00:00Whether it's a Hot Pocket knockoff or a pot pie that doesn't take the cake, there are
00:04some frozen foods from Aldi that you don't want anywhere near your freezer.
00:08Or your tongue.
00:11Starting the morning off with a breakfast sandwich seems like a great idea, right?
00:14You get all your favorite breakfast foods, eggs, cheese, sausage, and bacon nicely nestled
00:18between two pieces of bread for a handheld vessel with a mission to get you stoked for
00:23the day ahead.
00:24This all sounds great to me.
00:27But if you're thinking about investing in the breakfast best sausage, egg, and cheese
00:30croissant at Aldi, you'd better think again.
00:33Let's start with taste.
00:34First, you expect a croissant to have a delicate texture, thanks to the butter and lamination.
00:39But these are frozen.
00:41When they cook, the bread becomes tough and crumbly.
00:44The cheese has a plastic-like quality to it, and both the egg patty and sausage disc are
00:48beyond rubbery.
00:50It also warms up unevenly, so you have these off-putting cold spots peppered throughout.
00:54Yeah, we think we'll pass.
00:57Mornings can prove very stressful for many, so a quick and convenient way to get energy
01:00into your body is essential.
01:02This is what might draw your eye to the whole and simple breakfast bites in Aldi's frozen
01:06breakfast aisle.
01:07However, don't be fooled by the photo on the box and the promise of 13 grams of protein
01:11per serving.
01:13These are breakfast bites that are much better left on the shelf.
01:16Starting your day off filling your body with poor nutrition is a recipe for disaster, plain
01:20and simple.
01:21Your body always wants to operate at peak performance, but these breakfast bites will
01:25deter you from that.
01:26If you opt for the ham, pepper, and cheddar bites, you're tossing back small bites packed
01:30with 240 calories, 9 grams of saturated fat, and 350 milligrams of sodium.
01:36And don't think for one second that the turkey, sausage, and spinach option is much better.
01:41Let's face it, when your appetite is calling for a hot slice of pizza, there really is
01:45no other food you can supply it that'll scratch that itch.
01:48Not pizza, not pizza, not pizza.
01:52Pizza time is serious, so having a few frozen options in your freezer on hand alleviates
01:56all the traveling you have to do to grab a fresh pie.
01:59However, if you're at Aldi and you see a box of Reggio's sausage pizza staring back at
02:03you, you pass that box right on by.
02:06This is one frozen pizza that definitely doesn't earn its place anywhere in your freezer.
02:11Now these pizzas are dinner size, which means you can pretty much put away a whole pie if
02:15you're really hungry.
02:16But your body definitely doesn't want or need 18 grams of fat, 5 grams of saturated fat,
02:2249 grams of carbs, and over 700 milligrams of sodium.
02:27On top of that, the texture of the sausage is rubbery and the cheese is rather bland.
02:32After a heavy meal full of rich and hearty dishes, a sugary blast of dessert can really
02:37push dinner over the top.
02:38And you better believe that if you have guests over to eat and you break out a container
02:42of specialty-selected frozen cream puffs, you're gonna get people pretty excited.
02:47The little morsels of light, delicate breading filled with rich cream top off an evening
02:51in one of the most delicious ways possible.
02:54As tasty as they might be, you should keep them far away from your mouth.
02:58Since these puffs are bite-sized, it's too easy to toss back several of them.
03:02And that's a big issue in terms of their nutrition.
03:05Let's say you scarf down three cream puffs.
03:07You just smacked your body with over 11 grams of fat, 7 grams of saturated fat, and almost
03:1320% of your daily cholesterol intake.
03:15This means anyone who really decides to go hard on the cream puffs is flooding their
03:19system with unnecessary cholesterol.
03:22Are these puffs tasty?
03:23Most definitely.
03:24But they're simply not worth the poor nutrition.
03:28When hunger strikes, it comes in all kinds of forms.
03:31Sometimes it's the kind that only requires a small snack.
03:34But other times, the belly beast kicks in with a force akin to what Harold and Kumar
03:38felt when they made their incredibly arduous journey to White Castle.
03:42Well, if you get smacked with Harold and Kumar-level hunger that only White Castle can stave off,
03:47you can simply pick yourself up a box of the frozen White Castle cheese sliders for
03:51the sake of convenience.
03:52But just because you can doesn't mean that you should.
03:56Now it's no secret that fast food isn't the pinnacle of healthy eating.
03:59In fact, it's far from it.
04:01And that's why these frozen cheese sliders don't belong in your fridge.
04:05Each box comes with three plastic sleeves containing two sliders, making two sliders
04:09a single serving.
04:11Along with both of the slider-sized burgers is 18 grams of fat, 8 grams of saturated fat,
04:161 gram of trans fat, and over half a gram of sodium.
04:20These things are miniature vessels of unhealthiness, and you would be wise to leave them out of
04:23your shopping cart.
04:25Trust us, your waistline and your toilet will thank you.
04:30There are so many questions that pop into your head when you're in the mood for a burger.
04:34What kind of meat are you going to use?
04:35What kind of fixings will you pile on top of the patty?
04:38Do you want it rare or well done?
04:40All these pertinent questions loom large because when it's burger time, you want to make sure
04:44your appetite is invested in something worthwhile.
04:46Well, if you're wondering whether or not the Bremer Angus cheeseburgers will check the
04:50right boxes, they won't.
04:52Now, keep in mind, these cheeseburgers are basically Aldi's attempt to recreate everyone's
04:56favorite microwavable fare.
04:58Hot pockets!
05:01The cheese top patty has a flatbread casing around it, so the meat and cheese flavors
05:05are encased in the bread.
05:06Well, sadly, there isn't really much flavor to seal in.
05:10The beef is super bland, and the cheese has a gummy texture.
05:13These things aren't exactly great on the nutrition scale, either.
05:17With 340 mg of sodium, 4 g of saturated fat, and 160 calories per flatbread burger.
05:23All of this makes the fact that there are 10 g of protein in them seem somewhat irrelevant.
05:29While cream cheese and jalapenos might at first seem like an odd combination, once you
05:33actually try it, you realize the cream cheese does a great job of coating your mouth with
05:37a cooling sensation to offset the spicy kick of the jalapeno.
05:41Now add a deep fryer to the whole mix, and you have yourself a super solid appetizer
05:45for parties.
05:46However, it might be best to avoid the Appetito's stuffed jalapenos with cream cheese at Aldi
05:51for a couple of different reasons.
05:52Let's start with the nutritional content.
05:55Now, once you start combining a heavy cheese and a deep fryer, you automatically know that
05:59you're not dealing with healthy cuisine.
06:01So it shouldn't come as a huge shock that in only three of these stuffed peppers lies
06:06230 calories, almost a third of your daily saturated fat intake, and 25 g of carbs.
06:12Even if you can stomach all that, the flavor here lacks as well.
06:15The cream cheese often comes out runny, which is very unappealing.
06:19And the outer breading burns easily.
06:21If you're looking to get your stuffed jalapenos on, this is not the way to do it.
06:26Whether you're having some friends over for a weekend get-together or just cranking
06:30through Netflix shows on your own, having a big ol' pile of freshly baked beef taquitos
06:35on a tray nearby is never a bad idea.
06:38So long as the outer corn tortilla is crispy and the meat inside is tender and savory,
06:42you really can't go wrong.
06:43Well, the Casa Mamita Beef Taquitos at Aldi certainly found more than one way to go wrong,
06:48which is why they don't deserve a spot on your shopping list.
06:52Even after they are baked in the oven, the corn tortillas that wrap the beef are mostly
06:55chewy as opposed to crispy.
06:57Once you bite down, things don't really get any better.
07:00The meat inside tastes super salty and is nowhere as tender as you'd like.
07:04You get the sensation of chewing on dried strips of beef jerky.
07:08And the nutrition here is nothing to brag about.
07:10Three small taquitos pack 240 calories, 26 grams of carbs, and 340 milligrams of sodium.
07:17The best part of diving into a freshly made chicken pot pie, other than the delicious
07:21flavor of course, is the first time you break open the buttery crust on top.
07:26Your nostrils are graced with those rich smells that erupt from within the flaky pastry.
07:30This is what makes the Bremer Chicken Pot Pie such a bummer.
07:34Let's start with the pastry pie itself.
07:36Flaky and buttery it certainly isn't, the edge around the pie comes out hard as a rock
07:40and crumbles everywhere when you try to bite into it.
07:43Once you break through the pie's edible innards, your nose isn't met with a lovely aroma.
07:47And there's a thick off-putting heaviness that leaves you suspicious about the quality
07:51of the ingredients used.
07:54If you're after foods packed with rich, vibrant, and savory flavors, you may look to Asian
07:58cuisine to find dishes with tastes and sensations that render your tongue numb with satisfaction.
08:03Take potstickers, for example.
08:05These bite-sized dumplings are encased in a super delicate wrapper that allows for the
08:09maximum flavors of the meat and vegetables stuffing inside to hit your palate.
08:13However, the Fuchsia Asian Inspirations Pork Potstickers at Aldi managed to do the opposite.
08:18The pork filling in each potsticker is juicy, but not in a great way.
08:22It feels like you're biting into a juicy, warm loaf of compact sodium.
08:27Gross!
08:28The dumpling casings are very delicate, but the pleasant mouthfeel they cause is instantly
08:33canceled out by the off-putting saltiness of the pork.
08:36In terms of nutritional value, there's nothing here to boast about.
08:39Tossing back three potstickers nets you just under half a gram of sodium, 150 calories,
08:44as well as some sugar.
08:46When it's time to enjoy Asian food, this isn't the way to do it.
08:50Rice can get a bad rap as being a boring, bland food.
08:53However, there are tons of ways to spruce up a plate of basic rice and turn it into
08:57something super savory and packed with delicious ingredients.
09:01Well, if you don't feel like heading out to the nearest Asian restaurant for some great
09:04rice options, Aldi has Fuchsia Asian Inspirations Chicken Fried Rice available for purchase.
09:10After a few bites of this dish, you may realize you should've just made the trip to a local
09:14restaurant and saved yourself the disappointment.
09:16Much of the rice becomes a very tough texture after cooking.
09:19The chunks of chicken are so dry that even the sauce that it comes in can't seep into
09:24the chicken enough to solve the problem.
09:26Flavor-wise, this dish is a disappointment.
09:30Cheesecake is the kind of dessert that can push you into a food coma in the most delicious
09:34way possible.
09:35If you eat a huge dinner but can still fit a bit more before your stomach waves the white
09:39flag, cheesecake is the perfect food to get that flag frantically shaking back and forth.
09:44Aldi sells assorted varieties of Belmont cheesecake, and even though each slice hits those rich
09:49and creamy notes really well, the nutritional value in them would make any doctor furious.
09:55If you take down one slice, which is super easy to do because the flavor and texture
09:59of each slice is incredible, you'll be hammered with 320 calories, 100% of your daily
10:06sugar intake, and over half of your saturated fat intake.
10:09However, it's temptingly easy to brush these facts aside once you take a bite because each
10:13slice erupts with tremendous flavor.
10:17But if you're looking out for your health or watching your sugar, then leave the Belmont
10:21slices far away from your freezer.
