00:00When it comes to Costco, should you wagyu?
00:03Will their filet mignon turn you on?
00:06Or should you say goodbye to their ribeye?
00:09You normally eat A5 Wagyu in small amounts, simply because the intense marbling makes
00:14every bite super rich.
00:16But that doesn't mean you can't fork over the money to get a huge slab of the stuff.
00:21Costco, being the come-here-for-huge-amounts-of-stuff kind of place, offers an 11-pound Japanese
00:27Wagyu New York Strip loin roast for anyone who needs serious beef in their life.
00:32One look at this chunk of meat tells you you're in for a fabulously rich steak dinner.
00:37While this slab of meat doesn't come cheap at nearly 80 bucks a pound, the majority of
00:41customers who ordered it were more than satisfied.
00:44It holds a nearly five-star rating on the Costco website, with customers saying things
00:49like,
00:50Whether you're a Wagyu connoisseur or someone who simply wants to have a mind-blowing meal,
01:02this might just be the beef play for you.
01:05Who doesn't want to think about delicious, savory beef tamales from Texas when they're
01:09hungry?
01:10Sadly, the Texas Tamale Company Beef Tamales at Costco aren't able to take the fun of the
01:15company name and translate it into a fun eating experience.
01:19As several customers point out in the reviews, the tamales are very small, which is always
01:23a bummer when you're expecting something that's going to fill you up properly, and you end
01:27up having to eat a dozen of them to fulfill your appetite.
01:30While that's definitely a downside, what makes it worse is the seasoned beef doesn't have
01:34a lot of flavor, so you're getting something really small and bland with each box.
01:39And at 550 milligrams of sodium for every two tamales, or 24 percent of your daily recommended
01:46amount, your blood pressure might not feel thrilled you're tossing back a bunch of these.
01:51If there's one cut of steak that could intimidate every other cut, it's the tomahawk.
01:56A tomahawk steak means business, and Costco offers Rustelli Market Fresh Tomahawk Steaks
02:01to all those looking for an aggressively meaty way to quell their appetites.
02:06These steaks are made using USDA Choice Black Angus beef, so you know you're getting quality
02:10meat.
02:11There's a solid amount of marbling that runs through each steak, and that means all that
02:15flavor-packed fat is going to seep deep into the steak while it cooks to make each bite
02:20super tender.
02:22Each tomahawk steak runs anywhere from 38 to 42 ounces, so these things are huge.
02:27Tons of Costco shoppers who made this purchase were absolutely delighted, calling the quality
02:32of the meat superb, and one person saying they were the best steaks we ever had.
02:38When you think of something made Mediterranean-style, you expect it to pack a lot of deep, robust
02:43flavors like a burst of lemon or parsley and cumin and black pepper.
02:47Well, don't let yourself be led down a path of disappointment with Costco's West End Cuisine
02:51Mediterranean-Style Grilled Chicken Skewers, because it's definitely easy to read the words
02:56Mediterranean-Style and get excited.
02:59While some Costco shoppers applauded the convenience of the product, we found the lack of Mediterranean
03:04flavors frustrating.
03:05When you're standing in line at Costco ready to check out, you picture a near future where
03:10you bite into a succulent skewer of chicken that's erupting with a potpourri of tastes.
03:15But that's exactly what you don't get.
03:17Not only are the Mediterranean flavors barely noticeable, but there sure is one hefty smack
03:22of salt in each bite.
03:24Two skewers pack nearly a third of the daily recommended sodium intake, which makes these
03:29a hard pass.
03:32When a meal is able to balance a sweet profile alongside a savory one, your palate is going
03:36to feel grateful.
03:37So you should definitely seek out the Fully Cooked Roasted Duck with Orange Sauce.
03:42This is a fantastically balanced meal that hits all the right spots on your tongue.
03:47The ducks used here are white Pekin ducks, and not only are they humanely raised, according
03:52to Costco, but they adhere strictly to the Maple Leaf Farm's Trident Stewardship Duck
03:57Well-Being Guidelines, so you know you won't ingest a boatload of hormones.
04:02The orange sauce is a thick, rich glaze full of sweet, citrusy flavors that pair well with
04:07the rich, juicy meat of the duck.
04:09The duck is fully cooked, and at 19 grams of protein per serving, you get a hearty and
04:14super tasty meal.
04:16The seven-pound duck is pricey at around $190, so maybe save this buy for a special occasion
04:22with a large group.
04:24Rib-eye steaks are prized for their gray marbling, which makes them super juicy and packed full
04:29of explode-in-your-mouth juicy flavors after they come off the grill.
04:33But what's the answer when you're trying to avoid red meat but still crave a tender cut
04:37of rib-eye?
04:38Costco has an answer for that question, in the form of Ristelli's Pork Rib-Eye Steaks,
04:43but it's definitely not an answer you should take to heart.
04:46We found that the juicy tenderness you think of when you picture a rib-eye is lacking — hard.
04:51The Costco website states these pork rib-eye are incredibly juicy and eager to please.
04:57If only that were true.
04:59While a straight-up beef meatball is awesome, sometimes you have to start mixing and matching
05:03different ingredients so you get a truly amazing meatball experience.
05:07This is the case with the Amy Liu Cranberry and Jalapeno Chicken Meatballs at Costco.
05:11The cranberry and jalapenos are distributed really well in each meatball, so you never
05:16get one that's too sweet or too spicy.
05:18It's that triple threat of sweet, spicy, and meaty that really hits the palate right.
05:23The chicken used is raised without antibiotics, and with only 8 grams of fat per four meatballs,
05:29you won't have to feel guilty.
05:30As one Costco adds, a little goat cheese really puts these meatballs over the top.
05:36How do you make a plate of spaghetti better?
05:38Drop in a few meatballs.
05:40Costco offers their Kirkland Signature meatballs, but you're gonna want to investigate some
05:44other meatball options before settling on these.
05:47You get 140 meatballs in a bag, so quantity definitely isn't an issue.
05:52It's the flavor and the nutritional facts that'll have you opting for something else.
05:57The meatballs are incredibly dense and salty, which almost makes it feel like you're biting
06:01into a round bouillon cube.
06:03The use of a sauce might help cut through some of the salty flavors, but you'll still
06:08know you're ingesting a lot of sodium.
06:10Plus, since they're small, the urge to eat a whole bunch is strong, and that means taking
06:15in a lot of saturated fat.
06:17Skip these, and spend 20 minutes making your own meatballs.
06:21If you're in the mood for steak, and want something that makes you feel a bit more fancy
06:25than normal, enjoying a filet mignon is certainly one way to do it.
06:29Filet mignons are little, beefy medallions of goodness that are always recognizable by
06:34their round, petite shape.
06:35Well, if the time for feeling fancy is upon you, Costco sells packages of Kansas City
06:40Steak Company filet mignon steaks, and these are totally worth your appetite's time.
06:46Filet mignon is known for being incredibly tender, with an almost butter-like consistency.
06:51Keep in mind that it doesn't have anywhere near the kind of marbling you'd find in other
06:54cuts like ribeye or tomahawk, but that doesn't take away from these steaks at all.
06:59Every filet is aged up to 28 days for additional tenderness you can practically cut through
07:04with a fork.
07:05The overall rating for these steaks is a perfect 5 out of 5 stars, so you know these medallions
07:10are ready to hit your stomach with some savory force.
07:15But wait, maybe Wagyu isn't always a must-buy after all.
07:19When you see a piece of A5-grade Japanese Wagyu fall into the don't-buy category, questions
07:24begin to swirl.
07:25A5 Wagyu can do no wrong.
07:28Well, the A5 bacon-wrapped cubes at Costco managed to really screw up this version of
07:33the normally astounding meat.
07:35You don't normally see bad reviews on anything Wagyu, but customers certainly wanted to vent
07:39their frustrations this time around.
07:42One of the comments furiously states,
07:44"...the pieces of beef are so small that you have to remove the bacon or they would be
07:48so overcooked by the time the bacon was done, they would not be edible.
07:52Many of the pieces in the tray we cooked were nothing but gristle."
07:55Another wrote,
07:56"...the mystery cube meat was grizzled, chewy fat, and tendons.
08:00Nothing prime about this product.
08:02They are using any scraps left from the cow and marketing the product as cubes.
08:07Yikes all around.
08:08Don't make this your first A5 experience whatsoever."
08:13Lamb is one of those meats that tastes great, but a lot of people don't pencil it into their
08:17weekly eating schedules.
08:18Lamb has a gamier flavor than a lot of other varieties of meat, but that robustness is
08:23what makes it special.
08:24If you find yourself in need of some lamb in your life, Costco sells Rustelli grass-fed
08:28Frenched Lamb Racks.
08:30The lamb meat comes from Australia, and the fact that they're Frenched makes them look
08:34extra fancy when you meticulously lay them on the plate.
08:38With reviews that sing praises like,
08:40"...at rare or medium rare, these racks lead to a new taste dimension."
08:44And,
08:45"...the meat quality is what you'd expect at a fine dining restaurant."
08:49You can feel confident you're investing in great lamb meat.
08:52There are a ton of different ways to cook lamb, so snag yourself some of these Frenched
08:56Racks and explore the wonderful world of lamb.
