00:00:00Dear service member, I hope this card finds you in good health and preparing to enjoy
00:00:07the holidays.
00:00:09At this time of year, I always reflect on what I can be thankful for.
00:00:14I was raised in a loving home by wonderful parents.
00:00:18My folks, Rosie and Luke, send their Christmas greetings to you along with wine.
00:00:22Nevada City has been home to the Spellman family for three generations.
00:00:27I could have left, but everything that was important to me was here.
00:00:32Our lives are not about things.
00:00:33Family and friends, people, are at the heart of it.
00:00:38You won't find a chain store or mall around here, and that suits us just fine.
00:00:45Our local church organizes Operation Christmas Card every year for our troops overseas.
00:00:50The church is at the center for many of our activities and social events, and the doors
00:00:54are open 24 hours a day to anyone.
00:00:58Believe me, you have many friends here, you just haven't met them yet.
00:01:03I'm sure being far from your loved ones weighs heavy on your heart.
00:01:08I know a little about that.
00:01:10When I met my boyfriend, he was everything I was looking for.
00:01:15Since then, his business has kept us living far from one another.
00:01:21I'll bet you'll be back with your family long before he and I live in the same zip code.
00:01:47Hey!
00:01:49Hey, Sarge.
00:01:52What are you up to, Jones?
00:01:53Hey, how about snapping a photo, Chief?
00:01:58Where'd you boys get those hats?
00:01:59From the dancers at the USO show.
00:02:05A Christmas card for you from our admirers back in the States.
00:02:09The church crew from my home sent us all Christmas cards.
00:02:12Give it to one of the boys that didn't make the show.
00:02:14Can't do that, Sarge.
00:02:15The army entrusted me with the assignment of giving you this card.
00:02:20This card?
00:02:42If you're ever out west, please come visit us.
00:02:45We'd love to thank you in person for your service and sacrifice.
00:02:50I speak for everyone in Nevada City when I say that we are grateful to you
00:02:54for making sure that we're safe and secure.
00:02:59I'm attaching a photo of our church.
00:03:02Know that the lights there are burning for all of you tonight
00:03:05in the hope that next Christmas you'll be home and the world will be at peace.
00:03:11You're in our thoughts, and you're in our prayers.
00:03:15With loving best wishes for the season,
00:03:18Faith Spellman.
00:03:22Did you get a nice Christmas card, Team Sword?
00:03:25I did, Jonesy. Thank you.
00:03:27Looks like you've got quite a handful of goodies there.
00:03:30My fiancée Liddy would like you to have a cookie.
00:03:32She would, would she?
00:03:33Said so herself.
00:03:38Thank her for me.
00:03:41This is her most recent photo.
00:03:44She gets prettier every day.
00:03:46You're a lucky man.
00:03:48Merry Christmas, Sarge.
00:03:50Merry Christmas.
00:04:04Man, I don't know about you, Lewis, but I did not sign up for this.
00:04:08You got that right, brother.
00:04:11Hey, me and Liddy picked a date last night.
00:04:15Nice.
00:04:16Valentine's Day.
00:04:17Congratulations, Jonesy.
00:04:19Thanks.
00:04:20Liddy and I would like you to be there.
00:04:23Incoming!
00:04:32Jonesy, get out of there!
00:04:34Let it go, man, go!
00:04:39Jonesy!
00:04:40Let me dump Sanders now!
00:04:45First squad, secure that hill!
00:04:47We'll be fine, buddy.
00:04:48Come on.
00:04:50Vito, get a medvac.
00:04:51You'll be all right, Jonesy.
00:04:53That means you'll be okay, buddy.
00:04:55We have six troops in the open.
00:05:08We're on the roadside.
00:05:09On call.
00:05:10Leader.
00:05:11Two, seven, four, eight.
00:05:13Niner, zero, three, five, six.
00:05:16At ease, Mr. St. Cullen.
00:05:22Mind if I sit and talk a sec?
00:05:24Please, sir.
00:05:28I'm sorry to hear about Sergeant Jones.
00:05:32Lousy luck.
00:05:34It was, sir.
00:05:35You're about to rotate home.
00:05:37I'm thinking of extending, sir.
00:05:39I think you need to take some leave, Cullen.
00:05:45Look, Jones wasn't your fault.
00:05:48Time for some R&R, and that's an order, Sergeant.
00:05:52I need you to do something for me.
00:05:59There's a young widow, stateside, that needs these.
00:06:07And while you're home, don't think about the Army.
00:06:10Think about your life.
00:06:13What you want.
00:06:14Your family.
00:06:17A career out of this uniform we wear.
00:06:22I've stood watch a long time now.
00:06:26Maybe it's time to find out what's next.
00:06:51I love you.
00:07:21Hello, Liddy.
00:07:22Sergeant Cullen.
00:07:26I would have recognized you anywhere.
00:07:28Jones used to send me pictures of you all.
00:07:32I would have given my life for him, if I had the chance.
00:07:40I came here because I wanted to tell you.
00:07:44He really loved you.
00:07:51I love you.
00:08:22Howdy.
00:08:23Afternoon.
00:08:27What can I get for you?
00:08:29You have chicken salad club?
00:08:31Curly fries?
00:08:32Extra crispy.
00:08:34White wheat or rye?
00:08:35Rye.
00:08:36And hot chocolate.
00:08:37Marshmallows?
00:08:38Even better.
00:08:42How you doing?
00:08:45Do you know where the latrine is?
00:08:47Do you know where the latrine is?
00:09:03Hey, Bill.
00:09:06Molly!
00:09:17Can I get some ketchup?
00:09:20Thanks.
00:09:29Mmm.
00:09:30Molly!
00:09:33I thought I ordered it to go.
00:09:34Faith, that isn't yours.
00:09:37Whose is it?
00:09:41It's his.
00:09:43It's his.
00:09:46You ordered a chicken salad club on rye with crispy curly fries and hot chocolate with marshmallows?
00:09:55Yeah.
00:09:56I'm so sorry.
00:09:58What are the odds?
00:09:59Oh, yeah.
00:10:00That never happens.
00:10:03Let me get you some of my fries.
00:10:05It's okay, really.
00:10:06It's fine.
00:10:13Jesus.
00:10:16Come on!
00:10:18I've got to go.
00:10:21I'm sorry about the fries.
00:10:24Oh, Merry Christmas.
00:10:26Merry Christmas.
00:10:43Merry Christmas.
00:10:56Good afternoon.
00:10:58Oh, good afternoon.
00:10:59What can I do for you?
00:11:01I was hoping you had a room available.
00:11:03Yes, quite a few, actually, but that's only for tonight.
00:11:06After that, I'm filled up through Christmas.
00:11:08One night will be fine, ma'am.
00:11:09Oh, good.
00:11:10Then I'll have you fill this out if you don't mind.
00:11:14So, are you visiting folks for the holiday?
00:11:16No.
00:11:18I'm just passing through.
00:11:19Well, then we'll have to do our best to impress you quickly, won't we?
00:11:23Breakfast is at eight.
00:11:25I was thinking of attending church in the morning.
00:11:27It's right at the top of the hill.
00:11:29We could sit together, if you'd like, I mean.
00:11:31Oh, ma'am, that'd be great.
00:11:34Your keys are in there.
00:12:05Oh, tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy.
00:12:14Oh, tidings of comfort and joy.
00:12:32Morning, Bill.
00:12:33Hi.
00:12:34Dennis, Phyllis, good to see you.
00:12:37Hi there.
00:12:38Welcome, welcome.
00:12:40Oh, morning, son.
00:12:41Morning.
00:12:42Nice shine on those shoes.
00:12:44Thank you, sir.
00:12:45Oh, I bet you're the visitor that Selma wants to sit next to.
00:12:49Yes, sir, she's quite the host.
00:12:51Oh, you couldn't pick a finer church.
00:12:53It's beautiful.
00:12:54What's your name?
00:12:55Cody Cullen, sir.
00:12:56Deacon of the month, Luke Spellman.
00:12:59It's a real honor to meet you, sir.
00:13:01Honor?
00:13:03I guess you haven't caught wind of my reputation.
00:13:21Good morning.
00:13:22Good morning.
00:13:24There's an old Hebrew saying, be kind to strangers.
00:13:28By doing so, we may be entertaining one of God's angels.
00:13:32So we'd like to welcome and warmly greet any of you who might be a stranger among us,
00:13:37who are here visiting for the first time.
00:13:39Any visitors, please stand at this time.
00:13:42Come on, Cody, stand up.
00:13:43We want to make you feel welcome, make you feel at home here in God's house on this fine holiday season.
00:13:49Welcome, young man.
00:13:50Welcome, sir.
00:13:58And we'd like to invite you for refreshments after the service.
00:14:00All right, let's sing number 240, Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
00:14:30Hark the triumph of the skies, the angelic host proclaim,
00:14:38Christ is born in Bethlehem, hark the herald angels sing.
00:14:46May the Lord bless and keep you.
00:14:48May his face shine upon you.
00:14:50Go forth in peace.
00:14:55Nice to see you again, sir.
00:15:01Now, glad to see you awake.
00:15:04What I mean is, Reverend Ives gives a poignant sermon,
00:15:07but sometimes it's a poignant, long-winded sermon.
00:15:10Well, I like the message and the music.
00:15:13Oh, they're great.
00:15:14Shiny shoes and a sure bit.
00:15:16I gather you must be army.
00:15:18I'm currently on leave.
00:15:20Yeah, I serve, too.
00:15:22Oh, Vietnam?
00:15:24It wasn't the Crimea.
00:15:27Yeah, come on.
00:15:29Here, come here a minute.
00:15:34Excuse me, I'd like to steal my daughter for a second.
00:15:41Cody, this is my somewhat attractive daughter, Faith.
00:15:44We saw each other in the diner yesterday.
00:15:46You two already met?
00:15:47We're both fans of curly fries.
00:15:50Extra crispy.
00:15:53Cody's army.
00:15:55Sergeant, on leave.
00:15:56Oh, do you have family in town?
00:15:58No, no, I'm just, I'm just passing through.
00:16:04Faith, honey, would you mind taking Mrs. Cleveland to her car?
00:16:07She wants to go home.
00:16:09Well, Cody Cullen, it was nice meeting you.
00:16:11Hope you have safe travels during the holiday.
00:16:14I'll take him, Mrs. Cleveland.
00:16:18It was really great meeting you, sir.
00:16:20Great to meet you.
00:16:21You come back anytime, soon.
00:16:34Cody!
00:16:35Hold on!
00:16:42Dad, look out!
00:16:43Sir, out of the way!
00:16:50Dad.
00:16:51Dad.
00:16:53Are you okay?
00:16:56Somebody go call an ambulance.
00:17:02There he is.
00:17:05The hero.
00:17:07No, no, no. Right time, right place.
00:17:10How you doing?
00:17:11Oh, banged up my bad hip and bruised my shoulder,
00:17:14but thank God for your special ops reflexes.
00:17:17Oh, we haven't had a chance to meet yet.
00:17:19I'm Rosie Spellman.
00:17:21Cody Cullen, ma'am.
00:17:22I'm just so grateful you were there.
00:17:26We all are.
00:17:28Oh, I'm just glad you finally got to meet the love of my life.
00:17:32Well, you'll just have to come home and have dinner with us tonight, Cody.
00:17:36I mean, we gotta be able to thank you some way.
00:17:38I'm gonna head out.
00:17:39Oh, come on.
00:17:41You were the injured.
00:17:42Been a long time since I talked army with a fellow grunt.
00:17:47Well, I won't take no for an answer.
00:17:49Besides, we've got plenty of extra rooms at the house.
00:17:51You can just stay the night.
00:17:52Be smart.
00:17:53Be smart.
00:17:55And then how?
00:17:56We'd love for you to join us.
00:17:58Consider it settled.
00:18:00Welcome to the Spellman family.
00:18:03Marsh!
00:18:19You can go ahead and put it right there next to Pop's.
00:18:21Okay.
00:18:26Okay.
00:18:34Wow.
00:18:36Something smells really good.
00:18:38My mom was baking blueberry muffins this morning.
00:18:41She bakes morning, noon, and night during holiday season.
00:18:44You like it?
00:18:46Oh, yeah.
00:18:47It's everything I thought it would be.
00:18:49I'm sorry?
00:18:51You know when you imagine someone's home.
00:18:53It's very cozy and inviting.
00:18:55Come on. I'll show you the guest bedroom.
00:19:02These are some of the men who served with Dad and never made it home.
00:19:05He salutes them every day.
00:19:07But I don't mean to tell you about that bond.
00:19:09My mom calls him his mistress.
00:19:11She always credits the army with teaching Dad the skills for a good marriage.
00:19:15Loyalty, commitment, love of family, and the ability to do his own laundry.
00:19:21I can't believe she really taught him that.
00:19:23But it seems more masculine to credit the military.
00:19:27Come on.
00:19:30So, this will be your room.
00:19:33The bathroom's right around the corner.
00:19:35I'll hang you some towels.
00:19:36Yours will be the green ones.
00:19:38Okay. Thank you.
00:19:40Faith, I want to...
00:19:42Faith, we're back! Can you come help with dinner?
00:19:47Coming, Mom!
00:19:48Take your time. Settle in.
00:19:50Okay.
00:20:08Cody!
00:20:10Cut me and Rosie's cousins from Grass Valley.
00:20:12This is Jack and Suzanne.
00:20:14Hey, Jack.
00:20:15Hi.
00:20:16My boys, Sammy and Henry.
00:20:17The scalawags.
00:20:19My daughter, Rebecca.
00:20:20The beauty.
00:20:21Cody, would you mind going out to the garage and grabbing a couple of folding chairs for the boys?
00:20:26Point me in the right direction.
00:20:27I'll show you.
00:20:28Okay, but no lifting for you.
00:20:30The doctor doesn't want you using that arm at all.
00:20:33Fine, fine. I'm just going for a walk with my hero buddy.
00:20:38It's really great to have you here.
00:20:40Great to be here.
00:20:41It's like somebody's got a couple hobbies.
00:20:43Yeah, I wanted to build a sleigh, but one with wheels on it.
00:20:46Rosie gets a kick out of this thing.
00:20:48Says it's romantic.
00:20:50Huh.
00:20:51Yeah.
00:20:52I suppose that hog's for Rosie, too, huh?
00:20:54Oh, no, no, no. That one's for me.
00:20:56Not too much lately, though.
00:20:58The eyes are slowing.
00:21:01Wow, what a great spot.
00:21:03Yeah, that's up off of Highway 49.
00:21:06It's got a beautiful view of the Yuba River.
00:21:09You ought to see it before you leave.
00:21:11That view.
00:21:12Yeah.
00:21:13It's a California memorial site dedicated to those who died in Vietnam.
00:21:19My dad died in Vietnam.
00:21:22I'm sorry to hear that.
00:21:25Hit my mom pretty hard.
00:21:26She passed away after I graduated from high school.
00:21:29You know, sometimes I...
00:21:32I think that's why I joined the Army.
00:21:34I thought I'd fill that void somehow.
00:21:39What are you doing with the holiday?
00:21:41I'm not really sure.
00:21:43I got a business proposition for you.
00:21:46I own a mill, a family business.
00:21:49Now, with this injury, I really could use your help here.
00:21:52Especially during the holiday.
00:21:54It's one of the busiest times of our year.
00:21:56I don't want to take your money, Luke.
00:21:58Maybe I could work for room and board, something like that.
00:22:00Yeah, great, great.
00:22:03That'll get Richard off my back, squawking about taking on more help.
00:22:08Yeah, that's good.
00:22:10What are you doing?
00:22:12Oh, I was surprised, Rosie.
00:22:15So, you know, it's like fate brought you here.
00:22:20Yeah.
00:22:21Sure.
00:22:22Not fate, exactly.
00:22:25Huh?
00:22:26Well, I got this Christmas card.
00:22:28What?
00:22:29It's been a real lifeline for me.
00:22:34She brought you here?
00:22:35Don't you think it's a little odd that a grown man would travel this far based on a card?
00:22:39Have you told her?
00:22:40Maybe we should keep it to ourselves for now.
00:22:43No problem.
00:22:44It doesn't matter how you got here.
00:22:47It's just great that you're here with us now.
00:22:53How fast does that crazy guy go?
00:22:55Forty, I'd say forty up that hill.
00:22:57Geez.
00:22:58Without him, I'd be pushing...
00:22:59Food's out!
00:23:01Happy New Year!
00:23:04Oh, boy.
00:23:05Perfect timing, Uncle Richard.
00:23:07I know my cue, Daddy.
00:23:09Hey, the gang's all here!
00:23:10How is it that you always seem to arrive after all the work is done,
00:23:15and at the very instant that the food is out?
00:23:18Genius timing.
00:23:19Richard, meet Cody Cullen.
00:23:22A real live hero!
00:23:24Oh, I don't know about that.
00:23:25You'll be getting to spend extra time with this real live hero,
00:23:28because he just agreed to stay on through the holidays
00:23:31and help us, I should say you, at the mill.
00:23:35Great! I'll teach you everything I know.
00:23:37Where's your sling?
00:23:39Oh, Rosie, you know I heal fast.
00:23:41Well, might as well eat while it's hot.
00:23:48Let us give thanks.
00:23:54Thank you, Lord, for the meal we are about to receive.
00:23:58And thank you for our family and friends, both old and new.
00:24:03Please take care of those who are away from their homes this day.
00:24:08And during this Christmas season,
00:24:11please let us all find peace.
00:24:15Amen.
00:24:17Let's go! Let's go!
00:24:18You can turn back now, brother.
00:24:20Chuckle! Chuckle!
00:24:22You're all over it, baby!
00:24:24Yeah!
00:24:34Yeah, yeah.
00:24:36Come on, Richard!
00:24:37Why is your sweat like that when you work for me?
00:24:47Ha! Like a trickle-toes!
00:24:52Dishes are done.
00:24:53Oh, that's good.
00:24:54It's offside! It's offside! It's offside!
00:24:56Get back over here!
00:24:57Hey! There he is over there!
00:24:58It's offside here!
00:25:00Oh, I wish I could play.
00:25:02They'd probably kill me.
00:25:06Come on, Dad.
00:25:07What?
00:25:08The way Uncle Richard plays, we could use a referee.
00:25:11That's an idea.
00:25:13I'd love to blow the whistle on him.
00:25:15Come on.
00:25:16Ho! Ho! Ho! He's offside!
00:25:17Move! Move!
00:25:19Pass! Pass!
00:25:21Who's got it? Who's got it?
00:25:22Ha!
00:25:31Those kids are tough.
00:25:33Bye, Henry!
00:25:34Bye!
00:25:35Bye, Sammy!
00:25:36Merry Christmas!
00:25:37See you in a few weeks!
00:25:47Hey, you're up late.
00:25:49Hey.
00:25:53I was just going to get something to drink.
00:25:55Help yourself. Hot chocolate.
00:25:56Ooh.
00:26:01Your parents are great.
00:26:03Aren't they?
00:26:05They both know when to lead and when to follow.
00:26:07Neither feels the need to compromise.
00:26:10It's really inspiring.
00:26:12I'd love to have that with someone one day.
00:26:17You've got quite a few cars to write there.
00:26:19Oh, not really.
00:26:21I already sent the ones to the troops at Thanksgiving,
00:26:23so now it's just friends and family.
00:26:27It's a really special thing that you do.
00:26:28Not really.
00:26:30Doesn't make that big of a difference.
00:26:32Faith.
00:26:33It makes a huge difference.
00:26:36In many ways, it saved my life.
00:26:43My mom and I, we made a card for my dad when he was in Vietnam.
00:26:46I know he got the card.
00:26:48And it meant a lot to him.
00:26:50Did he make it back?
00:26:52Oh, no.
00:26:54Well,
00:26:56getting a card from someone you know
00:26:58has got to have a lot more meaning than getting one from a complete stranger.
00:27:02I got a card once.
00:27:04Words kept me going.
00:27:20We pretty much do all things wood.
00:27:46We pretty much do all things wood.
00:27:49Logging, lumber,
00:27:51firewood, Christmas trees,
00:27:55mostly cedar,
00:27:57some duck fur,
00:27:59a little northern pine,
00:28:01and of course, the last few weeks we've been selling Christmas trees.
00:28:04Definitely everyone's favorite season.
00:28:06Oh, yeah.
00:28:07Some day it'll all go to faith.
00:28:10Wow.
00:28:11What's all this for?
00:28:12Woodworking.
00:28:14The guys use it whenever they get the urge.
00:28:16Usually just my brother-in-law, Richard.
00:28:19He's a master craftsman.
00:28:21And since his wife died,
00:28:23I guess he just likes to pass the hours in here.
00:28:29Let's go look at the office.
00:28:39Hello, everybody.
00:28:41Morning.
00:28:42Morning.
00:28:44This is where the beauty and brains of our outfit hang out.
00:28:48Needless to say,
00:28:50my chair is over there.
00:28:53That doesn't mean we don't let him buy us lunch.
00:28:57Faith, our lovely daughter,
00:28:58sits over there and handles all the accounting,
00:29:01plus counting the dots.
00:29:03Counting the dots, what's that?
00:29:05It's silly, really.
00:29:06Never mind.
00:29:07Good morning, all.
00:29:09Armin messed up the heartland lumber order.
00:29:12Really?
00:29:13Yeah.
00:29:14You know, he can't load logs, he can't load lumber.
00:29:17My order says 1,200 board feet of cedar.
00:29:20And Armin, he stacked up about a thousand.
00:29:22Oh, Richard.
00:29:24All right, let's go work her out.
00:29:26Faith, would you finish the tour with Cody
00:29:29and be sure and show him our magic spot?
00:29:32Sure.
00:29:34Come on, Richard.
00:29:35Are you ready?
00:29:38See ya.
00:29:42Okay, this is our head rig, our edger and resaw.
00:29:46These cut the logs into three sizes,
00:29:48six by six, six by four, eight by eight.
00:29:51And then the jackets go up over the chipper
00:29:54and down at the chip truck for hauling.
00:29:57The chips get used in playgrounds and gardening mulch.
00:30:00The rest goes to electric plants.
00:30:02If we didn't use every inch, we wouldn't have a profit.
00:30:04Come on, I'll show you the best part of the tour.
00:30:09You really love working at the mill, don't you?
00:30:11Can you tell?
00:30:12Yeah.
00:30:13I do, I love it.
00:30:15One day I was going to go away and work in the city,
00:30:17but I love my mom, my dad.
00:30:20I love the work we do.
00:30:21I love being outside.
00:30:25See, look how beautiful this place is.
00:30:29This is my parents' favorite place in the whole world.
00:30:33I can see why.
00:30:35This is where my dad proposed to my mom
00:30:37before he left for Vietnam.
00:30:39When he was gone, she came here every day
00:30:41to pray for his safe return.
00:30:44When he got back, they were married here.
00:30:47And they named me Faith because they never lost faith
00:30:49that they would always be together and have a family.
00:30:56Have the miller deliver you a day later.
00:30:59I hate it, but go ahead.
00:31:04Anybody shoot at you?
00:31:05Not today, Dad.
00:31:07Did you show him our magic spot?
00:31:09Oh, it's beautiful.
00:31:12Why don't you take Cody with you and check on that load?
00:31:14Right.
00:31:15Keep him out of trouble.
00:31:16You betcha.
00:31:17I'm talking to Cody.
00:31:25What's scary is, he meant it.
00:31:27I'm known to be a bit reckless around here.
00:31:29But it keeps things exciting.
00:31:31How long have you been with the company?
00:31:33Since high school.
00:31:34I introduced my sister to the boss' son for job security.
00:31:38Looks like it worked.
00:31:47Didn't expect to see him.
00:31:49Paul, Faith's very long-distance boyfriend.
00:31:53She's like Job, waiting for him to take things to the next level.
00:31:57He's been moving slower than molasses.
00:32:03That was 1990.
00:32:05Yeah, I'll use it later.
00:32:08Hello.
00:32:10What a surprise.
00:32:11Is that...
00:32:16Rosie, Luke.
00:32:17How nice to see you, Paul.
00:32:19Paul.
00:32:20What are you doing here?
00:32:22I wouldn't miss Christmas with my girl.
00:32:24You were supposed to be traveling through Europe.
00:32:26I know, but I'm going to work out of the NAP office for a couple weeks.
00:32:30I'm so glad you're back.
00:32:32I brought some delicious wine back to go with your great cooking.
00:32:35Wow.
00:32:36Then you better come over for dinner tonight.
00:32:38I'd love to.
00:32:40If you don't mind, I'd like to steal Faith away for lunch.
00:32:43What do you think, boss?
00:32:45Can I take an early one?
00:32:46Well...
00:32:47Have fun.
00:32:49We'll see you later.
00:32:50See you tonight.
00:33:03Hey, there.
00:33:07I could use that quarterback arm of yours out in the mill.
00:33:10Okay.
00:33:11Um...
00:33:14If you require a hammer, I'm your man.
00:33:17I got a little woodworking project I was kind of hoping you'd help me out with it.
00:33:21Sure.
00:33:23All right.
00:33:48So he's staying here?
00:33:50In the house?
00:33:51Yeah.
00:33:52Well, do you know anything about this Sergeant Hero?
00:33:56There are some twisted freaks in the Army, too, you know.
00:33:59Your eyes are about the same shade of green as our guest bathroom towels.
00:34:03I'm not jealous.
00:34:05I'm just protective.
00:34:07You mean a lot to me.
00:34:15Hi.
00:34:16Hi.
00:34:17Hey.
00:34:21You sure put in a lot of hours today.
00:34:23Hope Richard didn't work you too hard.
00:34:25He looks like he can handle it.
00:34:26Hi, I'm Paul.
00:34:27Cody.
00:34:28Faith told me how you saved Luke the other day.
00:34:31I'm impressed.
00:34:32Sure you would have done the same?
00:34:34Paul's in the wine business, and we were about to have a tasting, if you'd care to join us.
00:34:38Oh, that'd be great.
00:34:39Let me clean up, and I'll come back and start a fire.
00:34:42No need, I got it covered.
00:34:44Great.
00:34:45Here, honey, have a seat.
00:34:47It's good to be home.
00:34:53Hi.
00:34:54Oh, hi, Paul.
00:34:56Hi.
00:34:57Time to get dinner started.
00:34:59Oh, you brought the wine.
00:35:02I'll get some stuff and go with it, okay?
00:35:13I'd say this is a fruity wine, isn't it?
00:35:19This wine you brought is really good, Paul.
00:35:24Yeah, this stuff really does taste...
00:35:27What was it you said, Paul?
00:35:29Full-bodied and romantic?
00:35:31Aromatic.
00:35:33I picked it up when I was in France last month.
00:35:36I toured the chateaus of the Alsace region.
00:35:39They're known for their whites, especially their Rieslings,
00:35:42which are sometimes confused with German wines.
00:35:44Why's that?
00:35:46Because the grapes are very similar.
00:35:48Speaking for myself,
00:35:50I found I always prefer a french fry to a french wine.
00:35:55Me too.
00:36:20Here comes the boss.
00:36:43He's a good worker, dear.
00:36:46Pull over in here.
00:36:51Well, we're running low on Christmas trees.
00:36:55Guess we'll be cutting some more tomorrow.
00:36:58Let's go get the girls.
00:37:04Hey, how's it going?
00:37:06Oh, great.
00:37:08Yeah, I think we're just about ready to quit for tonight.
00:37:15What is...
00:37:16Oh!
00:37:18What is...
00:37:19Oh!
00:37:20You read my mind! I'm starving!
00:37:22What are the bags for?
00:37:23Care packages for the people at the shelter.
00:37:31We're really low on winter clothing.
00:37:33We really need mittens, hats, scarves, and especially sweaters.
00:37:39Okay.
00:37:41Where's your boyfriend, Faith? He seems to have disappeared.
00:37:44Oh, he's out of town on business.
00:37:46He'll be back when he can.
00:37:48Oh.
00:37:59Hey, Cody!
00:38:01You're gonna be a logger, you're gonna look the part.
00:38:07Wow, thanks, Luke. That's awesome.
00:38:09Go on, put it on. We'll be twins today.
00:38:12That's scary.
00:38:14You know, he's just trying to butter you up.
00:38:17He knows that cutting Christmas trees is gonna be the most exhausting day of your life.
00:38:22Morning, boys.
00:38:24Morning, Dotty.
00:38:29Paul's volunteered to help cut Christmas trees with you.
00:38:32Paul the who's in Whoville better run for it.
00:38:36Morning.
00:38:38Good morning.
00:38:40I'm glad you could make it.
00:38:42Are you ready?
00:38:43No.
00:38:45Come on, Paul Bunyan. Let's cut you loose.
00:38:50I'll see you later.
00:38:52Let's go.
00:39:12We got a thousand feet above the mill, we hit the snow line.
00:39:18Your cell phone works up here?
00:39:23This is Paul.
00:39:25Don't cut anything under five and a half feet.
00:39:27And only the ones that are crowded.
00:39:29No, no, it's okay. I told him I was...
00:39:36I can't hear you up here. They're operating a chainsaw.
00:39:39Yeah, yeah, we're cutting down trees.
00:39:42In the woods.
00:39:44I don't know if it's a forest or some sort of tree hatchery.
00:39:49The thing is that...
00:39:51Can you talk to Roberto about that?
00:39:54And what'd Roberto say?
00:39:58What I told James in the office is...
00:40:00No, thanks. I'm glad you called. This couldn't wait.
00:40:03No, I wasn't busy at all.
00:40:05All right, listen, you have a merry Christmas.
00:40:07I will. I will. You too.
00:40:11Oh, you guys really went to town.
00:40:13How long was I on that call?
00:40:15About two hours.
00:40:17Sorry, James in New York had a problem with the shipment out of France.
00:40:22Can I help?
00:40:23No, we're done.
00:40:24Thanks.
00:40:29You boys have fun?
00:40:31Oh, yeah.
00:40:32Oh, yeah.
00:40:34That was hard work.
00:40:36We'll make a woodsman out of you yet.
00:40:39Come here.
00:40:40Cody, darling, I'm feeling a little tender.
00:40:44Would you mind?
00:40:47Merry Christmas.
00:40:48Merry Christmas.
00:40:49Hello, ladies.
00:40:50Hey, what do you have there?
00:40:51You mentioned that you were putting together boxes and you needed a few extra items,
00:40:54so last night I went out and bought some stuff.
00:40:58Oh, thank you.
00:41:00Oh, you're so generous.
00:41:03Hey, what do you have, Cody?
00:41:04Oh, just a few things I was gonna donate to the cause.
00:41:07Oh, how nice of you, Cody.
00:41:11Let me help you with that. Come on.
00:41:15He's such a gentleman.
00:41:22Paul.
00:41:40Everybody was really impressed with what you did in there.
00:41:43What about you?
00:41:44Of course I'm impressed. I'm really proud of you.
00:41:46You seem more taken with Cody.
00:41:49What you both did was wonderful.
00:41:52Come here.
00:42:00Hey.
00:42:01Ah, top of the morning.
00:42:03That looks complicated.
00:42:05I've been doing it a long time.
00:42:07It's pretty simple.
00:42:08We just count the boards with their sizes.
00:42:11It's a four by six, six by six, six by eight.
00:42:15This is how we keep track of them.
00:42:17We have coded dots, and each dot counts for a board.
00:42:22You get five dots like this, then you just connect the dots with the line.
00:42:26The line also counts for another board.
00:42:28Are these the dots that Faith likes?
00:42:30I taught her how to count them before she's even old enough to count them.
00:42:34That's why I call her Dotty.
00:42:36Would you take that tolly sheet back to the office for me?
00:42:41Okay.
00:42:47Morning, everybody.
00:42:48Morning.
00:42:50Well, you missed breakfast.
00:42:52Oh, I got up early. Went for a run.
00:42:54Well, why didn't you tell me? I could have gotten up and watched.
00:42:59Nice flowers.
00:43:00They're from Pop.
00:43:02My mom.
00:43:03Isn't it clever? Roses for Rosie.
00:43:05Too clever for my Luke to have figured out.
00:43:08He always brings me dogwood blossoms.
00:43:11Not that I'm cheap.
00:43:12I just like to pick flowers from our special place.
00:43:15These are from Richard.
00:43:17Oh, I love counting dots.
00:43:20I know that sounds silly, but it's my favorite thing to do.
00:43:23So you like to recount the dots, and that makes you happy?
00:43:26Immensely.
00:43:27Your lucky day, Cody.
00:43:29Lesson number two, how to sharpen chipper blades.
00:43:33Pardon me.
00:43:34Good luck.
00:43:42Cody.
00:43:43Sir.
00:43:44Listen, we need you to count up that wood stack over by the multi-head resaw.
00:43:51I'm sending out a load.
00:43:53When you finish up, tonight or tomorrow morning, whenever.
00:43:57I want you to get the totals over to Faith.
00:44:00Okay.
00:44:01Thanks.
00:44:03Thanks.
00:44:08Well, that shouldn't take you much time.
00:44:10You didn't have anything planned for tonight, did you?
00:44:12See you in the morning.
00:44:14If I'm done by then.
00:44:32Okay.
00:44:58Good morning.
00:44:59Hey.
00:45:00Do you know what this is?
00:45:02It's a tally for the lumber that's being sent.
00:45:05Let me know if it doesn't add up, Dotty.
00:45:23Hey, what are you two up to?
00:45:25Just working on a little Christmas project for Sammy.
00:45:28Oh, good, good.
00:45:29Hey, you didn't forget about the Christmas dance tonight down at the veterans hall, did you?
00:45:32Oh, um...
00:45:34You know, I think I'm going to stay here, Luke, and finish up some odds and ends.
00:45:37What?
00:45:38Well, good.
00:45:39Maybe I can get a woman to dance with me when you're not there.
00:45:41Richard, Richard, Richard.
00:45:42Who are you kidding?
00:45:44You don't stand much of a chance with her without Cody.
00:45:46Come on, come on.
00:45:47It'll give you a good chance to meet some great veterans.
00:45:49And if you don't get down there tonight,
00:45:51Rosie's going to be very ticked at you for not tasting her baby-backed pork ribs.
00:45:55I mean it.
00:45:56All right, we'll be right behind you.
00:45:57All right.
00:45:58Don't forget, hurry up.
00:46:01You too, Richard.
00:46:09Boy, oh boy, oh boy.
00:46:11Just what I need.
00:46:13I'm going to find my lovely wife and take her for a spin.
00:46:17Well, what'll I do?
00:46:19Try amusing yourself.
00:46:29Come on, come on, come on.
00:46:36Marry us.
00:46:41How's it going, Cody?
00:46:42Feel like a little spin with me?
00:46:44No.
00:46:46Your face looks like she's having fun.
00:46:48Yeah, she deserves better.
00:46:50I think she treats you pretty well.
00:46:52For the moment.
00:46:53For the long run.
00:46:54She's lasted quite a while already.
00:46:57Nothing but a long, stretched-out romance.
00:46:59Every time she talks to him about the future together,
00:47:02he disappears to pursue some new goal to secure their future.
00:47:07Maybe now he's ready to commit.
00:47:09Well, that's exactly what Luke and I are afraid of.
00:47:12I'm going to grab a soda. You want one?
00:47:13I'm good, thanks.
00:47:22This is yours if you go dance with Paul.
00:47:27You can buy a lot of bingo cards.
00:47:31Deal.
00:47:34Excuse me, may I cut in?
00:47:36Uh-huh, sure.
00:47:49You snooze, you lose.
00:47:52Care to dance?
00:47:55Sure.
00:48:08Quite a nice couple.
00:48:10Except they're not a couple, honey.
00:48:13Faith and Paul are a couple.
00:48:15Yeah, what kind of couple sees each other a handful of times
00:48:19What kind of couple sees each other a handful of times a year?
00:48:22Come on, she's not a child.
00:48:24You have to respect her choices.
00:48:26Good in theory.
00:48:28But speaking as a father, he's not the right guy for her.
00:48:32He's not that bad a guy.
00:48:34Besides, he's crazy about Faith.
00:48:36So's Cody.
00:48:38Where you been?
00:48:39Look at them.
00:48:42They don't make them any better than him, Rosie.
00:48:45Anyway, I know true love when I see it.
00:49:09Mind if I cut in?
00:49:11Excuse me, can I have my dancing partner back?
00:49:18I need to go. Freshen up.
00:49:23It's just a dance, Paul.
00:49:32Everything okay?
00:49:33She's marking his territory.
00:49:36The greatest things happen when you're dancing.
00:49:47Thanks, Faith.
00:49:48You're welcome.
00:49:50Of course.
00:49:52Paul's still M.I.A.?
00:49:54He's on his way back from a business trip in Napa.
00:49:57What exactly does he do for a living?
00:49:59Yeah, Faith, what exactly does he do for a living?
00:50:02He's an international wine broker.
00:50:04Oh, yeah.
00:50:05Spends far more time internationally than he does with my daughter.
00:50:15Hey, Eric.
00:50:16Sorry about the delay.
00:50:18Traffic over the bridge is stacked.
00:50:20Hey, I don't believe it.
00:50:22What's that?
00:50:23I don't think I've ever seen you wear jeans.
00:50:25Believe it or not, later today I'm heading back up to help Faith,
00:50:28You must really love this girl.
00:50:30There's another guy trying to move in on her.
00:50:32Well, this should seal the deal.
00:50:38So you're going to move up to the boonies, become a mountain man?
00:50:40No way.
00:50:41Once Faith says yes, she's coming on the road with me.
00:50:44What if she doesn't want to leave?
00:50:46She's ready.
00:50:47Well, the problem is, he's supposed to be selling trees with Faith down at the lot.
00:50:51I'm sure he wouldn't want to miss out on that.
00:50:53I'm sure he wouldn't want to miss out on that.
00:50:55Waitress?
00:50:57Listen, Cody.
00:50:59It'd really look bad if we miss our turn selling trees down at the children's Christmas charity lot.
00:51:06You mind taking Faith down there and getting her started selling?
00:51:10Works for me.
00:51:11Thanks, Cody. That'd be great.
00:51:13Paul can meet us up there.
00:51:15I'll run, go get my cup.
00:51:17One minute.
00:51:19I'll be right back.
00:51:21I'll run, go get my cup.
00:51:24One man's loss is another man's gain.
00:51:33Nice meeting you, Cody.
00:51:34Nice to meet you, Mr. Lombardo.
00:51:35Thanks, Faith. Merry Christmas to your mom and dad.
00:51:38I'll tell them. Bye.
00:51:40Bye.
00:51:42That was great. Really fun.
00:51:45You got a serious catch, huh?
00:51:49What?
00:51:50You covered in needles.
00:51:53That's better.
00:51:56You seem happier than when you first got into town.
00:51:58Oh, what are you saying? I was stuffy?
00:52:00Cautious.
00:52:01Compliments of the army.
00:52:04Wait. I'll be right back.
00:52:21Hey.
00:52:23I have a present for you.
00:52:28Faith.
00:52:31So you can remember your family.
00:52:35Hold on. I want to take a picture of you.
00:52:41Cheese?
00:52:42Cheese.
00:52:44Hey.
00:52:45Cody will help you out.
00:52:51Hey.
00:52:53Wait a second. I'm going to take your picture.
00:52:56That's funny.
00:52:59She's a beauty.
00:53:00Maybe this is our biggest treat.
00:53:03Whatever you're into.
00:53:04I wouldn't put it that way.
00:53:06What the?
00:53:07Who threw that at me? Was that you?
00:53:21Hold on. Hold on.
00:53:24Do you take one of me?
00:53:27Okay. Looking up.
00:53:32You take it. No, I'm taking it.
00:53:39Okay. Smile.
00:53:45No.
00:53:48Come forward.
00:53:50That's better. Okay.
00:53:51Smile.
00:53:53One, two, three.
00:53:55I'm sorry I'm late.
00:53:56Later.
00:53:57Traffic was a nightmare.
00:54:00It's okay. Everything's working out.
00:54:03It's not too late.
00:54:04We can go home, open up a bottle of wine, sit in front of the fire.
00:54:08I just have to finish off a couple of things here.
00:54:11First.
00:54:12No, no. It's okay.
00:54:13You guys go ahead.
00:54:17Thanks, Cody.
00:54:20Oh.
00:54:21Forget this.
00:54:24It's cold out here.
00:54:25You think this is cold?
00:54:26You should have been here this afternoon.
00:54:27Where are we going for dinner?
00:54:50Hey.
00:54:51Hi.
00:54:57What you doing here?
00:54:59Went for an early morning walk.
00:55:02How about you?
00:55:03I was delivering wedges to Uncle Richard.
00:55:13I gotta get back.
00:55:14Oh. I'll go with you if you want.
00:55:17Oh, sorry.
00:55:21Oh, no.
00:55:39What?
00:55:40Oh, no.
00:55:41I gotta go.
00:55:42Faith.
00:55:43I gotta get back.
00:55:44Faith.
00:55:45I'm sorry.
00:55:47Faith.
00:55:48I kissed him, Mom.
00:55:50I love Paul.
00:55:51I kissed Cody.
00:55:52Oh, it was...
00:55:53You were just wrapped up in the moment.
00:55:56It was just a...
00:55:58A brief lapse in judgment, Mom.
00:56:01I'm not sure it was.
00:56:04What am I gonna do, Mom?
00:56:08Only you can answer that question, darling.
00:56:13You are.
00:56:15You like Paul, don't you?
00:56:18It's who you are.
00:56:20It's who you love that matters.
00:56:23I've always thought
00:56:25Paul would be the man I would spend my life with.
00:56:28Or raise a family with.
00:56:30You just have to remember, sweetheart.
00:56:32You've gotta follow your heart.
00:56:36I love you, Mom.
00:56:38Faith.
00:56:42I can come back for you later.
00:56:46Go ahead. Sit down.
00:56:50Get some of that, uh, safflower with you.
00:56:55Hold on a minute!
00:57:01What's going on around here?
00:57:02I'm sorry.
00:57:03Uh-oh. I said I'm sorry.
00:57:05Must be a doozy.
00:57:06I kissed Faith.
00:57:07Finally.
00:57:10Well, judging by the scene in the office,
00:57:13she must have kissed you back.
00:57:21Yeah.
00:57:23Did you hear the news?
00:57:24What news?
00:57:26Love is in the air.
00:57:27What are you talking about?
00:57:29Well, your daughter was outflanked by special forces.
00:57:32Uh-oh.
00:57:33What happened?
00:57:34He planted a big one on her.
00:57:36What'd she do?
00:57:37She turned bright red.
00:57:39Yeah. They seem to like it.
00:57:41They both seem to like it.
00:57:43Good. That's going according to plan.
00:57:46Oh, you have a plan.
00:57:48Of course I have a plan.
00:57:49I've always had a plan.
00:57:53Where is she now?
00:57:54She's up with her mom.
00:57:56Huh?
00:57:57Uh-huh.
00:57:58Okay. I gotta go talk to her.
00:58:00Can I come?
00:58:01Don't be silly.
00:58:04Where's Faith?
00:58:06She was upset, so she went home early.
00:58:08Did you hear?
00:58:10You're stirring up trouble
00:58:12and looking for a smack on the bottom.
00:58:14Now, Rosie,
00:58:16don't you get me all excited.
00:58:20Come on.
00:58:26This is a better batch than the last one you made.
00:58:29What's wrong with the last one?
00:58:31You didn't have enough flour in there.
00:58:32Look at this.
00:58:33Plenty of flour.
00:58:34No, no, you're wrong.
00:58:36I mean, I keep telling you this,
00:58:38and every year you give me the same grief.
00:58:40Oh, you...
00:58:41Let me see what he's doing.
00:58:43Hey, everybody.
00:58:45It's about time. You're missing all the fun.
00:58:47You okay, Cody?
00:58:48Yeah, everything's good.
00:58:50Come in.
00:58:52Hello.
00:58:55Hey, hi.
00:58:56Hi, Paul.
00:58:57Wow, you guys are doing good work here.
00:58:59Mm-hmm.

00:59:01Grab some sugar sprinkles.
00:59:03I'd love to, Rosie,
00:59:04but, uh,
00:59:05actually, I wanted to know
00:59:06if I could steal Faith away for the evening.
00:59:08It's getting cold in here.
00:59:10Cody, go get some firewood.
00:59:12My work is done here.
00:59:13Let me help you.
00:59:18Got you a surprise.
00:59:21Thanks.
00:59:23So cute.
00:59:30Listen,
00:59:32I know we've only known you
00:59:33for a short while,
00:59:36but I want you to know
00:59:37you've become family here.
00:59:40We've all come to love you.
00:59:42I mean, all of us.
00:59:45Look, I didn't plan on any of this.
00:59:46Mm-hmm.

00:59:50They become a band of brothers
00:59:52and sisters,
00:59:54a family.
00:59:56Their job is to defend
00:59:58and come back home
01:00:00to those who are waiting for them.
01:00:03What you need is someone
01:00:04to come back to.
01:00:07Got it?
01:00:16All right, you sit tight.
01:00:17I'll get the umbrella.
01:00:32Here you go.
01:00:33Watch your step.
01:00:36Right this way.
01:00:47Where are all your customers?
01:00:50Place looks deserted.
01:00:52Table ready for you.

01:01:17What are you up to?

01:01:21any quality time together.
01:01:24So you bought out Citronea
01:01:25for an entire night
01:01:27during the busy season?
01:01:29Merry Christmas.
01:01:34Merry Christmas.
01:01:36To us.
01:01:37To us.
01:01:40Okay.

01:01:54Now, I know that Christmas
01:01:55is only two days away,
01:01:57and I probably should have waited
01:01:59until then,
01:02:01but I can't wait another minute.
01:02:02Will you
01:02:03do me the honor
01:02:05of marrying me?
01:02:13Paul.
01:02:17I love you.
01:02:19Of course I'll marry you.
01:02:28I love you.
01:02:30I love you.
01:02:33I love you.
01:02:41We'll spend all of our anniversaries
01:02:42traveling through Europe.
01:02:43Wherever I go, you'll go with me.
01:02:45We'll spend the rest of our lives
01:02:47traveling the world.
01:03:03Morning.
01:03:05Hi.
01:03:06Cody.
01:03:08Um, there's something
01:03:09I have to say.
01:03:11Paul and I got engaged last night.
01:03:14That's great.
01:03:15I'm really happy for you.
01:03:17Paul's a great guy.
01:03:24I'm happy for you, Faith.
01:03:25I'm happy for you, Faith.
01:03:56Hi, honey.
01:03:59Hey.
01:04:02Did you order for us yet?
01:04:04Uh-huh.
01:04:06I'm glad you called.
01:04:08I needed a break.
01:04:09You know,
01:04:10once we get married,
01:04:12we're gonna have Christmas in Belize.
01:04:15And miss spending it here
01:04:16with my family?
01:04:18We're gonna start our own family
01:04:20in Napa.
01:04:22You know,
01:04:23we never discussed
01:04:24leaving Nevada City.
01:04:26You know I love
01:04:27working at the mill.
01:04:28You know I love
01:04:29spending time with my family.
01:04:31I thought you did, too.
01:04:33We can get a little place up here.
01:04:35We'll split our time.
01:04:37Relationships
01:04:38are about compromise.
01:04:40I really thought about that.
01:04:42It's gonna be okay.
01:04:44Your dad's gonna
01:04:46find someone to replace you
01:04:48and we'll come up
01:04:49and we'll visit him all the time.
01:04:51What you got?
01:04:54Oh, good times.
01:04:57Good times.
01:05:00I guess you've heard by now?
01:05:02Yeah.
01:05:04Richard's wearing my shirt.
01:05:06I'm gonna go get it.
01:05:08I'm gonna go get it.
01:05:10I'm gonna go get it.
01:05:12I'm gonna go get it.
01:05:14I'm gonna go get it.
01:05:16I'm gonna go get it.
01:05:18I'm gonna go get it.
01:05:20I'm black.
01:05:22Whatever happened to the young man
01:05:23asking the father's permission?
01:05:26Well, if Faith's happy,
01:05:27I'm sure you would've said yes.
01:05:29Listen, son.
01:05:31I-
01:05:33I know
01:05:34that you've fallen in love with Faith.
01:05:36It'd be so easy
01:05:37for you to retire
01:05:39from the Army now
01:05:40with your tours of duty
01:05:42and years of service.
01:05:44You could stay on here
01:05:45and work at the mill
01:05:46and run it one day.
01:05:48I can't stay. She's marrying somebody else.
01:05:51Exactly my point, but Paul isn't the one.
01:05:54Where's your sense of fighting for the right thing?
01:05:57There's something to be said for not invading where you don't belong.
01:06:00You can't retreat now. You need to tell her how you feel. It's the right thing to do.
01:06:05The right thing to do is to move on.
01:06:12To the guy who saved my life.
01:06:15To the guy who saved mine.
01:06:40Hi, this is Paul. I can't make it to the phone right now.
01:06:43But if you leave a message, I'll call you.
01:06:54I'm not at all happy about this engagement.
01:06:57Faith made her decision. We've got to support her.
01:06:59Well, Cody's leaving because of it.
01:07:02Yeah, well, I'm sorry about that.
01:07:04But that's his decision.
01:07:08Look, hold these.
01:07:14Hello?
01:07:15Hey, Dad.
01:07:17I'm stuck at the mill and my battery's dead and I can't find Paul.
01:07:20Can you come pick me up?
01:07:22I'm on my way.
01:07:25Faith's battery died and she can't find Paul.
01:07:28You want me to go with you?
01:07:32Oh, no. It's way too cold out there for old people like us.
01:07:38Luke Spellman!
01:07:40Who?
01:07:41Hmm?
01:07:57We're back.
01:08:02How was the sleigh ride?
01:08:03Oh, as usual. Very romantic.
01:08:06Faith's battery died. Would you run to the mill and pick her up?
01:08:09Oh, Luke, I don't think that's such a good idea.
01:08:14Humor me.
01:08:16This is Faith's favorite blanket.
01:08:19Okay.
01:08:20Keep the lines tight, but be gentle on the bit.
01:08:24She'll do the job.
01:08:26You sure about all this?
01:08:28Positive. Let her rip.
01:08:39Okay.
01:08:57Whoa. This was not my idea.
01:09:01I'm sorry about what happened in the woods the other day.
01:09:04It was unfair of me to give you the wrong idea.
01:09:07I'm not sorry.
01:09:09The time I spent with you, the kiss, I'll have that for the rest of my life.
01:09:14You deserve to be happy, Cody.
01:09:16I'm gonna be happy. Come on.
01:09:21It's cold.
01:09:25Thanks.
01:09:40Whoa, whoa, whoa. Good girl.
01:09:44Tell your dad I was easy on the bit.
01:09:50I want you to have this.
01:09:54It'll keep you safe and warm after you leave.
01:10:22Come to papa.
01:10:27Cody, grab a girl.
01:10:29Come on, come on.
01:10:31Come on, Cody.
01:10:40Don't do this.
01:10:42Change your partner's dozy nose.
01:10:46I really should be going.
01:10:48What?
01:10:49I have some stuff to finish off for tonight's service.
01:10:52Oh, come on.
01:10:53I have some things to take care of also.
01:10:56May I borrow the truck?
01:10:58Oh, yeah, sure.
01:11:00Remember, Christmas Eve service is at 7.
01:11:03If I'm finished, sir.
01:11:04Okay, Cody, but you try, huh?
01:11:06It's a beautiful service.
01:11:08Yes, ma'am. I'll try.
01:11:38♪♪
01:11:48♪♪
01:11:58♪♪
01:12:08♪♪
01:12:18♪♪
01:12:28♪♪
01:12:38You're still here.
01:12:43You're a lucky man, Paul.
01:12:45Love, not luck.
01:12:47You're my good fortune.

01:13:38The glory of the Lord shone all around,
01:13:40and they were very much afraid.
01:13:42The angel said to them,
01:13:43do not be afraid,
01:13:44I am bringing you good news of great joy
01:13:47Jesus came for the world,
01:13:48yet like all of us,
01:13:49he was a small-town kid
01:13:50who never strayed far from his loving family.
01:13:53He was surrounded by people who loved each other
01:13:56and had as his example, Joseph,
01:13:59who by choosing to stand by Mary
01:14:01set the standard for doing the right thing,
01:14:04for making the kinds of choices
01:14:05that called upon us to set aside our own desires
01:14:08for another's welfare.
01:14:10Is there any greater gift we can give
01:14:11or larger goodness we can do?
01:14:14I don't think so, friends.
01:14:16I just want to remind everybody
01:14:18to be sure to say a prayer
01:14:20for our brave men and women
01:14:22and the armed services
01:14:23who are overseas in harm's way
01:14:26on this holiday season.
01:14:29All right?
01:14:30Now that your candles are lit,
01:14:32let's all sing Silent Night.
01:14:35Hmm.

01:18:55Dear Faith,

01:19:03And then the first time
01:19:05when a thoughtful, tender woman
01:19:07sent me this card.
