00:00Good to see you again.
00:01So, Skye Riley is a pop singer.
00:05Did your music career influence on how you approach the character?
00:13Certainly, making music and the process of making music is very helpful
00:23when that is what you have to do for a movie.
00:27The studio is an environment that I'm comfortable with and familiar with.
00:33And also just the idea of how to create a character, even within music.
00:41I think that was very helpful for me, yeah.
00:44The first SMILE movie was a huge success.
00:48What can the fans expect this time?
00:53I think you can definitely expect everything you loved about the first movie.
00:57But it's just bigger and bolder and more unhinged and an injection of pop
01:06and just also funny and, yeah, just the most fun.
01:13And what was the biggest challenge for you making this film?
01:18I think the biggest challenge was maintaining the energy
01:25to allow myself to have enough in the tank to bring my best to every moment of the movie.
01:35That was the challenge for me.
01:38And how was working with Parker? How is he as a director?
01:43Parker is so fantastic.
01:45He is truly the most enthusiastic, intense, creative person that I've worked with.
01:53He is in the best way.
01:55He really pushes you in a way that gets a fantastic,
01:59makes you feel like you are really at the end of yourself in the best way.
02:04But also there was just always such a mutual respect there
02:08and a trust that I think we had from the outset
02:11that really carried us through something that was very intense.
02:15And we were able to maintain that.
02:19And we were partners, you know.
02:21I relied on him and I leant on him to help me meet to the performance.
02:28And where was Sky at?
02:29He's someone that understands his movie so well, even when we're shooting.
02:34I don't think there's one thing that we shot or one scene that we shot that's not in the movie,
02:39which is not always the case.
02:41So he is an incredible visionary and I love working with him.
02:46Also explores the darker side of fame.
02:51How does Sky's journey reflect the pressure of being in the spotlight?
03:01I think fame is kind of like fuel to a fire
03:09in the sense that Sky is going through what she's going through
03:14and she really needs to stop and remove herself.
03:20And she needs some obscurity in her life.
03:24And I think that even the idea of being perceived so intensely
03:30and the world projecting back to you a version of yourself
03:37that maybe you don't even recognize
03:39I think can really cause feelings of feeling misunderstood and isolation.
03:48I think in Sky's case in particular, not having people around her
03:54who can really be brave enough to just be like,
03:57no, absolutely not, we're not doing that.
04:00You need to work on yourself.
04:03And unfortunately, there's a lot riding on this tour.
04:06There's a lot of money.
04:07There's a lot of people.
04:08There's a lot of jobs.
04:09And so of course there comes the pressure for her to just carry on.
04:13I think also not having people around her
04:19who are purely there just for her
04:24and who care about her without conditions.
04:28And then also just what we project onto people, right?
04:32Just all of us.
04:33We all do it.
04:34I think it's an interesting conversation around that too.
