00:00I can't believe you've been playing this character for 19 years.
00:05Oh, it's 19 years. Crazy.
00:07Surprise.
00:08Nice clubhouse.
00:21When you were a kid and you were in Better Luck Tomorrow, did you ever think like,
00:27oh, I'll probably keep playing this character in one of the biggest franchises in the world?
00:32No. I thought Better Luck Tomorrow was going to be my last acting gig, so who knew, right?
00:38Seriously? That was kind of one and done?
00:40Yeah, you never know. I mean, even now I look at every job as potentially my last job. You
00:45never know in this business, you know?
00:47So you and Justin have said on record that it's the same character,
00:53but does that mean that Better Luck Tomorrow is officially a film in the F.A.S.T. franchise?
01:00I don't think we can talk about that because Better Luck Tomorrow is a Paramount movie and
01:06F.A.S.T. is universal, so, you know, I think there's two separate IPs,
01:11so I don't know if we can actually blend the world, right?
01:14Yeah. So as far as you guys are concerned, you know.
01:19Yeah, absolutely.
01:20You have your own mythology going on.
01:22Han and I will do it, right, Han?
01:25It's all yours, man.
01:26So, like, 19 years, that's a long time. How would you say, as like a movie franchise,
01:32how would you say the F.A.S.T. films have changed your life? I know it's a big question.
01:36Well, it's given me a different set of shoes to walk in, definitely. You know, it's like,
01:41you know, before Han, I had no responsibility outside myself, you know? It's like now,
01:48you know, this character represents something positive to so many people. And then,
01:54even if you break it down to, like, Asian Americans, you know, it's a character that,
02:02you know, gives a lot of young kids, the 12-year-old version of me
02:06living in Georgia, a place at the table, you know, a place in the clubhouse, if you will, you know?
02:12Definitely has changed my life in that way, you know? Aside from all the other stuff, you know?
02:19Yeah, who knew that a character was going to give me, I guess, insight, you know? I mean,
02:25I don't know how to describe it, you know what I mean? But it's forcing me definitely to be a
02:32better person, you know? I do have responsibility, you know, when I do go outside and what Han means
02:40to people, especially now.
02:46These films have been around for so long that they're becoming, like,
02:49increasingly self-referential, you know what I mean? They have, like, so much to work with.
02:54Is it exciting for you when you read a new script to see the callbacks that they're going to work in?
02:59And are there any in particular that got you all jazzed?
03:02Yeah, well, anytime I see Tokyo Drift references, I get super excited.
03:10Take mine.
03:12And then within the, you know, like, you know, every film does like a, what do you call it?
03:20Like a little homage to all the previous films, you know? And you get to see all the cars that
03:26kind of define the franchise.
03:28And F9 has lots of Tokyo Drift stuff, so that was probably dope.
03:32Great shirt, by the way. Thank you for your time.
03:34Yeah, Tyrese is making fun of me.
03:37Do you think?
03:37Yeah, I look like a Hawaiian ballet. I'm in a Hawaiian hotel.
03:42Not today.
