00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about England's appointment of Thomas Tuchel.
00:05Now, there's always a lot of controversy around who England appoint. Since his appointment
00:10there's been a lot of drama, particularly around the fact that he was German.
00:13Some people have been bringing up World War Two, which is ancient history, and some people are bringing up the victory in
00:191966, which is slightly more recent ancient history.
00:22Others say that he's a great tactical coach and has all the tools that Southgate didn't have to lead England to victory.
00:28So we want to know the opinion of people on the street.
00:30Oh, definitely not a German. Yes, and it still goes back to the war.
00:34I don't remember there being such an issue when Fabio Capello was our manager, who was an Italian,
00:38who was also one of the Axis powers during World War Two.
00:42So I don't think there's so much of an issue at all.
00:45I'd have waited a bit until the right manager come along. I think Pep, even though he's a Man City manager,
00:49I don't think Pep will be at City, hopefully for the end of the season. Could have went for somebody like Pep,
00:55Simone, there's a lot of other managers. They should not have had a German at the end of the day.
00:58And look at other international clubs. They have managers from
01:02very much rival countries, politically and in the world of football as well.
01:07They're our biggest rivals. It's like Ronaldo going from Manchester to City. It didn't happen for a reason.
01:12There's certain people and places you don't mix, and Germans and Englands, on the football pitch,
01:18OK, we've gone a long way since, on the football pitch, you don't mix Germans and England.
01:22I'm not so much worried. I think it was good for Southgate to leave when he could because,
01:28you know, he did try. He always came this close, but no cigar, you know.
01:32So it's good to have a fresh face and good to see what he shapes up and where the future goes for him.
01:37There are two arguments. One, being that Germany are our nation's biggest footballing rivals, harking all the way back to
01:421966 and even earlier. And the second, that it doesn't really matter. Tuchel's a great coach with a really good history,
01:49a really good background behind him and a good tactical base.
01:53Could it be the man to spur us on to win our first tournament since 1966?
