00:00Samsung's new Galaxy S22 features key incremental improvements and upgrades over the previous S21,

00:21The S22 starts at $799 or 769 pounds for 128GB,
00:29and this, I think, is a good place to start.
00:31For those that need it, it also comes in 256GB.
00:35It comes in four colors, including this stunning phantom black.
00:39You guys know I love the midnight color on the iPhone 13,
00:42but seeing this phantom black matte color in person, let's just say I may have a new favorite.
00:48The matte texture on the glass back not only looks great, but also feels great in the hand,
00:53much better compared to the plastic that we saw on the previous S21.
00:57Speaking of which, compared to the S21, the S22 features a slightly more boxy design,
01:03with sharper corners and also a smaller display, going from 6.2 inches to 6.1.
01:09And combined, these factors make for a phone that is really comfortable to hold in the hand,
01:14as well as have in the pocket.
01:16The shiny aluminum sides of the S22 still have a slight curve, making it easy to grip,
01:21though I wish Samsung had made these the same matte texture that we see on the back.
01:26The phone feels premium and very well-made, with build quality comparable to that of the latest iPhones.
01:32The S22 is also IP68 water-resistant, to comfortably use in the rain and even swim with.
01:39Let's take a closer look at the display, because there's a lot to like.
01:43At its price, this 6.1-inch OLED display truly is the best of the best.
01:48The ultrasonic underscreen fingerprint reader is fast, reliable,
01:52and I enjoy using it as the primary way to unlock the phone.
01:56I love the super thin and symmetrical bezels going all the way around the display,
02:01as well as the tiny pinhole selfie camera on the top.
02:04This allows for content to really stretch to the edges of the phone and be mostly unobstructed.
02:10Colors really pop and make your videos and photos come to life.
02:14Content also sounds good on the impressive built-in stereo speakers.
02:18Being an OLED display, there is high contrast between the lighter and darker parts of the screen.
02:23In terms of brightness, we get up to 1300 nits of screen brightness,
02:27meaning it is clearly visible even in direct sunlight.
02:31The S22 also has a 120Hz refresh rate, and this is a feature that I really enjoy having,
02:38making any movement on screen just appear extra smooth.
02:41Whether you are opening and closing apps, scrolling through your Instagram feed, or playing games,
02:46this makes the phone feel even faster than it already is.
02:50At the same time though, if you are reading a static page, such as an article of text,
02:55it will actually lower the refresh rate to as low as 48Hz, and this is to preserve battery life.
03:01And with a smaller battery compared to the S21, any battery preserving is a plus.
03:06Let's talk cameras. Now we get four in total, and this is the single biggest upgrade that the S22 gets.
03:12On the back, we have a triple lens setup, and this is a very impressive camera system.
03:17And this starts with the new main 50MP wide-angle lens.
03:21Photos are rich in detail, white balance is accurate in all lighting conditions,
03:26and colors, though slightly more on the saturated side, still look fantastic.
03:31And then in terms of video, though still not as good as on the iPhone,
03:354K footage at 60fps on the S22 still looks great.
03:40With excellent image stabilization and autofocus that is reliable,
03:44just like with photos, colors are vibrant and dynamic range is strong.
03:49I do find when compared to the iPhone, video just doesn't appear as smooth, regardless of frame rate.
03:54The 10MP 110 degree ultra-wide lens is a little softer than the main lens,
04:00but still looks great, especially in brighter conditions.
04:03And then finally, we have the 10MP 3x telephoto lens.
04:07Now, this is particularly useful for portrait photography.
04:11And this is something I miss having on the similarly priced iPhone 13.
04:15Of the three, the wide-angle lens is the best and is the one that I use most, especially at night.
04:21Samsung's nightography is stunning, creating light where there is none and retaining a great level of detail.
04:27It is truly amazing to see just how far night photography has come on smartphones.
04:33And in this category too, the S22 places itself firmly amongst the best.
04:38And then lastly, on the front, we have the selfie camera, which creates very sharp photos,
04:42great for those selfies as well as video calls.
04:45To power these impressive cameras, you need, well, power, both in terms of battery as well as performance.
04:52The S21 is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and it performs really well.
04:58Any games, photo or video editing apps run super smooth.
05:02It does get a bit warm in the hand, but still not hot and not more so than other phones I've tested.
05:08Samsung's One UI is probably the most stable experience you will find on Android.
05:13It is full of features, sometimes a bit too many, but performs well.
05:16It also features Android's Material U, where the color palette of the OS adapts to the color of your background.
05:23Great to see this level of customization.
05:25The S22 also gets up to four years of software support and updates.
05:30Now, it is still no five to six years, but as an iPhone user, I love to see this.
05:35This is even more than the three years that Google promises for their Pixel phones.
05:40You know how at the start of this video, I said that this phone almost has it all?
05:45Well, this brings me to the almost part.
05:47The S22 has a smaller 3,700 mAh battery compared to the 4,000 mAh battery on the previous S21.
