00:00When you get seen, when you have the belief, it changes your life entirely.
00:13Oh, I get goosebumps now.
00:22Hi everyone, this is Sandra Lim here at Miss Universe Malaysia 2024.
00:26The winner of Miss Universe Malaysia 2024 is Sandra Lim!
00:37Sandra, you are now Miss Universe Malaysia 2024!
00:46I'm an actress and artist here in Malaysia. I'm currently 23 years old.
00:51So I'm very active in the entertainment field.
00:53We do movies, films, and also advertisements sometimes.
00:57I'm actually a martial artist.
00:59Growing up, I did martial arts and I was a track and field athlete as well.
01:03So I competed nationals and internationals before this.
01:07So yeah, I really carry myself that kind of strength and power as an athlete.
01:11And I want to bring that into the pageantry world as well.
01:14Why I would love to join pageant in the first place is that I saw this as a platform,
01:19an opportunity to do good and to be a force for good in a society.
01:25I feel like this is a very good responsibility for me to carry.
01:30I see myself as the representation of the youth.
01:33Me being in the 2000s, I feel like I don't see many of the people at my age doing what I do now.
01:40So I want to lead that kind of motive and be the example to them as well.
01:45I hope that if I do more, they would see and they would be encouraged to do more as well.
01:50To me, in pageantry, you need to hold a true purpose in heart.
01:54It's not so much about competing with other beautiful girls and see who is more beautiful.
01:59I don't think that's it.
02:01To me, the meaning behind pageantry has always been about knowing what you want to do with this title,
02:07knowing what you want to do with this platform.
02:09I think it's really important for us to use it for good
02:13and know that we are the representation of this title and we carry the motive,
02:19we carry the message of what we want to bring to the audience and to people that look up to us.
02:32You know, as a child, I've gone through dark times.
02:35I know how it's like to be defeated by life and think that there's no meaning to life.
02:40I couldn't find a purpose.
02:42At the time, I was so depressed and I was at such an age, I was 10 years old,
02:48that I didn't even know what depression was, but I was facing and struggling with it
02:52and no one there was aware that I was struggling with it because I was quiet.
02:57So I'm sure many of the children as well face that.
03:00So I really find myself needing to go and help them because I was helped.
03:05At the time, an act of kindness, someone came and told me,
03:09Hey, I saw that you did sports, maybe you should try.
03:13I see that you have a potential in it.
03:15Just that one sentence itself, it seems so simple, but my God, it changed my life.
03:21When you get seen, when you have the belief, it changes your life entirely.
03:27Oh, I get goosebumps now.
03:29It changes your life entirely.
03:31I've experienced that and I know how important it is to give that to our children as well.
03:36And I think that we, as our leader of the society now,
03:40I think that what we could do for them is to slowly make them explore this world,
03:46allow them to explore this world.
03:48I'm also very grateful that Evocating is really supportive in this
03:52because people might think that, okay, I'm just bringing out the kids to play and then go home.
03:57It's not about that.
03:59When we go there, we interact with them, we talk to them,
04:02and then we bring them out to something that they have been longing for.
04:06We didn't just choose anywhere.
04:08We've heard, we asked them, where do you want to go and play?
04:12They did their research, they're on it together, planning this together.
04:16So we've heard that, oh, they want to play carding.
04:19And then I started planning this whole thing.
04:21I started getting the sponsors and everything.
04:23And I'm so glad that all of you are here as well to support this.
04:27And they are so happy.
04:29I definitely do see myself bringing this bigger and bigger because we're just starting now.
04:34Now I've just signed an ambassadorship with Shelter Home for Children.
04:38So we see ourselves to do more.
04:40I'm very happy that this is the first step,
04:42one of the first events that we're creating for the Shelter Home for Children.
04:47But now we have just created a window for charity funds.
04:50So it will go directly to the Shelter Home for Children and to our children, of course.
04:55Miss Sandra, she's a very good person.
04:58She taught us how to be confident, how to share and talk boldly.
05:03And then she also taught us some things where how to come out of our own problems and to face it.
05:13That's what she taught us.
05:14And also Miss Sandra Lim, she also communicated with us some of her things,
05:19how she's going through, how she became a model, she told us.
05:23And that really boosted up my energy to really study hard to become someone like her.
05:28She's good. She's kind.
05:30And she also let, she comfort other people to smile even though they are sad or angry.
05:37She said that even though you smile, then people around you, they will see and they also will feel happy.
05:44I wish her like the best of luck because I hope,
05:47which is like representing like the whole country of Malaysia.
05:50So I really hope she wins for Malaysia.
05:54I want to thank her for everything that she's taking her leadership for us, for our country.
06:00I wish her the best of luck.
06:02And I also wish that she'll win the thing.
06:06I want to send to her all the best and I hope that she'll become,
06:10she'll win the competition because she really has the model like this.
06:15And after she win that, I hope that she don't forget us.
06:17I hope that she comes again and helps other homes like this.
06:24My preparation so far, we only have two weeks.
06:27So we are doing our very best to gather everything because we have so much to prepare.
06:34It's not just about the catwalk. It's not just about the beautiful gowns.
06:38But also in terms of my purpose, we really have to align, you know, align myself.
06:44And also, you know, I think what's taking up my entire space right now is all the outfits that I have to prepare for Mexico.
06:53So I don't have much time yet to prepare my speaking, you know, myself.
06:59So it's okay. We take the progress slowly. We trust the progress.
07:04So I'm an athlete and I would love to do a workout and prepare myself physically for the competition.
07:11I'm heading home every night around 2 a.m. just after shoot and shoot and shoot.
07:17So we're getting everything ready for Mexico.
07:20So once we go for the competition, it's going to go all out.
07:32For me, Remaja Malaysia is innovative and progressive.
07:37I think that you doing this and together with me is what defines what the youth could do in this country.
07:43I think that we should really like be more progressive and coming out and be more motivated to create change in our society.
07:51Because it's not just me. It's you guys together as well.
07:54Let's do this together, the youth of Malaysia.
