00:00:0020, 24. China. The V's is back.
00:00:07And this, the 1080.
00:00:18Now you're ready to meet your riders.
00:00:21It all comes down to this moment. Real question right now.
00:00:25Who is on top?
00:00:31What is up V's family?
00:00:33I'd like to welcome you all to this first live stream of this weekend at the V's World Series
00:00:38here on the banks of the Huangpu River in Shanghai, in the lovely country of China.
00:00:45My name is Egon, and I'll be your general commentator for this weekend
00:00:48and for this World Skate World Cup Freestyle Park Women's Final.
00:00:53I have the one and only, the best looking man in inline skating, Freddie Blanc.
00:00:59Okay, that's quite the introduction. Hello everyone. Thank you, Egon.
00:01:02You're not bad looking either. I think we're pretty much rocking the place around here in Shanghai.
00:01:07Yeah, welcome back. Five years. It's been five years since we were here with V's in China.
00:01:14We changed locations and we are now set on the river in the West Bund of Shanghai.
00:01:21Amazing location.
00:01:23So, a bit of a history lesson here. There's the actual Bund,
00:01:26which is a bit more up north, actually, here on the Huangpu River.
00:01:29Now, this is the West Bund district, which is an up-and-coming area here.
00:01:32A lot of financial tech, medtech, all the up-and-coming technologies, let's say.
00:01:39Now, we're having a look here at the park that will be ridden by our athletes.
00:01:44And it's a massive one, as you are used to seeing here at V's.
00:01:48This time, I would dare to say that our team at Hurricane Parks went even crazier.
00:01:54Pascal Moras and his crew have been really busy building one of the craziest
00:01:59and best-looking skateparks we've ever had at V's.
00:02:02It's massive. It's full of options and lines.
00:02:05It's going to be very interesting to see what our riders are able to do here on the park.
00:02:11I also heard from Pascal that they've been using new techniques
00:02:15to actually improve on the rigidity of the ramp.
00:02:18So, let's say that all the pump that you put into it, like, get more pop out of it.
00:02:23New kinds of coping, or like the noping.
00:02:26The noping.
00:02:27The noping. And the modularity of it all, because this is a double-use park.
00:02:32But let's first take a watch at the competition format.
00:02:35Yeah, we'll have eight riders here in the finals.
00:02:38I guess they will all go in one after the other.
00:02:42Each rider will have two runs of 50 seconds per rider,
00:02:45and the best score will count. The best of these two runs will count.
00:02:51And you were mentioning our new skatepark technology.
00:02:55So, start-ups are also applying to this freestyle park.
00:02:59We have Pascal being the mad genius here.
00:03:02And it's only one of the many skateparks we have on this massive venue.
00:03:08This is also a double-use park, because we're also using this for the BMX competition.
00:03:14Indeed, which also says something about the magnitude and the sheer size of this course.
00:03:20So, it's always a challenge for the inline skaters to adapt to this massive course.
00:03:27And we'll see how they do.
00:03:30We have a whole lot of criteria.
00:03:33We're hiring our experts in the sport, and we'll be able to take all of these into account.
00:03:38Style, progression, technical difficulty, and many, many more.
00:03:42I would say the use of the skatepark, as you said, it's a double-use skatepark.
00:03:45So, this will be very interesting to see who manages to get the best run,
00:03:51the best line out of this massive skatepark.
00:03:54I'm also really curious about this one little detail on the park.
00:03:58It's the traditional Chinese pagoda, the temple that they've made as well.
00:04:03Has anyone already tried a trick on it?
00:04:06I've seen people taking selfies, mostly.
00:04:10But yeah, very interesting obstacle, very good-looking.
00:04:13Now, are we going to see someone use it in the park, in the contest?
00:04:20That's another question.
00:04:22We have four experts here, four judges, as we said.
00:04:26Our very own Blake Bird, Pascal Moraes, who's also the designer of the skatepark,
00:04:30Australian legend CJ Wellsmore, and street maestro Soichiro Kanashima.
00:04:40So, all very experienced, very well-versed in inline skating, roller freestyle, should I call it.
00:04:49And as you can see here, we have some highlights from yesterday.
00:04:53Our riders went all out on the course.
00:04:56We had some big flips, big spins on the main flybox,
00:05:00but then we also had different riders using different parts of the course
00:05:06and all bringing their own little twist to this course.
00:05:11So, it's going to be interesting to see who has the most original line.
00:05:16And we're going to meet all our riders in a second now.
00:05:21Okay, so after this highlight reel, we will go back to the park
00:05:25and we'll get ready for the rider introduction.
00:05:27We are back again, China, this time in beautiful, sunny Shanghai.
00:05:33We are here for F.E.A.S.T. 2024.
00:05:36It is part of our World Skate Championship.
00:05:39We're going to get right into rider introductions.
00:05:44Our first rider, from Italy, Annalem Orosteguistad.
00:05:57Our second rider, from Japan, Sorachi Kawasaki.
00:06:06We'll see a lot of Japanese riders here in the finals.
00:06:09Our third rider, from France, Armel Tissot.
00:06:15And the sole French representative in those finals.
00:06:18Our next rider, out of Japan, Miyao Kaho.
00:06:26Another one of Takeshi's students.
00:06:29Our local rider in the finals, from Beijing, China, Chih-Mu Ge Hong.
00:06:39And she was the sensation yesterday. She skated the park very well.
00:06:48Another well-known face here at F.E.A.S.T.
00:06:50She was fifth in Montpellier this year.
00:06:59She placed third in the World Skate Games in Rome last month.
00:07:05And our third qualifier, from Korea, Jeong So-Ah.
00:07:09And So-Ah destroyed the park yesterday.
00:07:14She placed first, as you saw here.
00:07:17Women's Roller Freestyle! Come on!
00:07:31And welcome back to the World Skate Roller Freestyle Park Finals.
00:07:35Here in the women's category.
00:07:38We're still at the West Bund of Shanghai, here in China.
00:07:42We're getting ready for our eight riders to see who's on top in this competition.
00:07:47Who's taking away the gold medal of this F.E.A.S.T. World Series here in Shanghai.
00:07:53And we have quite the lineup.
00:07:55As I said, we have a strong Japanese force representing on the course today.
00:08:00But first qualifier yesterday, Jeong So-Ah from Korea.
00:08:04Taught well by our friend Kevin.
00:08:07She's been growing, she's been skating better and better.
00:08:10Making quite a sensation online and on competitions.
00:08:13And I can't wait to see what the finals are going to be like.
00:08:18Because there's a lot of pressure for everyone to just hold the top spot.
00:08:22But she's proved again and again that she has the shoulders out of her young age.
00:08:29The shoulders to carry all this pressure to a gold medal.
00:08:32Now we're getting ready for the Italian, for Anne-Lim Arrostegui.
00:08:37Now we saw that she took quite a nasty crash in practice.
00:08:41How will that impact this final for her?
00:08:44I hope she's fine. I mean she took it like a strong woman that she is.
00:08:49Like she was able to carry on and make it all the way to these finals.
00:08:53I'm very curious to see what she has in store for us today.
00:08:56She performed very well in Rome at this World Skate Games we just mentioned.
00:09:00Both in street and park.
00:09:03So now I'm quite curious.
00:09:05It's going to be very interesting to see everything happening here today.
00:09:09And we're just about to get started.
00:09:11So sit down, relax and enjoy the show.
00:09:1550 seconds for Anne-Lim on the clock for her first run. Let's go!
00:09:21Here she's going with the front flip.
00:09:27She missed the switch up here on the coping.
00:09:30And as you now know if you've been following us over the years.
00:09:35These are the kind of technical errors that can bring the score down just a little bit.
00:09:40No falls though. And that big 720 here.
00:09:43She's cruising. She's flowing through the park.
00:09:46Topsole on the quarter pipe. Still going. 20 seconds left.
00:09:50Using the A-frame box.
00:09:56But as we mentioned in the park presentation.
00:09:59Whoa! Backflip attempt here to finish the run.
00:10:04So we had a backflip on the fly box and backflip here in the quarter pipe.
00:10:11Keep in mind it's 28 degrees right now here in Shanghai.
00:10:14It's humid so every run that a rider does in any sport here this weekend.
00:10:19Feels like you're running a marathon.
00:10:22It is even here in our comfortable little bunker box.
00:10:25Self-insulated with some umbrellas and cardboard.
00:10:28We can feel the heat and the river is just reflecting and bringing us all this warm humid heat.
00:10:35Keeping everyone very well warmed up for the competition.
00:10:39So we had that strong start with the front flip on the box.
00:10:42Fronty actually. You're right.
00:10:44Starting with the front flip and finishing off with the backflip attempt.
00:10:48Big 720 here on the quarter pipe.
00:10:51She's got the spin. She had some grinds as well.
00:10:54So it's a nice combination.
00:10:56It didn't go all the way through this A-frame.
00:11:00Now if you perform a grind on a box and you don't make it all the way to the other side.
00:11:06Will that give you let's say error points?
00:11:10Or will it just be like a lower result instead of like the long grind?
00:11:13I think the judges would probably take it into account.
00:11:17Because of course if you grind all the way through and if you flow all the way through the obstacle.
00:11:21Then that goes into like the maximum amount of points you can get in terms of use of the course and flow.
00:11:28Next rider will be from Japan.
00:11:31And that is Kawasaki Sorachi.
00:11:33And here she goes.
00:11:36One of Takeshi Yasutoko's students.
00:11:42Going through. I saw her perform some nice spins yesterday.
00:11:47But as you can see using the course and finding a thing.
00:11:53That was the main thing that impacted her score yesterday.
00:11:58It's like trying to find the best line in the park.
00:12:01And she's like kind of looking around and trying to find the best way to use the park.
00:12:06But you know like she's rolling around a lot.
00:12:11But not doing so many tricks.
00:12:13And I guess that is why.
00:12:15Although she has like very nice style, very nice flow.
00:12:19She may be lacking a bit of amplitude and a bit of tricks.
00:12:23Missed a flip though.
00:12:25Missed a flip to finish things off.
00:12:31You know what the BMX riders were saying as well.
00:12:33It's a park with a lot of lines.
00:12:35But that might also imply there's too many lines to choose from.
00:12:40Which makes it hard finding your line, the line that you want to ride.
00:12:46But I guess that's the whole point as well.
00:12:48I think that's why Pascal, both on this skatepark and the park we'll be using for the amateur contest and the junior contest.
00:12:54He's trying to offer riders the possibility to really fully express their own personal style of riding.
00:13:01And not force everyone to use the same line over and over.
00:13:04Fly box, quarter pipe, kind of like repeats the same line.
00:13:07And judge people on how big or how hard they can do on these two or three obstacles that everyone will be using.
00:13:15Here it's really open to interpretation and that's what I love.
00:13:18It's really, you know, these sports, these urban sports that we represent here at FISA are all about self-expression.
00:13:25And I think that's why these courses that we have this year are very well suited for the use.
00:13:34To reward the creativity that goes into a line.
00:13:39And let's see what Armel has in store for us.
00:13:43From Japan to the other side of the world, we're going to La France.
00:13:48Let's see how the jet lag impacts Armel.
00:13:54Dropping in right now.
00:13:57Using like a flowy.
00:13:59Wow, that was pretty nice.
00:14:01Came off a bit short on this backtorque.
00:14:03Fishbrain freestyle here on the quarter pipe.
00:14:07Let's see, totally different start of a run compared to the other two riders.
00:14:10540 here.
00:14:14And a little fakie 360 dropping down.
00:14:19Lots of tricks all around.
00:14:20It's quite an original line.
00:14:21I like that she's using a lot of different obstacles.
00:14:24Sweat stands here on the coping.
00:14:2715 seconds left.
00:14:29Maybe we would need like a bit more speed, a bit more amplitude.
00:14:33But it's a really technical run.
00:14:34She's been grinding a lot of different obstacles here.
00:14:39Making it to the top side of the park.
00:14:43And a little 360 and then fakie 540 to finish things off.
00:14:50That was really solid all the way through Goud.
00:14:52That was really solid all the way through Goud.
00:14:5450 seconds.
00:14:55I assure you, not only the heat but the sheer size of this course
00:14:58make it very hard to stay on your feet this long.
00:15:01Let alone perform tricks all the way through.
00:15:05Overall, really solid performance for Armel.
00:15:11Let's see some of the elements right now.
00:15:17And this is one of her signature tricks.
00:15:20Backside torque.
00:15:21As you can see, balancing only on one foot.
00:15:23Going all the way through.
00:15:25Big and high 540 here.
00:15:28She definitely had some very nice tricks.
00:15:30Very well executed.
00:15:31Everything is very clean.
00:15:36Sweat stands here.
00:15:38Locking in on the coping.
00:15:40The noping.
00:15:43And that was the end of the run.
00:15:46So it's interesting because usually you see riders
00:15:48trying to use the upper part of the course to start their runs
00:15:51and then they will start going in.
00:15:54And she went the other way around.
00:15:56She went through the whole park
00:15:58and then hit the higher obstacles at the end.
00:16:0270 point score to reward Armel on this first run.
00:16:07Remember, the best of those two runs will count for each rider.
00:16:11So everything is still open.
00:16:18Everything is possible.
00:16:20And Miaou showed us that she has also some very good tricks in store.
00:16:28The number 2 from Fise Montpellier half a year ago.
00:16:33And you can see why.
00:16:35Starting the big hip transfer to launch into this fly box
00:16:39with the nice 540 perfectly executed.
00:16:42Going back up on the step up.
00:16:44And once again, dropping back in.
00:16:46Very good flow.
00:16:49Perfect misty flip.
00:16:52Carving fakie over the wrong shoulder.
00:16:55She makes it look effortless.
00:16:57Going stoke well as my friend The Mic would say.
00:17:01But she fell here on this 540. That's too bad.
00:17:04That's too bad. It was really, really a beautiful run so far.
00:17:12But as we said, the best of those two runs count.
00:17:16And so she still got a chance to improve on her second run
00:17:19and hopefully clean that up.
00:17:22I really enjoyed that run.
00:17:26Just from the looks of it, how she started that run,
00:17:28how she kept it going up until the middle end.
00:17:31That looked like, let's say, a podium run from my perspective.
00:17:35Absolutely.
00:17:37As we said, the flow and the use of the park are two essential factors.
00:17:41And she was really going her own way through the park.
00:17:44Everything was very clean.
00:17:46Always landing on top of transition, but also throwing some big tricks.
00:17:49The misty flip on the fly box.
00:17:52That's really, I think, the type of runs that the judges would want to see.
00:17:59Nice 5.
00:18:01Really flat over there.
00:18:03And holding the fakie afterwards.
00:18:07Going back up.
00:18:11Using the upper side of the course.
00:18:13To build up that speed again.
00:18:15She's really skating the park like a ball,
00:18:18which I think would be the best way to maintain your speed all throughout.
00:18:26Conserving energy with every jump, with every pump through the course.
00:18:31And she still scores 62 points.
00:18:35Good enough to award her with the second place so far.
00:18:41She will have a chance to improve on her second run.
00:18:45But now we're going back to China with the local sensation, Shimu Ge.
00:18:5650 seconds to impress both the judges and the early morning crowd.
00:19:03Let's hope she brought some friends along from Beijing here to Shanghai.
00:19:11Here we go.
00:19:12Also starting with the pit transfer here too.
00:19:16Wow!
00:19:19Also using that fakie carve to maintain that speed all through 5.40 here.
00:19:26Very nice.
00:19:31Also got a lot of speeches.
00:19:33Very young, I believe.
00:19:35She looks very tiny on this gigantic skate park,
00:19:38and yet she's cruising through really fast.
00:19:47She does it without breaking a sweat.
00:19:5010 more seconds for Han.
00:19:527.20 and a few more seconds.
00:19:55Fakie to finish with a fakie 5.
00:20:02So she showed us lots of spins and all different obstacles.
00:20:08A big flip on the fly box.
00:20:10Now she didn't grind any of the obstacles, if I'm not mistaken.
00:20:15But what's all the more incredible is to see her do this on a pair of adaptable skates from Powerslide.
00:20:23These are literally kid skates, which gives you an idea of the talent of this young ripper.
00:20:29She's still skating on size-adjustable skates.
00:20:32So there's no, let's say, professional model yet in her shoe size.
00:20:36No, but give her a couple of years and maybe we'll see her name on a skate.
00:20:39If she keeps on progressing this much, look at the 7.20, flawless.
00:20:45And I like that she's sticking the landing and keeping her fakie stance all the way through.
00:20:50She was cruising through the ballpark and that is pretty good indeed.
00:20:5474.75.
00:20:59First place for now.
00:21:02We got three more riders to go in this first heat.
00:21:06And then we'll go back to the top of the list for their second run.
00:21:12So still a lot can change.
00:21:14It is that best run that will count for the total score of these athletes.
00:21:18Next athlete will be from Spain.
00:21:20That is Carla Martin.
00:21:23And things will only get better because we're going in reverse order from the qualifying runs yesterday.
00:21:33So the best riders are still yet to come.
00:21:37Carla cruising through and throwing the big misty flip on the fly box.
00:21:42Saving Awa.
00:21:46Come on, Carla, come on.
00:21:47She has that FIS experience. Fifth place in Montpellier.
00:21:51And she has the cardio.
00:21:5325 seconds to go on the park.
00:21:55It's hard to keep on going after a miss like this.
00:21:58You, of course, lose a lot of speed.
00:22:00It's hard to maintain composure after a near crash.
00:22:03But yet she's still going.
00:22:06Using every chance to score some points.
00:22:08Big 7.20 here on the quarter pipe.
00:22:10And she stays on her feet.
00:22:13I think that will be it for Carla Martin.
00:22:16Maybe not the first run that she would have hoped for.
00:22:19But still on her feet all the way through those very hot 50 seconds.
00:22:29Now, Freddy, you have that contest experience as well, the competition experience.
00:22:33In a competition like this, can temperature be a deciding factor for riders?
00:22:39Like maybe someone is not as good to cope with hot temperatures than others.
00:22:43Is that something that you've seen in competition as well?
00:22:45Absolutely.
00:22:46I mean, I don't recall any specific example.
00:22:49But for sure, if you're a local and you're used to skating in that type of weather,
00:22:53this hot, humid temperature.
00:22:55I was skating in Bangkok last week.
00:22:57And for sure, the first couple of sessions, you struggle to adjust.
00:23:01And then you watch the locals and they're not breaking a sweat.
00:23:04So obviously, it takes some time to adapt.
00:23:07We've been here for a couple of days, though.
00:23:09And they've had a few open sessions and warm-up practices here on the park.
00:23:14And thankfully, it's still early in the morning.
00:23:16I can only imagine how hot it's going to get through the day.
00:23:19We don't have a single cloud in the sky right now.
00:23:22It's actually a pretty clear day here in Shanghai today.
00:23:2566.25 points for Carla.
00:23:28She grabs third place for that.
00:23:33And you're thankful we've got this umbrella to also stay fresh in the studio.
00:23:39And our cardboard box to keep the sun out of the screen.
00:23:45Next rider from Japan, Montpellier's number four.
00:23:50The World Championships from last month in Rome.
00:23:53Bronze medalist, May Miyoga.
00:23:57Forced to reckon with starting with the big front flip.
00:24:02Fishbrain stole.
00:24:04As you said, she's got quite the resume to show for a presence here.
00:24:09Going fake into the big hip.
00:24:12Too forward here in the fly box.
00:24:14And going for the grind.
00:24:16I can only assume this was a kind grind.
00:24:19And here was a sweaty.
00:24:21She comes off a little early.
00:24:23Still maintains her speed.
00:24:25I mean, that is a long grind box to grind all the way.
00:24:29Wow. Perfect alley of Fishbrain with the grab here on the coping.
00:24:33Ten more seconds to go.
00:24:35360 topsoil on the coping.
00:24:37So some technical grinds we've seen.
00:24:39The big flip to start off the run.
00:24:42And 720. Wow.
00:24:49That was a full pole run by the Japanese, May Miyoga.
00:24:53Absolutely. So now you can see why she's ranking so high.
00:24:57Why she was able to grab this bronze medal in Rome.
00:25:01She has now some experience.
00:25:03She's been around the world already.
00:25:06And always performing very well.
00:25:08Taught very well by her coach Takeshi Yasutoko.
00:25:12The vert legend out of Japan.
00:25:18And it shows.
00:25:19Look at this front flip.
00:25:21She almost over rotated and still manages to stick it.
00:25:26Going all over the course.
00:25:28Lots of power.
00:25:29Big fakie transfer into that lounge.
00:25:33And here the wonderful sweat stance.
00:25:36Wow. Posture is impeccable.
00:25:38Fully topside on that sweat stance.
00:25:41And here the alley of Fish.
00:25:45So very nice combination of grinds, spins and flips.
00:25:48Good use of the course.
00:25:50I would imagine this is going to get her quite a good score.
00:25:57Good enough for first place.
00:25:58We will see now.
00:26:0171.75.
00:26:04Second place for May.
00:26:06Definitely a solid option for the podium here.
00:26:09And maybe even the win.
00:26:10We got a second run afterwards.
00:26:13So she get a chance to improve on that first score.
00:26:16But now we're traveling to South Korea.
00:26:20With Yeon Prodigy.
00:26:25One of the youngest riders on the course today.
00:26:27Yes.
00:26:28And obviously one if not the most talented.
00:26:31She qualified first with more than 6 points lead on her next opponent.
00:26:36She was dominating in the qualifiers.
00:26:39Let's see if she can pull it together today.
00:26:42Big 540.
00:26:44Wow.
00:26:46Zero spin back rail here.
00:26:48Looking over the left shoulder.
00:26:50Maintaining speed through the run.
00:26:53We lost her for a bit but we're back on track.
00:26:57Oh.
00:26:58Near miss.
00:26:59Saved it.
00:27:00Saved it very well.
00:27:01Royale.
00:27:02Two topsoil here.
00:27:04Kind of stumbling on that switch up.
00:27:06Very hard and very technical though.
00:27:11Fakie.
00:27:12Misty on the transition.
00:27:15Ten more seconds to go.
00:27:22One last drift for you.
00:27:24Oh.
00:27:26Too bad for young Seoa.
00:27:30She had some near miss all through the run.
00:27:34At least a couple of those.
00:27:35And that definitely impacts the ability to maintain her speed and flow through the park.
00:27:41So maybe that's why she was not able to pull that 720 at the end.
00:27:46I hope she's alright.
00:27:47That was a nasty fall.
00:27:48Yeah.
00:27:50She hurt herself pretty bad on that last trick that she performed.
00:27:55Yeah.
00:27:56Came up short and landed on the edge of the fly box.
00:27:59That was a 540 where she started whip.
00:28:02Absolutely impeccable though.
00:28:04Like the form was absolutely perfect.
00:28:08And here she missed the back full torque and still managed to save it with the back toe foot.
00:28:13Only the back foot kind of went off the coping.
00:28:16She went back in.
00:28:17And here the fakie Misty well above the coping.
00:28:22Lots of tricks.
00:28:24Lots of tricks still.
00:28:25She was also the first rider to hit that pyramid box in front of the wall I think in this final.
00:28:30Yes.
00:28:31Absolutely.
00:28:32Which is also one of the removable objects because for the BMX competition that wall will be used for wall rides and stuff.
00:28:39Also the middle obstacle, the grind box, will also be removed for the other competitions.
00:28:4563 points for young Seoa.
00:28:50A bit disappointing I think.
00:28:53I hope she's fine and she manages to put her run together in the second and final passage heat.
00:29:04Next up, going back to Litalia.
00:29:08Anelim Aristogi starting off with the big front flip.
00:29:15And Royale 270 back into the quarter pipe.
00:29:19Charging.
00:29:22Going for the hip.
00:29:23I expect 720 here.
00:29:25Absolutely perfect.
00:29:31Come on Anelim.
00:29:32Go, go, go, go, go!
00:29:35Topsail here.
00:29:38And came up short again on that little A-frame box.
00:29:45Oh no!
00:29:50Unfortunately she fell on that backflip attempt and that will be it for her second run.
00:29:57So quite similar to the first and finally she fell both times at the end of her run on that backflip.
00:30:04Still a very impressive feat by Anelim.
00:30:06As you said, she's a newcomer on the World Cup scene as well.
00:30:09Absolutely.
00:30:10I had not heard of her actually until Italia, the World Skate Games last month in Roma, in Ostia.
00:30:20So always interesting to see new faces show up on the scene.
00:30:25That's also the beauty of the FIES World Series.
00:30:27Like every competition there's these new talents, new names, the old and the new.
00:30:35Absolutely.
00:30:36New faces and new tricks.
00:30:39It's just opening the ranges of what's possible on skates.
00:30:43And especially on the junior competition, on the women's competition, you see the...
00:30:50We used to see a lot of the same faces for a couple of years, especially in the women's competition.
00:30:55And the last couple of years it's exploded.
00:30:57So it's very nice and very refreshing to see the scene growing.
00:31:02Very nice and very refreshing to see the scene growing, to see the limits of the sport being pushed by those female athletes.
00:31:14And here's another of these young Japanese skaters pushing the limits of the sport.
00:31:24Being trained by one of the greats of the sport, Sorachi Kawasaki, dropping in for a second and final run.
00:31:29Flying, wow, literally flying over the box.
00:31:32She almost overshot it.
00:31:35Using all that potential energy from the highest part of the course.
00:31:42Charging through.
00:31:44Big air.
00:31:45Getting funky with the legs.
00:31:48Carving through the corner over there.
00:31:51Oh no!
00:31:54Missed the makyo on the A-frame box.
00:32:00No way!
00:32:05Still got 10 seconds to go.
00:32:12But it's so hard to get back at it after a miss.
00:32:16All your speed is gone and you have to...
00:32:20Insane!
00:32:21Missed the flip to the flat of the fly box.
00:32:25Bounced back into the landing.
00:32:30But yeah, that miss in the middle of the run, that's really cruel.
00:32:36It's really hard to put it all together after.
00:32:41Wow!
00:32:42She was flying well over that box.
00:32:46A nice stale grab here on the quad pipe.
00:32:50I would bet that she's skating quite a lot of vert in Japan.
00:32:55Which can help for a course that is that big.
00:32:59Getting used to that transition.
00:33:00Knowing how to pump through it.
00:33:05To optimize your run.
00:33:11Sending some love to the people watching at home.
00:33:15I think Japan and China time difference will be...
00:33:17I think it's one hour later in Japan right now?
00:33:19I think so, yes.
00:33:22Having lunch and watching the competition.
00:33:26So she will keep that first run score as well.
00:33:31No improvement so far.
00:33:36Two riders already have their final score.
00:33:40Both Anelim and Sorachi.
00:33:43And the highlight so far, the girl to beat is the local Chinese ripper.
00:33:49The local Chinese ripper.
00:33:51Fujii Han, all the way from Beijing.
00:33:54Came here to Shanghai to represent the local scene.
00:33:57And so far in first place, she's the girl to beat.
00:34:00Amel is going to try and do just that.
00:34:05Backtalk all the way through.
00:34:08Perfect.
00:34:09Topside points are here for the quad pipe.
00:34:13She showed us in the first run a good mix of spins and grinds.
00:34:20Eiki 360 back into the transition here.
00:34:25Another spin, using all the hips on the course.
00:34:27Really cruising through, trying to touch every obstacle.
00:34:33She's ready for the last quarter of her run.
00:34:38Futapsal lock was not exactly perfect.
00:34:41But she manages to keep on going and charging back up.
00:34:44That's the very insane part to me.
00:34:45It's like trying to finish a run all the way back to the top.
00:34:48When you have to use so much energy just to get back up there.
00:34:52That last trick was on the buzzer, so it seems.
00:34:55I guess it counts.
00:34:59What does the Federation rulebook say about the timer and ending your run?
00:35:03You would have to ask our wonderful technical consultants at World Skate.
00:35:08I think Johanne Bertonneau would have the precise answer.
00:35:11But I do believe that if she's on the way to that trick, already in the transition,
00:35:17then that would actually count.
00:35:20But here are some highlights.
00:35:21Especially that first backside torque.
00:35:29Floating all the way through that A-frame.
00:35:31That was absolutely beautiful.
00:35:33And here, the sweat stance as well.
00:35:36That's a nice French jersey. I'm not sure if I can...
00:35:40Yeah, that was unfortunately a miss on that TTS.
00:35:44The topside foot was not fully locked.
00:35:47360 here.
00:35:49And the fakie 5 to finish things off.
00:35:52What amazes me even more, she is doing this with a beautiful manicure.
00:36:00She likes to keep the outfit on point.
00:36:03Including that beautiful French jersey.
00:36:05Now a resident of Greece.
00:36:07I'm not sure I will be allowed to wear one of those, unfortunately, for my run today.
00:36:14Well, you can wear a beautiful Hellenic outfit.
00:36:18Given the heat, I'll probably be skating half naked.
00:36:22Armel Tisler improves big time on that second run.
00:36:2573.47.
00:36:28Second place.
00:36:29Second place.
00:36:31Very nice and a huge bump in the rankings.
00:36:35So far, sitting in the podium.
00:36:38Armand Pellier, number 2.
00:36:40Miyao Kaho, dropping in. 50 seconds on the line for her.
00:36:44Absolutely incredible, a young rider.
00:36:46Oh, no, no, no, no!
00:36:50Oh, that's too bad. I was looking forward to that second run so much.
00:36:55And that happened so early on in the run.
00:36:57Yeah, it's hard to bounce back from such a fall at the very start of your run.
00:37:03Starting with that hip transfer here to get the speed really flying.
00:37:09And then hitting that fly box.
00:37:11A misty flip.
00:37:13Keeping the fakie.
00:37:15Keeping it stock well.
00:37:18Yeah, that trademark belongs to Matt Mickey out of Intuition Skate Shop.
00:37:21Shout out, Mick.
00:37:25Wow!
00:37:27Hand plant. Misty flip.
00:37:29And flip 360, something like this.
00:37:33And Bornsta all the way through.
00:37:36She held it.
00:37:39And fakie 5 to finish things off.
00:37:41And that makes me regret that early fall all the more.
00:37:45Because that second part of the run was absolutely impeccable.
00:37:48She did some big flips on the course.
00:37:51She did some grinds.
00:37:52She went all the way through that A-frame and finished off with a perfect fakie 540.
00:37:58That's really, really too bad.
00:37:59Because that fall, of course, is going to impact the score big time.
00:38:03But still showing great sportsmanship by just getting back on the ramp.
00:38:08Start that run again.
00:38:11And show the crowd and the judges what she had.
00:38:17That was very, very beautiful.
00:38:20And once again, shows the progression of the sport.
00:38:23Big 540.
00:38:26Another 5.
00:38:28She really got a very nice combination of both flips and spins.
00:38:32But also, she's got the grinds on lock.
00:38:36Yeah, that hand flip.
00:38:41And lots of power.
00:38:42She's really floating through, locking that grind all the way through.
00:38:46Locking that grind all the way through to fakie.
00:38:48Back into the quarter pipe and finishing off with the fakie 5.
00:38:56She does improve her score though.
00:38:5864.66, which is saying quite a lot given that she did fall in a run.
00:39:04And that was potentially a winning run without a little mistake there.
00:39:10And now we're going back to the very top of the list.
00:39:13That's right.
00:39:14Four more riders left in this FISE World Series Shanghai Roller Freestyle World Cup.
00:39:21Representing the Chinese Federation.
00:39:24Dropping in here.
00:39:27And starting things off with a big 540.
00:39:31Keeping the fakie.
00:39:32Carving through that quarter pipe over there.
00:39:35Quarter bowl.
00:39:36And charging back up.
00:39:37Now Han currently in the lead here in this Roller Freestyle World Cup final.
00:39:42Will she improve her score and further solidify that first place?
00:39:47So far she's being very solid on the skatepark.
00:39:51She got a couple of 5s.
00:39:52Big 720 right here.
00:39:54And 50 more seconds to go to try and lace a few more tricks.
00:39:59Backside ufo here on the quarter pipe.
00:40:02Fakie 5.
00:40:03And probably her final trick right now.
00:40:07Another fakie 540.
00:40:10So a lot of spins.
00:40:13She seems to be very comfortable just flying and spinning around.
00:40:17We didn't see too many grinds.
00:40:21And I don't want to blame the skates.
00:40:23But once again these very nice transformer skates from Powerslide
00:40:26might be in this FISE World Series.
00:40:29Once again these very nice transformer skates from Powerslide
00:40:32might be in this tiny size.
00:40:34Lacking a bit of space on the groove tricks.
00:40:38Very tiny frames.
00:40:41But beautiful performance by Han Chimejou.
00:40:50And I apologize in advance if I butchered her name.
00:40:53My Chinese is not what it used to be.
00:40:56Big 5 here.
00:40:59So a couple 540s. Big 720.
00:41:02Nice run all the way through.
00:41:07Keeping the nice flow here with the fakie.
00:41:09Back into the hip.
00:41:12And stayed on her feet throwing tricks all the way till the final buzzer.
00:41:16So will it be enough to improve her score?
00:41:19The Chinese sensation.
00:41:21Currently sitting in first place.
00:41:23Currently sitting in first place.
00:41:29She does not.
00:41:32She does not. Very similar score on both runs.
00:41:35The first one will stay.
00:41:39So we got three more competitors.
00:41:43All with a chance to improve on the first run and take the first spot.
00:41:48Three more riders that have a chance to jump over Han Chimejou.
00:41:53Thanks for checking out that illegal translate tool that you have on your phone.
00:41:59Next up, the heat from Spain.
00:42:02Carla Martin.
00:42:04Well known face here at FISE.
00:42:07She's been competing now for several years.
00:42:10She's got a nice combination of technical spins like this misty flip right here.
00:42:14Oh no, no, no.
00:42:16Carla.
00:42:17Carla.
00:42:19The spin was absolutely flawless but she kind of, I don't know, missed a little bit on the landing.
00:42:26We'll have to see it in the slow-mo replay.
00:42:28But first, 20 more seconds for Carla.
00:42:30On the clock, on the timer.
00:42:32Soul grind all the way through.
00:42:37Halifizou here.
00:42:39On the coping.
00:42:41Ten more seconds to go.
00:42:43And 7.20.
00:42:45She does not land that one either.
00:42:49That's crushing, crushingly hard to fall on that last trick.
00:42:58So that probably means Carla is going to stick with that score from her first run.
00:43:04I would imagine so. That's too bad.
00:43:08So you were asking how much does the heat and the humidity especially in that Shanghai weather impact the performance.
00:43:18What happened here?
00:43:20Oh, she got a little bit of speed wobbles here.
00:43:24Charging through the puck.
00:43:28Yeah, something went wrong.
00:43:30Obviously, I don't want to point at the hardware.
00:43:33But she got some speed wobbles and didn't maintain the composure on that fakie landing.
00:43:40So obviously, we stick with the first score, which is good enough for fourth place so far.
00:43:47Her last best result was the fifth in Montpellier.
00:43:51So that means she's going to improve on that one.
00:43:54But first, we'll be checking on Japanese Mei Miyoga, bronze medalist from the World Championships just last month in Rome.
00:44:01And the number four from FIS Montpellier.
00:44:05Beautiful style and beautiful tricks starting with the big front flip.
00:44:09And this time, the landing is absolutely flawless.
00:44:12Fishbrain stole right there.
00:44:14Going all in, trying to take that gold medal back home.
00:44:20Improving through a very nice run so far.
00:44:23Nice amplitude, nice spin.
00:44:25Kind grind, absolutely perfect.
00:44:27The stance is...
00:44:28Wow, and she does a sweat scent all the way through.
00:44:31So far, this is a huge improvement on the first run.
00:44:33She's really putting it all together.
00:44:3517 seconds to go.
00:44:37Alley-oop Fishbrain, once again, perfect.
00:44:41Wow, this is the performance we're all waiting to see.
00:44:43270 topsoil, 360 topsoil here on the quarter pipe.
00:44:46We got five more seconds, one last trick, then a chance to take the gold.
00:44:50Mei Miyoga with a 720, and she stays on her feet.
00:44:53Hell yes, score to beat 75 points and one absolutely amazing performance by Mei Miyoga.
00:45:00After a slip-up in that first run, she just pulled the most perfect run here on the West Bund in Shanghai.
00:45:07Mei Miyoga doing it for Japan.
00:45:11And doing it for the local scene and her coach, Takeshi Yasutoko, who must be very proud watching us live now.
00:45:18Starting off with this perfect front flip.
00:45:22I mean, literally, I could say this for every trick, because every trick was absolutely flawless.
00:45:27That sweaty all the way through that A-frame with the little angle,
00:45:31keeping it topside all the way through.
00:45:33Alley-oop Fishbrain with the grab.
00:45:37This was very, very impressive.
00:45:40And the amount of speed and amplitude she carried all the way through that run
00:45:43was also one of the factors that the judges are looking for.
00:45:46And this is the only near-miss in a run on the final buzzer.
00:45:51But she stayed on her feet, and I would imagine the judges are going to be a little more lenient
00:45:56when it comes to scoring that one.
00:45:58Score to beat 75 points, as you could see, a lot of big tricks in those highlights.
00:46:04Will it be enough?
00:46:06Those wheels were holding up for dear life on that last fakie maneuver.
00:46:10Absolutely, she knows.
00:46:12She knows that a fall at that very moment would probably cost her that gold medal.
00:46:16But now she is in the mix.
00:46:20She is very much in the mix to take that gold medal home.
00:46:23That will be up to Blake, Pascal, CJ and Kanashima in the judging booth right now.
00:46:31A lot of pressure on the shoulder.
00:46:33Thankfully, we don't have to make these kind of decisions.
00:46:3578 points for May.
00:46:38She takes first place.
00:46:40But the contest is not finished yet.
00:46:43Absolutely not.
00:46:44Because if anything, this is now a battle of the coaches.
00:46:49May being coached by Takeshi from Japan, Takeshi Yasutako, the legend.
00:46:55And now Yang Seowha being coached by our friend Kevin from Korea.
00:46:59These are probably two of the best coaches all around the world when it comes to inline skating,
00:47:04These are probably two of the best coaches all around the world when it comes to inline skating,
00:47:07teaching the basics and the highly technical maneuvers.
00:47:13Now it's time for Yang to show us what she's got.
00:47:17After a slip-up in that first run, she's here for redemption.
00:47:21Perfect 540.
00:47:23Zero-spin back rail on the A-frame.
00:47:25Indeed, she's the only one touching that obstacle in the whole competition.
00:47:29Wow, flat spin 360 on the quadruped with high amplitude.
00:47:34Stopping for half a second here on top of the fly box.
00:47:37540 on the quadruped.
00:47:39She's putting a lot of tricks together.
00:47:43360 topsoil as well.
00:47:45This was one of the highlights for May.
00:47:47So she's going tricks for tricks.
00:47:49Try 360 topsoil again.
00:47:59And fakie 5.
00:48:00A few more seconds.
00:48:01I think that will be it.
00:48:05And 720.
00:48:06Well after the bother though.
00:48:08I don't think this one will count.
00:48:13So still in the hot seat right now is the Japanese May Miura.
00:48:17But, I mean that was a very strong performance as well.
00:48:22She did manage after that terrible fall in the first run.
00:48:27She managed to put it all together and bring us the very best she could on this skate park.
00:48:33The very best she could do on the skate park.
00:48:36It's a very nice side flip of flat spin 360.
00:48:40Way high over the coping.
00:48:46360 topsoil.
00:48:49But now the medal and trophy for the winner.
00:48:52We'll find out if it's going to be a flight back to South Korea.
00:48:56Or a flight to the land of the rising sun, Japan.
00:49:01Where is that medal going?
00:49:03Let's see.
00:49:04That 720 if I'm correct came after the final buzzer.
00:49:08So might not count but definitely a nice highlight to re-watch with all of you here.
00:49:17And that was it.
00:49:18So now the pressure is off the shoulders of the riders.
00:49:23And it's all on our judges.
00:49:27Takeshi-san in the tribunes overlooking the course.
00:49:33Waiting for the result of his young protege.
00:49:38We already have the men getting ready for their qualification today.
00:49:43Yes, absolutely. Qualification run today.
00:49:46And she does improve on her score I believe and bumps in second place.
00:49:52And that means we have an all-Asian podium.
00:49:57Very nice, very nice.
00:49:59And you can see the joy of our riders.
00:50:03The joy of the coach as well. Very proud Takeshi here.
00:50:07Everyone is stoked for each other.
00:50:09So Han Kimuji will take the bronze back to Beijing.
00:50:15The silver medal will go with Yang Seowha.
00:50:21But that gold medal, the World Cup win here in Shanghai is for Mei Wiyoga.
00:50:30Japanese protege.
00:50:32She performed very well in past events.
00:50:35We kind of know now what she's capable of.
00:50:38But she's stepping it up every time.
00:50:40Stepping it up every time.
00:50:41This was probably the most beautiful run I've seen her perform here
00:50:45on one of those FISE events that we've had all throughout the year
00:50:49and these past years as well.
00:50:52And a very nice score. 78 points. Very nice performance.
00:50:58And if we look back at FISE Montpellier, we have Carla Martin
00:51:02finishing in fifth again.
00:51:04Mei Wiyoga, Montpellier fourth.
00:51:06Now here the gold medal win.
00:51:11So yeah, when it comes to the World Series themselves,
00:51:13the overall rankings, I am not sure if we'll get to get an update on that.
00:51:19But that will be interesting to see how these scores compile.
00:51:23Now let's take a look at the highlights of this finals.
00:51:29So we started off with some big flips and the level kept on rising
00:51:33all throughout the event.
00:51:35Just as the heat is rising up here on the West Pond.
00:53:05Wow.
00:53:30It baffles me how she held on to that one.
00:53:33Because she knew a gold medal was waiting for her at the end.
00:53:41So that was our first competition, our first televised competition
00:53:45here this weekend at the FISE World Series of Shanghai.
00:53:48That was the World Skate Roller Freestyle Park Final
00:53:51in the women's category.
00:53:53Now we still have tons of action coming on this weekend.
00:53:56We still have BMX freestyle park, braking, flatland, skateboard
00:54:00and scooter riding.
00:54:02But in March next year, we already have the next V-Split.
00:54:06And then we are going to the city of Macau for the Battle of Champions.
00:54:13You've never been to Macau, Freddy?
00:54:15I have not.
00:54:17From what I've heard, it's a beautiful place to go.
00:54:19It's the entertainment city in China.
00:54:22That's the only thing I know about it.
00:54:25It's the place to go if you're looking to have a good time.
00:54:31Macau, China
00:54:50It is the FISE Battle of the Champions.
00:54:52This is the big show.
00:54:54Are you ready to meet these riders?
00:55:00Macau, China
00:55:02Macau, China
00:55:04Macau, China
00:55:06Macau, China
00:55:29So that was our teaser for the FISE Battle of Champions in Macau.
00:55:35That will be an invitational contest just for skateboarding
00:55:39with a €70,000 prize purse.
00:55:42First place is going to win €10,000.
00:55:46That sounds like a healthy prize pot.
00:55:50Alright, so I guess Macau is the place to be in March.
00:55:54I'd love to see...
00:55:56You're going to be live?
00:55:58I'm not sure yet if they'll invite me over to Macau, but we'll see.
00:56:04I hope you do, because I can't wait to hear your voice on the other side of the screen this time.
00:56:10Can you imagine winning that contest?
00:56:12€10,000 and then you're flying back home.
00:56:14Nothing to declare, sir?
00:56:16No, just a €10,000 prize purse and this big gold medal.
00:56:21You probably have to hide the medal.
00:56:25And probably if you gamble all that money before you leave the island,
00:56:28you might just come back.
00:56:34We still have crowds coming in, because after this, there's BMX.
00:56:40But first, we're going to listen to AJ honoring our winner.
00:56:44Alright, competition's complete.
00:56:46We're about to finish up with our podium here in beautiful Shanghai.
00:56:51First, we will go over the people handing out our prizes today.
00:56:55For third place, it will be the Deputy General Manager of the West Bond, Chen Anda.
00:57:02Second place, the Technical Delegate of World Skate, roller freestyle, Johan Bertano.
00:57:09And handing out our first place medal, the Director of Sports Bureau of the Xigui District, Zhang Ying.
00:57:17So, without further delay, let's get into our podium.
00:57:22Our third place podium finisher, from Beijing,
00:57:28Timuga Po!
00:57:51So that bronze medal is going back to Beijing.
00:57:58Our second place podium finisher, from Korea, Jang Soo Ah!
00:58:29Our second place podium finisher, from Korea, Jong Sae Rang!
00:58:41Lots of hearts, lots of smiles.
00:58:43Great performance by the young Korean.
00:58:47Getting the trophy handed by Johan Bertano.
00:58:59And Shanghai, make some noise!
00:59:03We have our fifth Shanghai World Skate Champion!
00:59:09It is Mei Miyoga from Japan!
00:59:15Let's welcome our champion, Mei Miyoga from Japan!
00:59:31Next up is the Director of Sports Bureau of the Xigui District, Ms. Zhang Ying.
00:59:45And let's see if we can have a little talk with Mei, maybe.
01:00:03And that is our podium at this World Skate Roller Freestyle World Cup.
01:00:09So once again, Han, Kimuji, Jang Soo Ah.
01:00:13And the winner, the first place, Mei Miyoga.
01:00:19An all-Asian podium which shows the strength of these emerging scenes on the worldwide contest series.
01:00:32We had some well-known faces from France and Spain, for instance,
01:00:36that were trying their best to get on the podium, but they were not letting go of these three first places.
01:00:45So we'll have some photos now, and a lot of smiles again.
01:00:52And now on, let's say, the World Skate World Cup, what's the next event, let's say?
01:00:58I think this is the closer for federation sanctions events here in Shanghai for this year.
01:01:06Yes, absolutely. Any ideas for 2025 yet?
01:01:10I haven't received the schedule yet.
01:01:15So let's listen to our winner, Mei Miyoga.
01:01:20All right, we are here with our champion, Mei Miyoga.
01:01:24Mei, how do you feel having won your first beast competition, and is there anyone you would like to thank?
01:01:36We have a translator helping out as well.
01:01:39I'm so happy!
01:01:53She said, I'm so happy to win in Shanghai.
01:01:58And she always said, thank you for your supporters, and parents, and friends, and cheers.
