00:00Hey guys, I'm Tom from TechJab, and this brand spanking new TV for 2024, the LG QNED
00:2586 75-inch 4K Smart TV.
00:28But what's new, what is QNED, and why might you want to buy something like this?
00:34So this is the QNED 86.
00:37It's one of their upper mid-range TVs, and they've been making these QNEDs for a few
00:41years now.
00:42Essentially, QNED combines LG's NanoCell and Quantum Dot technology, which boosts the
00:46brightness and the colour.
00:48It's like the best of the best of a regular LED TV.
00:51Now the eagle-eyed among you may notice I have two TVs here.
00:55This is a 65-inch, which is still a big TV, but nothing compared with this 75-inch QNED
01:0286.
01:03And the beauty of QNED is that you can go with a much bigger size, while spending similar
01:07or even less money than a smaller flagship model.
01:09And I don't think anyone's really ever regretted going for a bigger TV.
01:13Still top-notch picture quality, all the features you need, I mean, it's 4K, 120Hz, we have
01:18VRR, low latency, game mode, HDMI 2.1.
01:21And the QNED 86 comes in 50, 55, 65, 75 and a whopping 86 inches.
01:28And actually, if I put this next to a regular 55-inch TV, you can see just how much of a
01:32difference that extra size makes.
01:34Going from a 55 to a 75 or bigger adds a huge amount more screen space, and just makes your
01:39movies and games feel even more immersive.
01:42You have to admit, if you're binge-watching Fallout or Shogun or watching Dune 2 in 4K
01:47HDR, the bigger size gives you a proper theatre experience.
01:51The only downsides are that it costs a bit more, and you may have to convince your partner.
01:55Although just show them this video, blame it on the tech chap.
01:58I have my monitor off-camera here, and I can see myself next to this TV.
02:03But anyway, what is new with the 2024 QNED 86?
02:07The headline really is the new processor, we've got the Alpha 8 AI processor 4K, which
02:13is quite a big upgrade actually over last year's Alpha 7.
02:15And I'm told it's giving us 1.3 times faster AI performance, 2.3 times faster graphics,
02:21and a 1.6 times boost in processing speed.
02:24Pretty significant year on year.
02:25And it just means everything feels more responsive, even navigating around menus and opening apps.
02:30We have better upscaling with the AI Picture Pro, smarter AI features, and together with
02:35their latest WebOS 24 UI, and the guarantee of 5 years of full updates, it'll mean you
02:40can go even longer before needing to upgrade again.
02:43Speaking of AI, one of the new features we have on here that we also have on the EVO
02:47G4 is this little chatbot at the top left here.
02:51You just open the settings menu, open the chatbot, and this basically gives you a way
02:55of troubleshooting if you've got any issues.
02:56It gives you tips on how to sort of optimise and fix any problems you might have.
03:01Like my mum isn't particularly techie, and she doesn't want to be trolling through menus
03:04and figuring out what different things mean.
03:06We also have AI Concierge, which can give you suggestions of what to watch.
03:10But really the most significant update with the processor is the improved AI Picture Pro.
03:14This handles the AI Super Upscaling, and using a deep learning algorithm to analyse
03:18what you're watching, it can upscale low resolution content to 4K, and even for native
03:234K, it can optimise the picture, so you do get noticeably sharper detail, textures, and
03:28clarity in the image, but without adding any noise, like you would if you simply turned
03:31up the sharpness.
03:32We're looking at over 1000 nits of brightness, we have HDR10, and with HDR Dynamic Tone Mapping,
03:38working to improve the dynamic range on a frame-by-frame basis, you're just getting
03:41a more accurate picture.
03:43And with its precision dimming control, and a relatively high contrast, you get lovely
03:47deep blacks, and minimal blooming.
03:50If you've used an LG TV from the past few years, then this menu and the settings will
03:53all be pretty familiar.
03:55With the usual array of picture modes, although I'd probably avoid Vivid for everyday use,
03:59I mostly use Expo Bright, and also the Filmmaker mode for movies, which matches the colour,
04:03the settings, and the frame rate of what the director intended.
04:06But the TV will do all this for you, automatically putting you in the best picture mode for what
04:10you're watching.
04:12I have my PS5 hooked up here, and when it detects the console input, it'll switch
04:15over to Game Mode, turning off all the background processing for the fastest response time and
04:19lowest input lag.
04:20And we get the revamped Game Dashboard, with Game Optimizer, so you can see your frame
04:24rate, what VRR is being used, and just adjust game-specific picture modes.
04:29Anyone else jumping back into Fallout 4 with the next-gen patch after watching the show?
04:33Round the back, we have 4 HDMI 2.1s, so you can get full 4K 120 from your PS5, your Xbox
04:38or your PC, and HDMI 3 here supports eARC for connecting a soundbar or speaker system.
04:45Now the speakers built in here are pretty decent, but if you're going to buy a TV
04:48this good, then I would definitely recommend pairing it with an external sound system or
04:52a soundbar.
04:53There is a specific QNED model that LG have launched to go along with this, it's the
04:58LG Soundbar US70TY, which is a 5.1.1 channel, 500W setup that includes this wireless bass
05:05unit subwoofer and a couple of surround speakers.
05:08It gets Dolby Atmos and DTS-X thanks to this central op-firing speaker on the soundbar
05:13and also the surrounds, so you're getting that immersive room-filling sound.
05:18Plus there's Bluetooth, and this remote for controlling your music, and just connect
05:21it via the HDMI with eARC, simple as that.
05:25And as it's designed to go alongside these QNED TVs, it obviously looks great, and if
05:29you're wall-mounting, the Synergy bracket lets you attach the US70TY to your TV without
05:34the need for a separate wall bracket.
05:36But what I do appreciate is that the actual design of the TV with the stand, there are
05:40two height options.
05:41So you can either put your soundbar here, or if you're using a separate speaker system,
05:45you can lower it down a little bit.
05:46That's really nice.
05:47We also have the same much-improved stand that came from last year's QNED model, really,
05:52really secure, it's a pretty chunky bit of metal, that.
05:55And it really is a lovely-looking TV, nice thin bezels around the side.
05:58You can wall-mount it, you can VESA mount it, and as usual, it's bundled with their
06:01Magic Remote, which is very functional.
06:04They've got some nice shortcuts to streaming apps, but I wouldn't say no to perhaps a slightly
06:08refreshed, more premium, less plasticky remote.
06:12So that is the LG QNED 86 75-inch 4K Smart TV.
06:16I would say it's more of an incremental upgrade this year, mainly with that new processor,
06:20nothing night and day.
06:21It's a very nice all-round TV, and if you do fancy buying this one for yourself, I will
06:24leave a link in the description below.
06:26Any questions, drop a comment, and if you enjoyed the video, a little like and subscribe
06:29would be fantastic.
