Meet one of the NCMME's volunteers who is a former miner.
Transcript
00:00I'm a former miner, a former underground official.
00:05And where were that?
00:07I ended up in Doncaster area, Armthorpe, which will mark on the main tunnel.
00:14What happened after the mines closed?
00:17I went to do another job.
00:21I was fed up with just sitting at home, I'd retired.
00:24So I thought I might as well come here.
00:26What's it like being a volunteer here?
00:28It's okay, I mean we've got a discounting canteen, or cafeteria as they call it here.
00:35But I tell everybody it's a canteen, because we never had cafeterias up here.
00:42They look after us, we try to look after all the visitors.
00:48And we'll tell them some stories, some stories we're not allowed to tell them.
00:55We get into trouble if we do.
00:58I come here about half past eight in the morning.
01:02At nine o'clock we get to know what visitors we've got, as regards schools coming in.
01:09We might be allocated to a school to show them around, even to show them where they're going to when they're going underground.
01:19Or showing them around on the pit top at different places.
01:23There's different galleries we can show them.
01:25We can even take them up to where the police centre is, and show them the police.
