A woman who falsely claimed in a TikTok podcast that she was coerced into prostitution to settle her father's loan shark debt has been slapped with a RM4,000 fine in lieu of nine months' jail.

00:21The 26-year-old admitted to making the false statements from her apartment in Ampang Jajar,
00:27Butterworth at about 3.30pm on July 26.
00:32Her actions were said to have caused fear among the public and triggered a police investigation.
00:37The offence under Section 505 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years,
00:43a fine or both upon conviction.
00:46During mitigation, the accused's lawyer Nakia Zulkarnain from the National Legal Aid Foundation
00:52appealed to the court to impose a minimum fine.
00:55She said her client earned 1,600 ringgit a month as a security guard and has a mother
01:01and two children to support.
01:03Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Attika Asharaf Ali, however, urged the court to take into
01:09account public interest and to impose a deterrent sentence.
01:13According to the facts of the case, Wan Ainsyatul claimed in the TikTok Live program that her
01:18father was 20,000 ringgit in debt and gave loan sharks the names and addresses of his
01:24family members.
01:25She added that the Ah Long had forced her to work in a brothel since February.
01:30Police tracked her down and found that the story was fabricated.
