00:00You've probably heard about the keto diet, it's the newest hype, all the papers are
00:05writing about it and the interest online is just exploding.
00:10So what is the keto diet?
00:13What does keto even mean and how is it done?

00:26What does the word keto mean?
00:29Basically, the body can run on two different fuels.
00:33One is sugar from carbohydrates in the food we eat and that's what most people today primarily

01:04Even the brain can become fueled by fat.
01:07When the body is out of sugar, fat is converted in the liver into energy molecules called
01:13ketones that fuel the brain.
01:16And the diet that results in this is called ketogenic, meaning it produces ketones.
01:25And that's why the diet is called the keto diet.
01:28Being fueled mostly by fat, a state called ketosis, has many benefits, including that
01:35you become a fat-burning machine.
01:38It's perfect for weight loss without hunger, burning fat 24-7 even when you're sleeping.
01:45It also gives you tons of energy.
01:48You'll basically never run out.
01:50While the keto diet has become super popular in the last few years, it's actually not entirely
01:56new.
01:58The foundation of keto is something old that you've heard about a million times.
02:04It's a strict low-carb diet.
02:08It's a gluten-free diet.
02:10It's similar to the paleo diet, and it's very close to the old and well-known Atkins diet.
02:16The basic idea is super simple and based on real foods.
