00:00So there's this camera that went viral on TikTok and people wanted it so much it was out of stock
00:05everywhere. Like I ended up finding the same camera in Cambodia of all places. We were getting insane
00:11prices for secondhand devices. It was crazy. All that despite the camera being released in like
00:162020. When the Fujifilm X100V went viral, like so many people wanted this camera. People just
00:22loved how this camera looked, how compact it was, and for those unfamiliar with Fujifilm cameras or
00:28Fujifilm film simulations, people loved how these cameras had filters. All this was like last year
00:35and this year, four years after the Fujifilm X100V was released, we're getting an update.
00:41Say hello to the Fujifilm X106 and as you can imagine, this camera has very big shoes to fill.
00:47Good day, you beautiful people. Welcome to Sedan's Tech where we do tech in your life in style.
01:00The Fujifilm X106 is official and yes, this video is being shot on the very same camera. I'm very
01:07excited because the viral Fujifilm X100V has a successor and yes, I was able to spend a few days
01:14with this camera pre-launch. In this video, we're gonna look at the Fujifilm X106. We're gonna see
01:20what's new, we're gonna see what's changed. I'm gonna show you some samples that I took with this
01:24camera and we're even gonna look at if this specific camera can replicate my workflow as a
01:29content creator. Take note, not just as someone who takes photos but also someone who takes videos
01:35and yes, I do shoot with a Fuji and I shoot most of my stuff with a 23mm so this is
01:40actually perfect. But before anything else, let's get through the unboxing.
02:41So what's new with the Fujifilm X106 or as we see written down X100VI which is actually
03:01quite clever because the Fujifilm X100V or technically it's the Fujifilm X105 because of
03:07its virality, it rings a bell to a lot of people even those who weren't into Fuji before this
03:12camera and now you have the Fujifilm X106 or if you see it in stores or if you see it in the box,
03:18it's Fujifilm X100VI. Anyway, so on this camera, new big things include a new 40.2 megapixel sensor
03:27and this thing now reps an X-Processor 5. Now of course on this channel, we're not just gonna look
03:32at the specs so let me explain that to you. This camera now has the same sensor and processor as
03:38the Fujifilm X-T5. The next thing is what I'm super excited about. This now has stabilization.
03:45So 5-axis 6-stop stabilization on the Fujifilm X106 and for context, that's the same stabilization
03:51that I have on my Fujifilm X-S10. This new camera also has the Reala Ace film simulation. So this
03:59was first announced when the GFX102 was launched and Reala Ace, we actually thought that this was
04:05only possible because of the 102 megapixel sensor on that top tier Fujifilm camera but guess what?
04:11It's here. I'm also going to be showing you some Reala Ace samples later on in the video and also
04:16you guys already know that this thing is capable of 4k recording because again, I'm recording this
04:22very video on the Fujifilm X106 but this thing now can also do 6.2k 30fps video recording.
04:31All these big things but we get the same compact fixed lens form factor. That's actually pretty
04:36good. Anyway, let's take a closer look at this camera. So here we have the Fuji X106. Up here,
04:45you have the name and it does look and feel like the X100V. It is a little heavier and bigger,
04:54I'm told, but you don't really feel that. Size-wise, it's still so handy. It fits my Polen Unano.
05:02And before you say anything, yes, I tried and yes, I really like tiny purses. So again, this thing
05:08looks really, really good. The top and the bottom uses aluminum and apparently, anodized aluminum
05:16is used on the surface of this camera. You get the same fixed 23mm f2 lens on this and yes,
05:24look closely, that's still a leaf shutter. That really just sounds so satisfying always. So like
05:31the previous camera, this does have a built-in ND filter and now it works on video. Up front here,
05:37you get a dial and then you get this little button switch here. And what this is for,
05:42it's for the hybrid EVF-OVF and switching this does change from optical to electronic as you
05:49can see here. And this is what that looks like when you're peering into the viewfinder. In true
05:55Fuji fashion, you get the same dial. So the shutter is over here. You get your exposure settings.
06:03You get this, wait, you get this tiny little button that does face detection or not. You also
06:12get your shutter settings up here and this has always been fun for me, the ISO settings. See that
06:20nifty little dial? You get your drive delete button. So this is how you can switch between
06:27your different modes. You get your focus or exposure lock button. You get another dial here.
06:34A little quick settings button. Your joystick. Can you see there? That's a better look. Menu.
06:41You have your play button. You also have your display button which gives you different, well,
06:48display options. On the side, you get your little focus switch. On this side, you get a mini HDMI,
06:55USB charging, and a mic remote or an audio jack but like it's the tiny one. And you also get the
07:02same battery from the X100V. This is also the same battery I use on my Fujifilm X-S10. And of course,
07:12another thing is you get the same tilt screen. So that means you can shoot from low angles or you
07:20can shoot from really high angles. The X106, just like the X100V, is also weather sealed. Well, except
07:27for the lens. But again, you can get an adapter to make sure that the thing is fully weather sealed.
07:35The video you're seeing right now is being shot with the Reala Ace filter. Now, this might look
07:40different to my usual videos because I actually use a different film simulation when I shoot my
07:45stuff. I use Velvia. Yes, folks. For people asking me why my videos and my content look a certain way,
07:50that's because I shoot with Velvia or Vivid on a Fuji camera. Anyway, I digress. Let me just know
07:56that all the samples you're about to see were all shot with the Reala Ace film simulation and all of
08:02them are straight out of camera. Okay, so let's take some samples.
08:32I absolutely love how handy this camera is. It's just such a nice thing to bring around and carry.
08:50I mean, I love the X100V and I got really amazing photos out of that camera. I mean, my boyfriend
08:56took really amazing photos of me with that camera. Same, same. But the thing is, I ended up not keeping
09:01the X100V because I couldn't justify it in my current setup. Aside from photos, as a content
09:07creator, I shoot a lot of videos and the fact that the X100V did not have stabilization was a really
09:14big deal breaker for me. I mean, I'm not about to shoot movies with this camera but the fact that I
09:19wouldn't be able to get nice video footage from it, especially when I'm out and about, which is when I
09:24would want to be using this more compact camera, was just a no-no. But friends, like we know from
09:30this video, the X106 does have stabilization and it's the first from the X100 series to have
09:37stabilization. So, I'm like, this could work. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm a Fujifilm user and I grew
09:43my channel on a Fujifilm X-T20. I currently shoot my videos with a Fujifilm X-S10 with a 23mm
09:50as a staple. So, my question now becomes, can the Fujifilm X106 replace my current camera setup?
09:58And some of you may argue that the Fujifilm X-S10 is already a tiny camera so there's no need for
10:03me to replace it. But guys, look at me. I'm a very tiny person and I like really tiny purses and so
10:08if I can downsize, I will and I would. I still find the Fujifilm X-S10 a little bulky for my
10:15shooting adventures. And also yes, I'm fully aware that this compact fixed lens camera is not really
10:21a vlogging camera or not really marketed as a vlogging camera nor do I think it's made for
10:26video mainly but we're pushing it in this video. And third point, I know that I've only had limited
10:31time with this camera and it would be amazing if I could test this out for a longer amount of time
10:36but we're talking about my impressions nonetheless because I mean, how much time do you get with a
10:41camera before you decide on purchasing it, right? Anyway, back to the question, can this camera
10:46replace my current setup? I already see a couple of issues with this camera if I decide to use it
10:52as my one and only camera. First of all, the fact that it does not have a flip out screen. This is
10:56currently how I'm looking at the screen like I have a mirror behind the camera. Number two, the audio
11:03jack on this thing has that tinier hole so you need an adapter to plug in the mic. Gotta say, it's looking
11:09a little awkward there. But I mean, I'm honestly no stranger to this problem because when I was
11:13shooting with the X-S20, this was my setup. That's why I have an adapter like I did not have a flip
11:17out screen. I did not have a proper audio jack that would plug into normal mics. And then
11:23another thing, this camera, you won't be able to open the battery compartment if and when it's
11:29already mounted on a plate. Even those tiny arca plates, you wouldn't be able to access your
11:34battery if it's already screwed onto your camera. The thing is, I've dealt with these very same
11:40problems once upon a time. When I used to shoot my videos on the X-T20, they're all solvable but
11:45as a content creator, they can be very annoying and they just slow down your production process.
11:51Another thing is, despite stabilization and autofocus, like good autofocus too because
11:57it also has AI autofocus that allows you to recognize animals like dogs. It should be able
12:05to detect all of these and well, I have animals in the room. Let's see how that works. Is it detecting?
12:12Ah! Oh my gosh, I autofocus for doggies. This dog is not, oh, this dog is not the most
12:21cooperative dog. Oh, there we go. Okay, let's see. Wait. Ah! So it detects the whole dog and then
12:33oh, do you see that square? It literally detects puppy over here.
12:39And that was the autofocus I'm shooting with the Fuji X100 VI or X100 VI. And this is on IBIS and
12:48DIS. It also is on video boost which is supposed to be the mode you use for handheld shots. We're
12:53also looking at eye autofocus right now. Let's look at that again. This is Chu sleeping.
13:01And this is me. This is also how audio on the internal mics of the camera would sound inside,
13:08well, a quiet room. It's just way too tight of a screen to walk and talk with. Walking and talking
13:15with the Fujifilm X100 VI. This is what that looks like.
13:21This is what that looks like.
13:26On the other hand, for a roll like this, it looks just amazing. But despite all that,
13:32faster remains that one it is doable. Like again, this video is shot with the X100 VI.
13:38When I say that I shoot most things on a 23mm lens on an APS-C camera, I'm not even kidding
13:43because when I do travel and I'm forced to pick which lens to use, I would have the 23mm. And
13:49it's only really recently that I've been experimenting with different lenses but for
13:53the most part, again, same lens so I don't have a problem with this being a fixed lens camera.
13:58And the fact of this having a 23mm lens actually works really well for me because I'll be able to
14:04get the shots I want. Those high quality shots with really nice bokeh, like I could never replicate
14:10that nice creamy bokeh b-roll look with the tiny cameras that I do bring when I travel like the
14:16Osmo Pocket 3 or the Insta360 Ace Pro. No matter how good those cameras are, they just have a
14:21different look. And all in all, I was just pretty sold on how this was able to shoot handheld b-roll
14:27already. And I mean, we already know that this camera can take great photos. Now, another thing
14:32in terms of video content creation with this camera that I saw but was not able to test,
14:38there's supposedly a feature which allows this camera to use Frame.io and directly upload footage
14:44to the cloud so that it's easier for you to edit. I'm gonna try that later. So all those things
14:49considered, the big question is, can it replace my current setup? Well, yes and no. The Fujifilm X-S10
14:56is still definitely a better video camera in terms of the stuff I do because of the flip out screen
15:02and ease of use and the fact that it really is designed to be a vlogging camera. But that being
15:07said, when I'm traveling and I want something handy, I want something small that I can shoot
15:13nice b-roll with, nice photos with, and in a pinch shoot aero like this with, the Fujifilm X106
15:20can and will work. Again, look at this video you're watching. If I'm out shooting, if I'm out traveling,
15:26this is definitely the camera to reach for. All this being said, I know it's been like three days
15:31but I'm pretty sold on this camera. I'm definitely getting this as like a second camera for when I
15:35travel or when I'm doing shoots where I want something tinier which is like all the time
15:40really when I'm out of the house. This camera reminds me of that saying that the best camera
15:44is the one that's on you. You guys know I'm a fan of like tinier vlogging cameras but I feel
15:49like the Fujifilm X106 is a great compromise between like size and getting that high quality
15:56output that I just really want for my own content. Right, that's it for today. Let me know what you
16:01think about our Fujifilm X106 preview. Let me know if you have questions. All details I have
16:07on pricing and availability, I'll leave in the description box below. If you want to see how I
