00:00This video was recently captured as part of an archaeological dig in the UK, and this
00:08is what experts say is an ancient tool, one dating back over 3,000 years.
00:14The tool is a spade, and its dating suggests it would have been from the Bronze Age.
00:19Experts now say it's the oldest Bronze Age object ever discovered in England.
00:23The small shovel is made of oak, with experts saying that radiocarbon dating has revealed
00:27it is from between approximately 34 to 3,500 years ago.
00:32Archaeologists have yet to find any evidence of a permanent settlement in the area, but
00:35rather they suspect people came here seasonally.
00:38For what reason they might come to these moors, experts are still unsure.
00:41However, this oaken tool might provide clues, with one of the researchers saying about it,
00:46the spade is a fascinating part of the story, and as research continues, we're looking
00:50forward to exploring the relationship between the spade and the ditch where it was found,
00:54and what else they can tell us about life here 3,000 years ago.
00:57They add that this could shed light on humanity's current climate crisis, better understanding
01:01how humans have historically dealt with changing coastal regions.
01:05This is only the second Bronze Age object to have ever been unearthed in the UK, the
01:09previous one found in 1875.
