00:00Throughout their romantic journey together,
00:02Drew Scott and Linda Phan have found a fun, quirky way of celebrating their love.
00:06Hey, their silly, sugary-sweet bond might not be everybody's cup of tea,
00:11but it sure works for them.
00:12What was the defining moment when you knew she was the one? It was the first time I saw her."
00:16When Drew Scott first met Linda Phan in 2010, he was awestruck. Linda happened to be helping out
00:21at Toronto's Fashion Week, and Drew and his twin Jonathan Scott were there to promote their brand
00:26new show, The Property Brothers. Rather than rush in to introduce himself,
00:30Drew took some time to admire Linda from afar. On the Greg McKeown podcast,
00:34Drew gushed,
00:35"...she just had this energy around her that was just this fun-loving personality."
00:39His mind raced as he quickly decided how to approach her. Instead of a compliment,
00:42Drew acted like he was more interested in her beverage. Linda later told People magazine,
00:47"...Drew came up to me and said, hey, where'd you get that water?"
00:49"...I walked up with my best pickup line and said, where'd I get a water?"
00:53Drew's unconventional strategy worked.
00:55And without missing a beat, Linda responded by asking him about the pizza he was carrying.
01:00Linda's quick wit not only endeared her to Drew when they met,
01:03but it also helped her make a great impression on Jonathan, and one of the twins' childhood
01:08friends. The trio liked to make a game of collectively completing jokes,
01:11and Linda jumped in without hesitation. This was also a pivotal experience for Drew. He told
01:16The New York Times,
01:17"...in that one moment, I knew we were on the same parallel. When you're in love, you mesh that way."
01:23When Drew and Linda first met, she was in a relationship with someone else.
01:26After their first meeting, they parted as friends, and she gave Drew her number.
01:30Months later, when Drew had some free time amid the shooting schedule of The Property Brothers,
01:34he contacted Linda to hang out. After reading her text message,
01:37Drew figured that Linda was now single. They began exploring their romantic connection.
01:41Their first date started off pretty by the book, Dinner and a Mug of Hot Chocolate.
01:46The evening took an unexpected turn when Linda had plans to go solo to a party afterward.
01:50Drew, however, got excited that there was going to be karaoke at the celebration,
01:54so he invited himself to go with her.
01:56Awkwardly, there was a mix-up, and Linda's friend was delayed,
01:59leaving her and Scott alone in the karaoke room. Undaunted,
02:02Drew confidently busted out some of his go-to songs. As fate would have it,
02:06it's lucky he did. While Scott was singing karaoke, Linda was hooked.
02:09For their second date, Drew and Linda met up in Las Vegas,
02:12where Drew was living and Linda was attending a bachelorette party. This date was memorable,
02:17although not in a great way. Linda got a little carried away with partying,
02:20and Drew sweetly came to her aid. On their podcast At Home with Linda and Drew Scott,
02:24he explained that he held her hair back because she had gotten sick.
02:28Who knows me better? Is it my twin brother or is it my wife?"
02:32Two years after Linda met Drew, she moved in with him — and his twin brother, Jonathan.
02:36The trio were roommates for years while Jonathan was single, and they even shared
02:39accommodations when they traveled together while working on The Property Brothers.
02:42During this time, Linda worked as Drew and Jonathan's creative director.
02:46Drew told Entertainment Tonight,
02:47"...she has an architectural design background as well, and she has brilliant ideas,
02:52and has great aesthetic, and she's really our property sister."
02:55All this might have added a strange dimension to Drew and Linda's relationship,
02:59but according to Linda, the situation was comfortable. In 2017, she told People,
03:03"...people were always like, isn't that weird? But there's an ease to it.
03:07It's nice and really convenient to be able to have meetings with the people you live with."
03:10At the time, Linda and the brothers were devoting most of their time to professional commitments.
03:14However, once they decided to ease up on their grueling work schedule and shift their focus to
03:19other things, Linda felt they needed to change their living arrangements. On their podcast,
03:23she shared,
03:24"...it was fun for the first few years, and then it's like, hmm, I think we need our alone time."
03:29It took Drew and Linda six years to get engaged
03:32This long wait wasn't a big deal for Linda, since marriage wasn't really a life goal for her.
03:37Drew, on the other hand, had been dreaming about his future wedding day since childhood.
03:40Once he decided to propose, Drew went all in with an elaborate proposal. Because he lived
03:45and worked with Linda and they shared a tablet, it was challenging to keep everything under wraps.
03:49Drew told People,
03:50"...I had to use an old email that I haven't used in years. I had to have Jonathan calling friends."
03:54Even with all these precautions, Drew was ready to bail on the project because he
03:58mistakenly believed Linda was aware of his plans. On At Home with Linda and Drew Scott,
04:03she joked,
04:04"...Drew has a habit of ruining his own surprises. He'll plan this
04:07elaborate thing and then he'll be like, can I just tell you?"
04:10Luckily, Drew kept his cool, and was successful at surprising Linda. He designed her diamond ring
04:15and commissioned a bakery to make a massive, whimsical cake in honor of her favorite book,
04:19Oh! The Places You'll Go. As a nod to the way he first won her heart,
04:22Drew played a recording of himself singing Marry Me by Train. He also planned some
04:26scripted remarks, but Drew was so emotional that he had difficulty getting the words out.
04:31This is the perfect DIY for your wedding day, and it's kind of like a walk down memory lane.
04:35It is, by the way, whoever has the best handwriting in your relationship,
04:38they should write the wall."
04:39In May 2018, Drew and Linda celebrated their wedding in Italy. Between special bachelor
04:44and bachelorette celebrations and just hanging out with family and friends, the extended party
04:48lasted 10 days. On the day of the ceremony, the wedding party included 10 bridesmaids
04:53and 300 guests attended. The couple's wedding even had its own TV special on TLC,
04:57Drew and Linda Say I Do. Surprisingly, they were already married by then.
05:01On their way to Europe, Drew and Linda had a secret wedding in Nashville, Tennessee.
05:05In contrast to all the glitz and glamour of their Italian celebration,
05:09this event was super low-key. An officiant came to them,
05:12and as Drew recalled on their YouTube channel,
05:14"...and instead of exchanging rings, we exchanged burgers, and we got married in a hot tub."
05:20It turns out this was a practical decision. In the same video, Drew said,
05:24quote,
05:24"...there's a whole other process if you want to get married overseas."
05:27Even with getting the legalities out of the way,
05:29their trip to Italy wasn't without a couple of hiccups. En route to the bachelorette party,
05:33Linda and her friends got caught in a hailstorm. While biking to a cooking class,
05:37they were completely drenched when they arrived. Linda, however, looks back on it with humor.
05:42In an episode of the couple's podcast, she recalled,
05:44"...it was hilarious. We were all huddled in the bathroom under the really dinky hand dryers."
