A young swordsman (played by Nicholas Tse), wielding the legendary blade "Changguang," sets out to fulfill his late master's dying wish—to locate the nine ancient, unparalleled swords of Central China. He journeys from the northern land of Penglai to the heart of the mainland. Meanwhile, Bai Sankong (played by Ji Chunhua), leader of the Shandong martial alliance and known as the "Sword of Qingping," had previously sworn allegiance to the imperial court. By faking his death during a duel with the young swordsman, he embeds himself as a hidden hand for the court within the martial world.

Bai Sankong's grandson, Fang Baoyu (played by Qiao Zhenyu), has been forbidden from learning martial arts since childhood.
