00:00What's up guys, today we're going to be doing an 8 month follow up of the iPhone 14 Pro.
00:05It's been 8 months since we've been using this phone and I've been using the S23 Ultra, the Pixel 7 Pro a lot too.
00:12So I'm going to be drawing these comparisons, so it's not going to be all sweet.
00:17And I want to go ahead and start off with the Dynamic Island because that's the biggest change, you could say, from the 13 Pro to the 14 Pro.
00:26And a lot of people might not like this but I think Apple should get rid of the Dynamic Island.
00:32I don't think it's useful guys.
00:35I think it looks like an outdated display still pretty much.
00:40So basically it reminds me of the S10 5G, it's just that the punch hole or cut out is in the middle instead of on the right.
00:49And that's an outdated design, I think Apple needs to put a punch hole on here and I would say get rid of Face ID completely.
00:57Bring back Touch ID, put it in the power button or put it under the display fingerprint sensor so the iPhone has a more of a modern look.
01:07Basically, you know, something similar to on the S23 Ultra.
01:14Just look at the displays guys, it just looks outdated compared to the S23 Ultra.
01:21And not so much, you know, this has a boxier design but it's really not that, it's just Apple's big notch on this phone.
01:28So I've never been a fan of that and the question is, well is the Dynamic Island, that is useful right?
01:37Is it worth having this pill shaped cut out?
01:40Because remember Apple had the notch on the iPhone for a very long time and then they moved to this.
01:44It is more immersive but I just don't think it's worth it.
01:49One of the reasons why is simply because this phone does not support a ton of apps for the Dynamic Island.
01:56So that's one thing, it just seems like, you know, a few apps support it like, you know, at least a few apps that I use.
02:03It just doesn't seem like it's always useful.
02:06So you got that right there and it's basically like a generic way of multitasking pretty much.
02:14And yeah, it just feels like a generic way of multitasking.
02:19So on Android, you have a more real sort of way of multitasking.
02:25That's what it feels like to me, Apple's way of kind of multitasking and bouncing in and out of applications.
02:30But it just feels like a terrible experience.
02:33So we know on Android, if you want to multitask, you basically, you get real multitasking right?
02:40And Samsung makes it super easy, you can even go more in depth than that.
02:45But you can bring up little windows and stuff like that.
02:50So Android has real multitasking.
02:53This feels like it's trying to multitask but it's doing like a terrible job at it.
02:58Like it doesn't feel useful.
03:00So, you know, one of the main things you'll see the Dynamic Island for is like, you know, music and stuff like that.
03:07But like I said, if I'm like going through songs and stuff, I can just have a split screen, interact with the whole music application.
03:15And I can still interact with something else or I can go back to the home screen and use a bubble format.
03:21Android is just so much more advanced when it comes to multitasking is what I noticed.
03:25And this is better than what they had with the 13 Pro.
03:28It is a little bit faster switching between apps but honestly, you know, let's just keep it real.
03:34You can pretty much switch applications like that.
03:37That feels faster just to go back to the clock app.
03:40Yeah, I just don't think the Dynamic Island is useful.
03:44What do you guys think? I think Apple should get rid of it.
03:46Alright, so my next criticism with this phone is that the battery life.
03:51So let's talk about that.
03:53The battery life on this phone is not as good as the 13 Pro.
03:57It could be several reasons.
03:59It could be because the Dynamic Island is always animated when people call and it's constantly doing stuff and animations.
04:07It could be because of that.
04:09I was getting worse battery life with the Always On Display.
04:13So let's talk about how this Always On Display is absolutely awful.
04:17You literally have to turn it off.
04:19And I want to know, do you guys use the Always On Display with this phone?
04:23So basically, here's the Always On Display.
04:26I don't know who thought this was a good idea, but you turn the phone off and it looks like it's still on.
04:32And I just hate that.
04:34I absolutely hate that.
04:36I think that probably has something to do because I felt like I was getting worse battery life with this on.
04:40And that's on, off.
04:44I don't know why Apple just can't do it the normal way.
04:49It seems like they have to try to be so different from Android.
04:54But that's how you do an Always On Display.
04:57I want everything to be dark.
04:59And you could put a dark wallpaper here, but why do I have to do that?
05:05So they should have an option for me to just be able to see the clock or something like that.
05:10I don't want to see my whole wallpaper.
05:12It literally looks like the phone is on.
05:14So I absolutely hate that.
05:16I had to turn it off.
05:17Even though that was a good addition that they added to the phone.
05:20I can't even use it because it feels like, one, it kills the battery life.
05:23And two, I just think it's awful.
05:25Alright, so it's not all bad with this display.
05:27There is one thing that I really like about the display.
05:30And that is the fact that it's a really, really bright display.
05:34It's 2000 nits peak brightness.
05:36When you're outdoors, you can easily see this phone.
05:39It's really, really nice.
05:40Direct sunlight.
05:41You can easily see what you're doing on this phone.
05:44And the specs on the display, the color and everything is still really nice.
05:47It's the Super Retina XDR OLED display.
05:50It's a 6.1 inch panel.
05:52And it is a 1080p plus panel on here as well too.
05:57460 for the PPI.
05:59And the display looks fine.
06:01Like I said, I think the best thing about the display is honestly, it's just super, super bright.
06:06So that's one thing that I really like.
06:08I've never struggled seeing this phone outdoors.
06:12Now let's talk about performance on this phone.
06:14It's pretty good performance.
06:16I'm a good performer when it comes to gaming and stuff like that.
06:20Of course, Apple has a very fast chip.
06:22Play PUBG at 90 frames.
06:24And my only thing about this phone is that it can get kind of hot for long periods of time with gaming and stuff like that.
06:32Most people, you might not notice because you probably have a case on it.
06:37But I definitely noticed that it can get a little bit hot for sure.
06:42I've never had this phone actually crash on me or start doing like crazy frame drops.
06:46Yeah, so this phone does have the Apple A16 chip.
06:50128 gigs of internal storage and 6 gigs of RAM on this model here.
06:55And like I said, performance wise, it's been pretty smooth.
06:59A lot of people have had a lot of glitches with iOS and a lot of bugs and stuff.
07:04For me personally, I've never really had any major complaints with bugs with iOS.
07:10Everything seems to work. Everything is very fluid.
07:12Everything is very smooth on here.
07:14So again, no real complaints when it comes to performance on this phone.
07:19It's actually pretty good.
07:21Now Apple has always had some pretty impressive speakers and these are still pretty good.
07:41So I think these speakers are pretty good on here.
07:44A lot of bass, really loud.
07:46If you cover the bottom one, you still get a ton of sound out of the top speakers.
07:51So I think for the speakers, it's pretty nice.
07:53And let's touch on some more hardware here.
07:56So this phone, it is IP68 dust and water resistant.
08:00I haven't had any issues with that.
08:02It's pretty good.
08:03It's got a lot of speakers.
08:05So this phone, it is IP68 dust and water resistant.
08:09I haven't had any problems.
08:11I dropped it a couple of times.
08:12It's pretty sturdy.
08:14But as always with iPhones, I recommend putting a case on this guy.
08:18Hardware wise, it's a very nice phone.
08:20The matte finish on here.
08:22I'm not really a big fan of the boxy sort of design.
08:27And that's with the S23 Ultra.
08:29Just a lot of these phones are super, super boxy now.
08:33A lot of these phones are just boxy and they kind of cut into the hand.
08:36Which I'm not the biggest fan of.
08:38But if you put a case on it, it's not that big of a deal.
08:41But yeah, it's a pretty nice phone to look at and also very nice looking.
08:47The only thing about this design is I kind of wish they would bring back the rails on the iPhone 11s
08:54where I don't have to look at the smudges on the phone.
08:58It just doesn't look that good.
09:01So I would definitely put a matte finish on the rails.
09:04This glossy finish is just something that...
09:07I don't know. I don't really like the glossy finish.
09:09You can just see a bunch of smudges and fingerprints.
09:13But other than that, very beautiful phone.
09:15Also, with the hardware, the camera module gets really dirty.
09:21And I tried to clean it up.
09:24But the whole thing gets dirty, right?
09:27And that's pretty much...
09:29I don't know. It might be this color.
09:31But you just notice a ton of dust and it just gets really dirty.
09:35You have to clean it a lot.
09:37And it's really hard to get.
09:39You have to really get in between there.
09:41But overall, the hardware is pretty nice.
09:44So it's what you expect from a $1000 phone, right?
09:48Let's talk about the camera.
09:50So this phone has a 48MP standard, a 12MP telephoto that does 3x optical zoom,
09:56and then a 12MP ultrawide.
09:58It can shoot in 4K 60 on the front and back.
10:01And it has a 12MP selfie cam.
10:04The cameras, for the most part, are pretty good.
10:07My only complaint with the camera is that
10:09I think the skin tones are always off for me.
10:14It just makes me look grey and very washed out.
10:17I absolutely hate it.
10:19I feel like I have to edit every time I take any type of selfie
10:22or any type of picture where I'm indoors.
10:25It just gets my skin tone completely wrong.
10:28It seems like that for everyone in my family as well.
10:31So it's kind of like it doesn't do that well indoors with darker skin tones.
10:36So that's one thing.
10:38Now, when you're just in outdoor lighting,
10:40it takes great shots on skin tones and stuff like that.
10:44But that's typically why I use the Pixel or the S23 Ultra for shots.
10:49I do think the iPhone has some really good video.
10:52I just really like the way the video looks on the iPhone for sure.
10:56I've always been a big fan of the video on the iPhone.
11:00I think for the average person, this is a great camera.
11:04It's taking stills.
11:06The cinematic mode is pretty decent.
11:09But yeah, I wish Apple would implement some more zoom on this phone.
11:13Once you start using phones like the Pixel or the S23 Ultra,
11:16having that extra ability to zoom is pretty nice,
11:19especially with the S23 Ultra with the 10x zoom.
11:22I would definitely like to see that.
11:24I think them putting the 48MP camera on here is pretty sweet
11:28so you can take the raw photos.
11:30And you get some pretty nice detail if you want to crop into a photo.
11:33So I think that was a pretty good move.
11:35The selfie camera, like I said, is fine, minus the skin tones.
11:39And it does the autofocusing as well too, which is really nice.
11:43So overall, I think the cameras on the 14 Pro are pretty good.
11:47The ultrawide is very consistent.
11:49And I don't really have any major issues with the cameras.
11:52I think anybody will pick this phone up, take a shot,
11:55and I think they'll be really happy with the image quality for the most part.
11:59All right, lastly is, you know, I pretty much touched on the battery life.
12:03I think the, and I don't know, but maybe the dynamic island
12:07is affecting the battery life on this phone.
12:09But it feels like I have to charge this phone.
12:13You know, it feels like it gets low before the day is over.
12:17So I definitely have to charge this phone.
12:19It can kind of go all day.
12:21But if you're doing anything heavy like gaming, recording videos,
12:25basically, I just watch a lot of videos and stuff.
12:28And I don't do a lot of heavy stuff on my phone.
12:30And it just feels like it doesn't feel anywhere near as good as the 13 Pro,
12:34which I could use that phone when it first came out.
12:37I use it for like, it feels like a day and a half.
12:39This one, I definitely have to charge it every day.
12:41For sure.
12:43Yeah, so the battery, it's got a 3200 mAh battery.
12:47It's also got kind of slow charging on here.
12:50It's not really super fast charging like on the S23 Ultra.
12:54You don't have that 45W or 30W kind of.
12:57I think this one is like, I think Apple has the 25W charging speed,
13:02something like that.
13:04Also, this has 15W wireless charging, has the MagSafe capability on here,
13:10which is cool.
13:11You can put accessories on here.
13:13And I did a couple of cases as well that you guys can check out.
13:17This one from Case Cool, you slap the MagSafe on here.
13:20You can put wallets on here.
13:22I think that's pretty cool.
13:23I don't use them because, you know, it's just not my thing.
13:26But that's very cool to have.
13:28And yeah, so overall, I think it's a pretty decent phone, guys.
13:32I really like the phone.
13:34Like I said, I would get rid of the dynamic island.
13:37I would fix the always-on display.
13:39The battery life definitely needs some improvements.
13:42I think Apple needs to switch to USB Type-C.
13:45Their charging thing is stupid.
13:47It makes everything really complicated, especially if you're like me,
13:51you have, you know, a ton of Android phones.
13:54It's annoying.
13:56Yeah, so what do you guys think?
13:58Be sure to let me know, and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
