installation process
06:49just like the previous screen protector.
06:51And check out how cool this privacy feature
06:53is. Look at your phone normally and the
06:55display is visible. Then turn it to the side
06:57and it completely disappears.
06:59I can see this being very useful, say, in public,
07:01like on a train or on a plane, where you don't
07:03want others to see what you're doing
07:05on your phone. Interestingly, I did find
07:07that the privacy feature only works from looking
07:09at the left or right side of the phone,
07:11not when looking at above or below.
07:13Looking at the selfie camera, we can see that this part
07:15does not have the privacy element, so that the picture
07:17on the front camera stays clear. And I also
07:19tested Face ID, which too remains and works
07:21like normal. Now, the only downside
07:23of using a privacy screen protector like this
07:25is the darkening of the display, which,
07:27as you can see, does impact your phone's
07:29brightness. This means that during normal use,
07:31particularly when outdoors, your iPhone's display
07:33won't be as bright. See here,
07:35side by side, how the privacy screen protector
07:37compares to the previous normal clear screen
07:39protector. This screen protector also passes
07:41the case test with ease and the edges feel
07:43less sharp than on the $1 screen
07:45protector, but still not as smooth as on the
07:47previous $6 screen protector. I would say
07:49it's somewhere in between. Now, onto the
07:51scratch test. Like with all screen protectors so far,
07:53the story with the privacy screen protector is
07:55very similar. We see light scratching at a
07:57level 5, slightly more at level 6
07:59and then proper deep scratches at level
08:017. Now, just before we move on to the next
08:03screen protector, I took off the privacy screen
08:05protector and placed it to cover half of my iPhone's
08:07display to show you the difference in brightness.
08:09Something to bear in mind if you choose to go
08:11with a privacy screen protector like this.
08:13From one unusual screen protector,
08:15we go to another, a matte screen protector.
08:17Now, this one is from a company called Matcha
08:19and comes in at $10 and
08:21only comes with one included. In the box,
08:23we get everything we need including a frame,
08:25even a squeegee and of course the screen protector.
08:27The application process is very familiar.
08:29In fact, let's fast forward through that.
08:31Ok, here we go. And wow, this matte texture
08:33has such a smooth and unique feel.
08:35It feels kind of like satin. Scrolling
08:37and swiping is all just so satisfying.
08:39Anyway, in terms of fingerprints, the
08:41matte screen protector does a great job at
08:43hiding these and the ones that do show wipe
08:45off very easily. And here you can see
08:47side by side, I compared the matte screen protector
08:49to a normal screen protector and you can see
08:51how the matte screen protector does a great job
08:53at dispersing reflections.
08:55For example, if you're outdoors or even indoors,
08:57say with ceiling lights, this screen protector
08:59does a much better job at hiding reflections
09:01and this is a big advantage for this matte
09:03screen protector. The dynamic island
09:05does stand out a little bit more on the screen protector
09:07since that part does not have the matte
09:09finish and I can also confirm that both
09:11the selfie camera as well as face ID work
09:13as normal. Taking a closer look however
09:15at the display, I did notice that things are
09:17a little bit less sharp and colors appear
09:19a bit less vibrant with this screen protector
09:21on. And I believe this is due to the
09:23matte textured coating on this screen protector.
09:25Now this is hard to capture on video but
09:27is more visible in real life. I wouldn't
09:29consider this to be a deal breaker necessarily
09:31but just like on the previous privacy screen
09:33protector, there is a sacrifice here
09:35that you should know about before buying.
09:37Alright, with that said, it is scratch test time
09:39and this time is different. Because of how
09:41unique this screen protector is, I will start with
09:43a level 2, which looks good. Level 3,
09:45again good. And level 4,
09:47wow, we have serious marks.
09:49Interestingly, all other screen protectors showed
09:51no scratches at a level 4 and only
09:53started to show fine marks at a level 5.
09:55So it seems the matte screen protector
09:57is much more prone to scratching.
09:59Or so I thought. Then out of
10:01curiosity, I tested the level 7
10:03pick. And look at that,
10:05no scratches. I try again
10:07and see only really fine marks.
10:09So why were there so many visible marks at
10:11level 4? Well, I then had the idea
10:13to try wipe away the level 4 marks
10:15with my cleaning cloth. And check it out,
10:17they completely wipe away.
10:19Then just for fun, I try a level 6 with no
10:21visible marks. Then again, the level 7 for good
10:23measure. And then at level 8, the marks
10:25are more visible and deeper.
10:27And level 9 is like drawing on my screen.
10:29So why did the level 4
10:31marks go away? Well, here's my theory.
10:33The marks from level 4 were not from
10:35the pick scratching the screen protector, but
10:37instead from the screen protector damaging
10:39the pick. I think the matte,
10:41more gritty texture of this matte screen protector
10:43actually managed to wear down my
10:45level 4 pick, leaving what first appeared
10:47to be scratch marks. But what do you
10:49think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
10:51And this brings us to the one that we've been waiting for,
10:53the near $100 screen protector
10:55from Shelress. Exact prices vary
10:57depending on your iPhone model. This particular
10:59one for the regular iPhone 15 costs
11:01$78. Shelress was kind
11:03enough to send the screen protector for this video,
11:05but I will hold nothing back and test it in the
11:07exact same way I did the others.
11:09In fact, I don't even think I told them that I'll be
11:11using the most test kit. Anyway,
11:13let's see how it goes. Much like the price,
11:15the presentation here is on another level.
11:17I always appreciate a good box.
11:19On the back, we also see that this is GIA
11:21certified. Now, I bought my wife's
11:23engagement and also wedding rings not too long
11:25ago, so I know what this GIA certification
11:27means. GIA grade and also
11:29certified things like diamonds and apparently
11:31also sapphire too. So you can be
11:33sure that this here is pure sapphire.
11:35Folding open the box reveals the installation
11:37frame. We get a QR code to the install
11:39guide, which we will check out. And then on the
11:41left is the sapphire screen protector neatly
11:43wrapped and well protected on a hard
11:45plastic sheet. In theory, this screen
11:47protector should be more scratch resistant than the
11:49iPhone's original display and vastly more
11:51scratch resistant than any of the other screen
11:53protectors that we looked at today. I'm really
11:55excited to test this one out.
11:57But first, we need to apply it. Inside the cleaning
11:59tool kit, we get everything we need. A large
12:01dust sticker, a good quality cleaning cloth
12:03and more dust wipes. And also a
12:05guitar pick. I'm not sure yet what this is for.
12:07And last, we get wet wipes. But not just
12:09any. These are from Zeiss, a company that
12:11manufacture camera lenses.
12:13Let's start with the installation. The QR code on the
12:15tool kit leads to Shellworks' YouTube channel,
12:17which has various installation guides. Text
12:19and photos go some way, but a video
12:21really is best. So this here is great
12:23to see. Though to be honest, it wasn't immediately
12:25clear which video to open. I found
12:27some older one which seemed to show the installation
12:29of an iPhone screen protector.
12:31It would have been nice if the QR code actually
12:33led to a specific video for the model
12:35iPhone that you purchased for. Thankfully,
12:37if you don't have Wi-Fi, they do also have a
12:39detailed step-by-step instructions printed
12:41in the packaging as backup. As always, we begin
12:43by wiping down the phone screen. These Zeiss wipes
12:45are really nice, much bigger than the others and
12:47I can literally feel the chemicals in my
12:49eyes. I then place the frame onto the phone
12:51and use the dust sticker. Then following the
12:53instructions, I carefully remove the screen protector
12:55from its backing and then gradually slide
12:57it onto my phone bit by bit.
12:59And this is where that mysterious guitar pick
13:01comes in. The instructions actually specifically
13:03say not to use your nail to lift the
13:05screen protector. So this time, I'll use the included
13:07guitar pick to be safe. And this tool
13:09actually works really well, allowing me to
13:11easily remove any of the remaining bubbles and
13:13lift the screen protector with ease. Super
13:15great tool. And here we have it,
13:17the Sapphire iPhone. Looking good.
13:19Now it's time to put it to the test.
13:21Starting with the edges, which feel really nice
13:23and well-rounded, not sharp or squared off.
13:25And of course, thanks to the included installation
13:27frame, we get perfect alignment on the phone.
13:29However, I do wonder whether the Sapphire
13:31screen protector is a bit more reflective than
13:33a glass screen protector. And putting it side by
13:35side, the second screen protector we looked at,
13:37it does appear that the reflection of my studio light
13:39is just a bit more apparent on the Sapphire
13:41screen protector than on the glass one.
13:43Onto the fingerprints test, I would say that
13:45the Sapphire screen protector did a great job
13:47at resisting these. Aside from the matte screen protector,
13:49the Sapphire screen protector does the best
13:51job at not showing fingerprints. And the
13:53little fingerprints that do show, wipe off
13:55super easily. The Sapphire screen
13:57protector is a little bit thicker compared to the others
13:59that we looked at, but it still passes the case test
14:01with absolute ease. By the way, if you
14:03aren't interested in the case that I'm using, I'll be sure to leave
14:05links, as well as a special discount code for this
14:07down in the description. And now, for the
14:09moment of truth, the scratch test. I'll start
14:11at level 5, as most other screen protectors
14:13already started to show scratches at this level.
14:15But level 5 here is flawless.
14:17Level 6, again, zero marks.
14:19And then onto level 7, this is where others
14:21really started to show deep scratches,
14:23but once again, the Sapphire screen protector
14:25holds strong with no marks.
14:27I even did a super close-up VAR check
14:29to be sure. At level 8, it looks like
14:31we have some very fine lines, but to be
14:33sure, I do want to see if I can wipe them off.
14:35And yes, these marks fully wiped off.
14:37The screen protector is completely fine
14:39and is in fact damaging my level 8
14:41pick. Looking good so far, but
14:43what about level 9? Remember, this is
14:45what literally dug glass out of the
14:47previous screen protector. But once again,
14:49the Sapphire screen protector is
14:51no match and holds up without a single
14:53scratch. It is so strange, I can
14:55literally feel the pick just glide over
14:57the screen protector, not being able to dig
14:59in or latch onto any of the surface
15:01area. This is really incredible durability.
15:03But just to be completely sure,
15:05I try again, doing my best to scratch the phone,
15:07but alas, the screen protector
15:09perseveres. To put this into context,
15:11check out again what this level 9 pick does
15:13to a glass screen protector compared to the
15:15Sapphire screen protector. What a difference.
15:17Ok, so here are my thoughts on each of the
15:19screen protectors that we tested today.
15:21The $1 screen protector is very
15:23cheap, but not only cheap in price.
15:25The quality here is not great.
15:27There is no effective coatings and the lack of a
15:29frame means that the installation process is
15:31very inconvenient and quite difficult to
15:33get right. I think it is much
15:35wiser to spend a little bit more and get the $6
15:37screen protector. This fixes the issues
15:39from the $1 screen protector by
15:41including a frame. It also has a much better coating
15:43for fingerprint resistance and also a nicer
15:45feel by the edges, creating for a much better
15:47experience overall. The privacy
15:49screen protector was definitely quite interesting
15:51for me to test and use, and I do think that
15:53if you are in public and you don't want others to see what
15:55you're doing, there is a case to be made for
15:57this screen protector. Just remember that this
15:59can make your phone a little bit harder to see, say
16:01in the sun, as this will impact your phone's
16:03brightness. The matte screen protector is
16:05definitely something else. It is such a smooth
16:07and satisfying screen protector to use.
16:09It also does a great job at hiding fingerprints as
16:11well as reflections, but the only issue here
16:13is that that matte texture will make your display
16:15appear a bit softer, making text
16:17and colours pop a bit less.
16:19And then there is the sapphire screen protector.
16:21Now, is it expensive? Yes. But does it
16:23scratch? No. I was truly
16:25really impressed by the durability of this
16:27sapphire screen protector from Shell Russ.
16:29Any reasonable object that may come into
16:31contact with your phone, like keys and coins,
16:33truly don't stand a chance at scratching
16:35this screen protector. And while if you
16:37happen to carry a level 9 most hardness pick
16:39in the same pocket that you carry your phone,
16:41well with this one, you don't have to worry.
16:43In all seriousness, the incredible scratch resistance
16:45of this screen protector means it's going to
16:47last you for a very long time, which can
16:49help justify the price and I do think will
16:51make it worth it for some. It is a truly
16:53unique piece of kit. I would say
16:55the moral of the story here, of the five screen
16:57protectors that we tested today, is avoid
16:59the cheapest option and instead get the second
17:01cheapest option for a much better value.
17:03Let me know if you have any questions at all.
17:05As always, I will leave the purchase links to all screen
17:07protectors as well as my case down in the description
17:09and if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend
17:11to check out my iPhone first things to do video
17:13to help unlock the full potential of your powerful
17:15phone and thank you so much for watching this video
17:17and take care.
