00:26Hi, I'm Raíssa.
00:27I'm Juan, and we both direct the short film Imperatriz.
00:31I'm Letícia, and I'm the screenwriter of the short film.
00:34Imperatriz tells the story of two young people, Amelina and Eduardo,
00:39who happen to meet at a coffee shop in the middle of the night.
00:43This meeting will make each one of them take a different path in life
00:48than the one they've taken so far.
00:51It's essentially a story about what didn't happen between them,
00:55but also about the impact that certain coincidences
01:02and maybe even fate can have on people's lives.
01:06It may be something in my head, but it's just that...
01:11the moment I stepped out of the house,
01:15I felt like I had to be here, you know?
01:18This project was the first thing the three of us did,
01:26which was more professional, let's say.
01:29It was done with an audiovisual production logic,
01:32because this project was made for a third-year course
01:37in the fourth semester of the audiovisual course
01:40at USP's Communication and Arts School.
01:43We wanted to work a lot on the direction aspect
01:46with the exchange of glances between the two protagonists
01:52and the physical relationship between them,
01:56symbolizing both the position of the actors in the frame
02:02and the framing that we used as well.
02:05Imperatriz was shot twice a day,
02:07which were two nights, two days in a row,
02:10and it was a very important experience for the three of us,
02:13because it would have been very difficult to do everything
02:18that we would like to do if the whole team
02:20wasn't so in tune and so committed to making the set
02:24flow as well as it did.
02:26One of the things that is important to say is that
02:30it was very difficult to find a location to shoot the movie.
02:34We searched all over São Paulo for a place
02:38so that we could do it for free,
02:41or by exchanging services or offering some kind of service,
02:44but unfortunately we couldn't find it.
02:47So we had to pay a rent for the shooting days,
02:52and unfortunately we didn't have the money
02:55to pay the rent, besides all the other expenses from the short film.
03:00So we want to thank all the team leaders
03:04who got together to do a little favor
03:07so that we could pay the rent and make the short film happen.
03:11And if we manage to win this award,
03:14part of it would go to those people
03:17who helped make the movie happen.
03:21The short film is in post-production,
03:24and in that sense, an important thing that we would like to do
03:28is to give a better finish to the sound,
03:31so maybe we could do a dubbing,
03:34which also costs money, so we would bring new actors
03:37to be able to do these recordings.
03:40One of our goals is also to make the short film
03:43seen by as many people as possible,
03:46so that it can reach a lot of people,
03:49and for that we want to start by inscribing the project
03:54in several festivals, whether Brazilian or international.
03:59And we know that there is a cost for most of these festivals,
04:03often in dollars or euros.
04:06We would like to thank the Nascente team
04:09for choosing Imperatriz as one of the finalist projects.

04:15because it was really something very special for everyone involved,
04:18and we just want this film to circulate as much as possible
04:23so that this story can touch other people,
04:26reach other people,
04:29and make the name of ECA, CTR and USP
04:33circulate so that people know what we do here.
