00:00This is The Vessel, a New York City landmark.
00:03It was first opened in 2019, but after just 18 months it was shuttered,
00:07after four people committed suicide by leaping from the structure.
00:11Now, over three years later, it has been reopened once again,
00:14this time with safety measures having been installed.
00:17Operators have now put up fall protection nets on four of its winding staircases,
00:22as well as on adjacent platforms.
00:23While the nets do not cover the entirety of the landmark,
00:26only the sections which are netted have been reopened to the public.
00:29The Manhattan-Hudson Yards attraction stands some 150 feet tall
00:33and was an immediate hit amongst tourists and New Yorkers alike when it opened.
00:37In addition to the nets,
00:39four of the stairwells have also been fitted with steel mesh.
00:42The operators say this will both prevent jumping
00:44and retain The Vessel's overall aesthetic appeal.
00:46The Vessel is set to have its other levels reopened at some point as well,
00:50as they will continue to install more barriers on the upper levels of the landmark.
00:54However, the top floor will remain off-limits to visitors.
