00:00Anthony, we know a fair bit about the overall make-up of the Assembly, but what are some
00:07of those final results that we're still working through?
00:10You always get that final distribution within each party ticket.
00:14In Murrumbidgee we've got Ed Cox and Armdeep Singh very close for the second Liberal seat.
00:20And in Brindabella, Mick Gentleman.
00:21It may well be that Labor has two new members with Joy Birch retiring and Mick Gentleman
00:26looks like he's going to be defeated there, but it will take further counting to be certain.
00:30Much has been made of the Greens' performance at this election, losing half their seats.
00:36But how has the party's vote held up overall?
00:39The Greens' vote was slightly down, but it's still their third best result in ACT history.
00:44The thing about the Greens was they only just got to six seats last time.
00:47It was quite a surprise.
00:49It took only a small decrease in their vote to cost them half their seats.
00:53And that's exactly what happened.
00:55But they still have a very strong base.
00:57The significant thing that's come out of this election is the emergence of the independence
01:00for Canberra.
01:01For the first time in two decades we've got someone other than Labor, Liberal and Green
01:06in the Assembly.
01:07That plays into the future politics of the ACT, but also indicates that continuing trend
01:11in Australia that voters are looking for an alternative to the other parties and a credible
01:16independent has a good chance of getting elected.
