00:00Hey guys, this is Tommy with the Outdoor Boys YouTube channel, and we're in Alaska
00:06Well, it's 6 30 in the morning and I just woke up my brother and we're going salmon
00:33fishing.
00:49Well if looks could catch us fish, this spot would do it.
00:52Looks good.
00:53Probably some right about here.
00:55See what happens.
00:57Oh, set that man, set that.
01:02There's something down there.
01:04I think a smaller hook is going to do you better.
01:06Yeah, I got a number 12 right there.
01:08I don't get much smaller than that.
01:11Oh, there you go.
01:13My trout rod hooked me a silver here.
01:19Holy mackerel.
01:20You get ready for him to come towards shore, I'll get behind him and, you got him?
01:36Got one.
01:37Little smaller.
01:38Yeah, beautiful though.
01:39There's a beautiful trout.
01:40Nice.
01:41Oh, no, no, no, we got a sucker.
01:56There we go.
01:57Long nose sucker.
01:58Man, that looks a lot like a nigoi in Japan.
02:02Oh, nice little rainbow, beautiful little rainbow.
02:18There you go.
02:19Ransom, congratulations.
02:20Pick him up, Tom.
02:21I have a job for you.
02:22No.
02:23Reel him in, Tom.
02:24Why don't you reel it in, see what happens.
02:25I'm just watching him.
02:37He got away.
02:38Sorry, buddy.
02:39Well, that's not bad.
02:40I think we've caught five or six rainbows, a Dolly Varden, a sucker, and a silver.
02:44I count that as catching it because I touched it.
02:48It was on the bank.
02:49It was on the bank and I touched it.
02:50So that's catch and release.
02:51Indeed.
02:52Pull it up, pull it up, his fish is on, little muddy dolly.
02:58Oh, are you stuck in the mud?
03:02Oh, he got out.
03:04Pull him up and reel it.
03:06He's already on there.
03:07He's fighting.
03:08Yes.
03:09It's a nice rainbow.
03:10Hey, man.
03:11Fish number two.
03:12Not a bad rainbow.
03:13Look at the colors on him.
03:19Gorgeous.
03:21There you go.
03:22There we go.
03:25Oh, I got another rainbow there.
03:36Another nice little rainbow.

04:32Nathan you're muddy but your skin looks so youthful. Is that better? I love you
04:45buddy. Well guys we caught about 15 to 20 rainbow trout two or three Dolly
04:58Varden we caught three whitefish and a silver so not bad for about two or three
05:04hours but Tommy here is very wet and are you cold bud? Yeah and Nathan too is a
05:12little bit cold and dirty so we're gonna call it a day get him back to the
05:17cabin warm him up.
05:37Here want me to wash your feet off? Tommy you feeling better? Nathan you
05:41feeling better buddy? Yeah we gotta clean your ear out. All right we're gonna go
05:50back to the river and see how my brother's doing.
05:54Oh it got off the hook and it's so dead I was like get it. Were you pinning that thing? Yeah he wants to keep it.
06:11All right man the good job you taking those home to eat? Yes. Awesome how many
06:17did you end up catching? I think like five or six but a lot of them we let go.
06:22Man just crushed it with the rainbows today. Yeah. Here you want a stringer? Sure I
06:28guess.
06:40All right well we're getting the cabin straightened up we're gonna get out of
06:45here gonna get some food you boys hungry? All right let's go get some serious
06:51breakfast. Come here and grab daddy. Here watch you don't get buckled up in your
06:56car seat. All right guys we're going to Talkeetna. You guys want breakfast or you want pizza? Pizza.
07:09We're here at Mountain High Pizza Pie in Talkeetna. We're gonna grab some food for
07:15the road here. All right we ordered two extra-large pizzas the carnivore and the
07:19five cheese. Let's see how that goes. All right you ready? Let's go. So my brother is
07:26carrying Tommy out to the restroom and Tommy yells hurry up I might pee on your

07:35Nathan you've been picking your face again. Oh we're taking family photos in
07:49an hour. Mom's gonna kill you and maybe me too. All right let's go home and we're
07:56gonna get washed and bathed and we're gonna get to hug and kiss mommy. So we've
08:04got all of our family here in Alaska so of course we're doing a big family
08:08picture. So we're getting all gussied up. Got the sand out of my boys ears and
08:14we're gonna do everything to make mommy happy. Family picture time. I'm gonna put
08:21away the camera so we can pull out another camera and do family pictures.
08:26Well good morning everybody. This is our last day in Alaska and I'm kind of sad
08:31because I thought we had pretty much a full day tomorrow and we're leaving
08:36tomorrow night. We're leaving tomorrow morning so yeah that's happening.
08:41Family wanted to do a big hike today and go hike up a gold mine up in Hatcher's
08:48Pass but in the meantime before we do that I need to fuel up. So we are gonna go get
08:55breakfast and I'm gonna go to the Southside Grill. There we go. Got food for
09:06everybody. Have a good time. Those waitresses are so nice to Nathan.
09:13Jacob it looks like you just ate. All right there we go.
09:17Reindeer, sausage, eggs, pancakes. Breakfast of Alaskan champions. All right
09:25guys you ready to go up hiking with the cousins?
09:55Okay we're here at Hatcher's Pass Alaska near the Independence gold mine. Now the
10:05Independence gold mine is a fascinating abandoned gold mine. When the price of
10:10gold dropped in like the 50s they thought it was going to open up anytime
10:15soon again. You know there's just a temporary shutdown so they left
10:17everything inside and walked away from it. But then a few days turned to a few
10:24months to a few years and it's an abandoned gold mine never opened back up.
10:28My dad's uncle was actually the caretaker of the gold mine when my dad
10:33was a little boy and he used to come up here and get to play and and go inside
10:38the gold mine and the old office houses and everything. But then it got sold to
10:43the State Park Service and now it's a park and anybody can go here. But we're
10:48here with almost the entire family and my mom and my wife are gonna paint and
10:55we're gonna go hike up to a little lake and who knows maybe I'll find some fish
11:00in it. I have no idea if there's any fish in here. We're we're pretty high up in
11:04the elevation there may not be anything in there but it's a beautiful area so
11:08it'll be fun. Hey Jacob you having fun? Yeah you're liking grandma. Come on
11:15Nathan you gotta walk. It's pretty cool. This is gorgeous.
11:25We used to come up here as Boy Scouts and we would camp and make snow caves in
11:31the wintertime and then the daytime we'd take our sled and climb up the side of the mountain and sled down.
11:45Do you think you can catch dad?
11:57Look at that. Look at that old cabin.
12:16That's looking good.
12:30Yeah look at that.
12:32Well guys I don't see any fish here. I see a few water bugs on top but that's
12:48it. I mean it is crystal crystal clear. It gets really deep right there but I
12:53don't see any fish.
13:00Oh no not the butt crack. Oh ice wedgie.
13:07Nathan. Nathan buddy that's really cold water.
13:15I don't have any snow.
13:18Yourself Tommy.
13:21Well the boys jumped in the water got themselves muddy and wet as they always
13:25do but man check out this view. That's pretty cool. Good view of the mine over
13:32there. Well I'm disappointed there was no fish in there. I was hoping that maybe
13:36there'd be some golden fin or something in there but hey it was still pretty and
13:40we had fun and gotta throw snowballs in July so that's cool.
13:48That can do that.
13:55Well there we go we did it. Hiked all the way up there and back. If you want to do this hike it's
14:00Gold Cord Lake Trail. It's about a mile each way I think. Nathan you look a
14:06little wet and dirty. You tired and cold? Let's go get you warmed up.
14:12Get out of the way.
14:16Legs crossed.
14:20How you doing? There's a smile for daddy. Hey Joe.
14:24Hi.
14:25Hello. I'm punching pants.
14:30Dad my window kids popped.
14:37When I was a little kid we used to camp up here and I remember we snuck into those buildings.
14:41They weren't collapsed back then. Stuck our heads in there was old crampons and
14:47mining equipment and stuff up in there.
15:01The old quarters for the miners back in the days.
15:03Yeah the old washroom.
15:11Check out these old slate top pool tables.
15:21That's a big old engine.
15:25Look at these old buildings.
15:31Come on we're going up there.
15:41That was fun. No joking.
15:57A lot of the metal had to be shipped up from the lower 48's. I mean this was not a little
16:02task getting all this stuff up here. It's just laying abandoned.
16:08Whoa it's freezing.
16:11Yeah it's cold in here isn't it?
16:14And there's the door to the mine. It's all gated up.
16:23Are you disappointed we couldn't go down to the mine?
16:27This is the drills they used to drill the rocks and break up the rocks.
16:33Grandma have you been babysitting Jacob?
16:36Yeah look at this play pit back here. This is perfect.
16:40You're a sports utility baby.
16:43Hey Nathan.
16:46Hey Jacob did you miss me?
16:49Alright boys come on let's go in the car.
16:51So many happy memories growing up here.
16:54But tomorrow morning we're getting on a plane heading to British Columbia.
16:59Alright guys did you have fun?
17:01Yeah.
17:05Well it's our last night here in Alaska and we're back in Anchorage.
17:09So I am taking my family, my mom and one of my younger sisters out to dinner.
17:15But we gotta get some clothes on Nathan. He's naked.
17:19Alright you ready to go have some dinner?
17:21Yeah.
17:23Go get it Melanie.
17:26Well guys we're leaving Alaska tomorrow morning.
17:29Our flight leaves at like 10.30 in the morning.
17:32So we're pretty much going to get up, eat breakfast, go to the airport.
17:36And this is our last opportunity to have access to a washer and dryer.
17:41So we're doing all of our laundry and taking care of all the boys stuff.
17:48We've got, look at all this packing we've got to do.
17:52So yeah I'm going to stay up late tonight.
17:55Packing everything, getting everything clean and ready to go.
