00:59When hope at times seems all but lost, sometimes it's hard to stick to a warrior code.
01:04Just before, of course, we get a closer look at the PlayStation, the Shapes Collection, Ghost of Tsushima, Jin Sakai,
01:09I'd like to thank the folks over at Spin Master that kindly provided this sample.
01:13The samurai of Sakai stands at five and a half inches in height,
01:17or the Ghost of Vengeance is going to be about 14 centimeters tall.
01:21Now, if I was to bring in the other characters we've already had a look at,
01:24some could easily say that Sakai is clearly the shortest.
01:27First of all, here's what the figure looks like with the God of War Kratos.
01:30Here's also what he looks like with Atreus. He's actually pretty close in size to Atreus.
01:34And here's also what the figure looks like with the recently looked at Horizon Forbidden West,
01:38if I can just actually stand and not knock over anybody else.
01:41Here's what the figure also looks like with Varl.
01:43Not only would I say Jin Sakai is my favorite so far from the Shapes Collection,
01:47but he happens to be also the only character so far that hasn't come included with swappable hands.
01:51Look at that. He does, though, manage to come included with a sheath and a sword.
01:54He does also come included with his mampo mask.
01:57The mampo mask is one thing that samurais do wear.
02:00You can see it does have the facial features still shown down below,
02:03but this would be something that they would use as a mouth guard.
02:06When you're looking at this, though, and you're putting this on the figure's face,
02:09you would think that these loops would be the thing that would wrap around Sakai's ears,
02:12but they don't really. In fact, when you're putting it on his face,
02:15it's more just a case of friction forcing them.
02:17I mean, you could try to put them around his ears if you wanted to,
02:20but I don't think they necessarily need them.
02:22I mean, if anything, if you just put the mask on the way that it is,
02:25just kind of get it wedged at the bottom of his face, that seems to be more than enough.
02:29But I guess just to ensure that the mask isn't going to come off,
02:32there is those little loops, and you can just tuck them around Jin's ears.
02:36Just like that.
02:38I would say, like, the mask does add a little bit of extra allure to the character.
02:42The thing, unfortunately, about that, though, with the Mambo mask on top of his face like that,
02:45it loses all the fine features that they sculpted on his face in the first place.
02:49Though, to show you what this looks like before I take the mask back off.
02:53Very cool, though.
02:55There doesn't seem to be a place, though, storage-wise,
02:57that you can store the mask when it's not displayed on Sakai.
03:00So once you remove it, you may just want to have to put it in a bag
03:02with all the extra accessories that we haven't.
03:04Well, I'm not going to be planning to display along with the figures.
03:07I sort of got myself a little Ziploc bag.
03:09All those extra hands, by the way, even though Sakai doesn't have any,
03:12all go basically into that little bag, and I've just kind of written on that
03:14the shapes collection so I know where everything is.
03:17One thing that also can be displayed on the character, unlike his mask,
03:20is his sheath and sword.
03:23The sword obviously does fit inside the sheath.
03:25Just in case of sliding this in.
03:27Just like that.
03:29It's kind of tight in quarters, though, so you want to make sure.
03:31There we go.
03:33Fits all the way in there. It's got some really nice detailing, though.
03:35Look at the silver that they've added to the bottom of the sheath.
03:38And, of course, the actual handle here.
03:40Ah, pull that off. There we go.
03:42The hilt, as you can see, has some nice white added in there as well.
03:45Just below the guard, there's some additional gold.
03:47And, of course, the blade, a little bit on a softer side,
03:50is nicely done here, all in silver.
03:52Now, when I was taking this everything out of the packaging
03:54and then trying to figure out where everything was,
03:56first of all, I noticed that with Jin, his back cape came off very easily.
03:59In fact, it's actually one of the easiest things to fall off the figure,
04:02and we'll talk a little bit more about that.
04:04But actually, though, looking at where the sheath was supposed to go,
04:06I didn't recognize or didn't spot right away
04:08that there was a hole on the side of his belt.
04:10This was actually covered over in paint,
04:12or probably just residual plastic from the mold.
04:15So, right away, I didn't even notice where this hole was supposed to be.
04:18Sure enough, though, I looked over to the side
04:20and I saw what only could be like a little indentation of a hole,
04:23and I basically just then took the sheath,
04:25and I just doweled it in there.
04:27Eventually, though, freeing away whatever plastic was left behind,
04:30I made myself then the hole,
04:32and then you can take yourself the sheath,
04:34and that just plugs in place.
04:36The sheath, I noticed, though, you do have to apply a fair bit of pressure to it,
04:40but it does attach, though, onto the side of his belt.
04:43Sometimes, in fact, it was doing it earlier.
04:46I don't know why right now.
04:47Obviously, it's all because, of course, the camera's filming.
04:49Just plug that into the side of his belt.
04:52It is a little disappointing, though,
04:54because it's the only sheath that actually has removable sword.
04:57All the things that you're looking at right now,
04:59this sword is non-removable,
05:01and the one thing I really would have hoped,
05:03the back sword is not removable either.
05:05But anyways, you can take yourself the sword,
05:07and that just ...
05:08I want to make sure we've got it facing the right way.
05:10Sheath's inside.
05:12There we go.
05:13So we've got the storage space there.
05:15Again, the only thing that's really disappointing, though, with Jin
05:17is the fact that all these other swords are only just more teases than anything else.
05:20It looks decorative, and that's exactly all it's really going to be.
05:23You can't remove this sword,
05:25and you can't remove this sword that's on the back of his body.
05:27That's permanently there as well.
05:29The only thing that isn't, though, permanent is the cape.
05:31Now, the cape is a fairly soft plastic.
05:34Right underneath his collar,
05:36he's got basically a little handkerchief here.
05:38If you move that out of the way,
05:40there's a hole right there,
05:41and then this is plugging in place.
05:43It came off the first time when I took this out of the packaging,
05:45and every time that I tend to move this character around,
05:48this seems to be always something that falls off.
05:50At least, though, it's easy to put back in place,
05:52but you may find yourself looking to get this figure for yourself.
05:55This might be something that you're always having to take the time
05:57to put back onto the figure's body,
05:59because it does fall off very, very easily.
06:01If, though, looking at the closer look at his face,
06:03just move his handkerchief piece out of the way there,
06:06head sculpt-wise, it is probably easily my favorite so far
06:09we got from the Shapes Collection.
06:11Obviously, I think they've spent a lot of time crafting
06:14a very meticulously detailed face of the samurai.
06:17Well painted, too.
06:19You've got the additional gray down below for his stubble.
06:21I think the eyes have nicely been painted there as well,
06:23and you've got the little gold bandana that he has on top of his head.
06:26He also has his hair.
06:28Now, the hair is all tucked away back,
06:30but he's also got these little strands of what's left behind of his bandana,
06:33and those basically just drape on the back of his body.
06:36Again, this little piece here is separate from the rest of his body.
06:40You might find that's also something that as you move the figure around,
06:43this is going to move around on you.
06:45Really, a lot of good details going on.
06:47I don't feel like you get as many chances to see a lot of pops of color
06:49on Sakai here as maybe what we would have got before with Avian-like Varl.
06:53Varl had a lot of really bright colors.
06:55I mean, Sakai obviously keeps the colors quite dark.
06:58The samurai armor mostly is all done here in black plastic,
07:01and then they've just given it only just a little bit of gold.
07:04He's got some on his arms.
07:06He's got some obviously down below here on the skirting,
07:08and then he's got the belt coloring there added in the blue
07:10with some additional browns and greens.
07:12It's a really nice-looking costume overall.
07:14I'm a little, again, disappointed that this doesn't stay on better,
07:17but I mean, that's an easy fix.
07:19In fact, even if you want to, just take it off completely.
07:22Probably one of the reasons why they made this as removable as it was
07:25is just so that if you wanted to have Sakai displayed without it,
07:28it's a simple fix of just popping that off
07:30and leaving it off altogether if you want to.
07:33Again, the only other thing I would say
07:35is that I really wish that the swords were removable.
07:37I know that would have probably increased the cost of producing this figure
07:40because, again, they already give you really one sheath
07:42with a removable sword here,
07:44but man, the fact that he has those two already there,
07:47I just keep feeling like I want to go there and start unsheathing swords,
07:50but I just can't because everything is all just more molded,
07:53decorative pieces than anything else.
07:55Now, for the figure's articulation,
07:57we're going to go back to Sakai's head here.
07:59If you've already watched my reviews already of the Shapes Collection,
08:02you sort of already know the territory that we're going to be covering,
08:04but Sakai's head's going to be on an independent ball joint.
08:06It's going to rotate back and forth.
08:08Yes, the little handkerchief piece is going to move around a lot on you.
08:11It does move down, moves up,
08:13and, of course, you can also rock it back and forth as well.
08:16Underneath all this, there is also, as well, an additional ball joint.
08:19Not only can he move his head, but he can also move his neck the exact same directions.
08:23His arms come out. They hinge out.
08:25They were really tight. I noticed on this figure when I first took them out of the packaging,
08:28but they come out at about 90 degrees, maybe a little less than that.
08:31You can take, as well, Jin, and you can rotate his arms all the way around.
08:34He has a swivel bicep, but the swivel is actually closer to his shoulder.
08:38He has a single hinge, though, in his elbow,
08:40and then you can also rotate his forearm and rotate his hand.
08:44So that's a fair bit right there already.
08:46The upper torso is going to be on a ball joint.
08:48It isn't as movable, perhaps.
08:50It doesn't have, maybe, I don't know, the freedom I would say is like Varl.
08:53Varl had a lot more articulation, or at least a little bit more at his disposal, I would say, than Jin here.
08:58You can move it up and down, but you can kind of feel like it seems like it gets a little more hung up.
09:02Obviously, now you're also having to contend with the fact that you got yourself a sheathed sword on the side of his body.
09:07You want to make sure that you don't clip that.
09:09You clip that, obviously, that's going to pop off his belt again.
09:11The legs do split out.
09:13Again, you got the skirting on the front and on the back.
09:15They're a softer plastic.
09:17Doesn't seem to limit at all Sakai's leg movement.
09:19I mean, you can easily give this guy the splits.
09:21You can take his legs and you can move them forward.
09:23You can move them back.
09:25And if we lift up the skirting here, you can actually see there's a swivel cut right here.
09:29The figure does only seem to have a single hinge in his knee.
09:32Now, it could also be that he's got a double hinge, but it's kind of really hard to see.
09:36So what they've essentially done is they've taken the lower half of his leg
09:39and they've basically encased the top of it with like the additional part to his suit.
09:44So when you are moving his leg, you can kind of see that perhaps there's a double hinge,
09:47but it's really only just like if you get a double hinge, there we go.
09:51If you get the double hinge, you're going to now have this big gap space there on the fronts of his legs.
09:55I mean, it's a nice way that they've hidden everything,
09:57but when it comes to moving his legs out like this, it sort of now leaves a little gap in there.
10:01Because that's, unfortunately, that's really no way other way that they could have done this
10:04when it comes to constructing a figure.
10:06Again, when he's got the ankle pivot, he has that back and forth.
10:09You can also rock the ankle back and forth this way.
10:11And also Jin Sakai does also have pegs on the bottoms of his feet.
10:15By far, by far, this is my favorite figure we've gotten from the Shapes Collection.
10:19I honestly still feel like, you know, when it comes to Spin Master knocking these out of the park,
10:22they really have been doing a great job on the Shapes Collection lineup.
10:26Jin Sakai does have a lot more going for him.
10:28Funny though enough, he doesn't have swappable hands,
10:31but I guess the whole thing in mind is really why would you need to have swappable hands
10:34when it comes to a samurai like this?
10:36He really should always have his hands gripped and ready to go.
10:39Of course, bringing in the other figures we've already had a look at.
10:41There's Kratos.
10:43Maybe not as much necessarily in order because we did also look at Atreus,
10:46but there's also what he looks like with Horizon's Forbidden West Varle.
10:50And, of course, here's also what he looks like with Atreus.
10:53Normally, if I had started this line, I think I did start this line, in fact, with Kratos,
10:58I would have right out the gate said that God of War is my favorite game of all time,
11:01and then, therefore, Kratos would have been then my favorite character from the Shapes Collection.
11:05Sure enough, it ends up being a character from Ghost of Tsushima, Jin Sakai here.
11:10I just like the look of him.
11:12I really think it's a neat touch as well that they also included the mask there as well.
11:15Whether you want to display the character with a mambo mask or not,
11:18just the fact that they include something like this.
11:20Does he really need hands? I don't think he necessarily needs hands.
11:22I mean, he has hands already for holding his sword.
11:25The only thing, as mentioned already, that's a little disappointing about Jin here
11:28is not the sculpting, no, not the paint, not at all,
11:31but more just the fact that he does have these two extra swords that you can't really do anything with them.
11:35What I like to do with Jin Sakai is actually swing the cape out like this,
11:38so it looks like it's blowing in the wind.
11:40It's a pretty easy thing to pull off because it's pegged on the back of the figure's body the way that it is.
11:45It actually just rests on the sheath, as you can probably see right here.
11:49Even though it's disappointing that the sword doesn't unsheath,
11:51the sheath at least serves a purpose by keeping the cape in place.
11:55You can also see as well, I don't have the figure displayed currently with the mambo mask.
11:59It's unfortunately one of the casualties of having such a stellar sculpt like this
12:03is I really don't want to have to mask it by displaying it with the mambo mask.
12:07I wish, if anything, maybe Spin Master could have put a peg or something on his belt,
12:11similar to what they did on the other side to store the sheath,
12:14so that there was at least a place to store the mambo mask if you didn't want to have it on Jin's face.
12:19The figure does have posability where he needs to have it.
12:22Truth be told, maybe if he had had double hinges in his elbows,
12:25would have made things a little bit easier, considering this guy's a samurai and all.
12:28But even with only just single hinges at his disposal,
12:31it's more than enough for him to hold the sword with both his hands.
12:34From head to toe though, Jin Sakai is my favorite from the Shapes Collection.
12:38I really like the way this guy came together.
12:40What do you guys think of the figures that we've looked at so far from the Shapes Collection?
12:43Which one would you say is your favorite?
12:45Perhaps as well, you agree with me, it's Jin Sakai?
12:47Let me know what you think of it down below in the comment section.
12:50Once again, a big thank you to the folks over at Spin Master
12:52that did provide this sample of the PlayStation Shapes Collection,
12:55Ghost of Tsushima Jin Sakai.
12:58If you guys did enjoy this video, do it a solid throw to like.
