00:00Hi, my name is Adrian de la Peña, and I am the writer, director, and producer of the
00:06project Nahuali.
00:11So Nahuali, it's a creature feature revenge thriller rooted in the Mesoamerican pre-Hispanic
00:17lore and mythology of the Nahuales.
00:20With this film, what I want to do is grab a little bit of each of the representations
00:25of the Nahuales and create my own version.
00:29And bridging that gap to an international audience, because horror genre allows us to
00:36get to know other cultures.
00:38Hi, my name is Itzel Velazquez Martinez, and I am playing Rebecca.
00:44I honestly really admire this crew.
00:48This is the coolest I've ever, ever shot in, and for some of the crew, they can say the
00:53same thing.
00:55Working with Adrian, it has been really cool.
01:00I think it has been really special to be able to work with another fellow Mexican director.
01:05It's really beautiful when you get to share the same culture, the same experiences, the
01:10same language.
01:11The fact that he wrote this script, it touches a bit on our culture, is bringing it here
01:16to North America.
01:18I think we need more stories like that.
01:21I am super excited that I get to be a part of it.
01:24Oh man, this is insane.
01:28Yeah!
01:29Yeah, and working with Adrian has been really fun.
01:34He's so open to ideas, and it's great to have a director that's open to ideas, but does
01:41have a vision.
01:42So he molds the ideas that you give him into his vision.
01:47Yeah, Nuali's a clever play on the genre.
01:53This story in itself is more about how all of these characters are navigating trauma,
01:59and how they are overcoming that trauma.
02:02I would like to communicate that there is a way for everyone to get their confidence
02:09back, their power back.
02:11Using a creature as a metaphor for that, I think it's something beautiful, but something
02:16that horror genre allows us to do, and adding depth into these deeper emotions and deeper
02:27connections.
02:28I want the viewer to take away, if they just watch this five minutes short, to be surprised,
02:34scared, emotionally connected with it.
