McDonald's est attaquée en justice par des consommateurs, formés en collectif, après que nombre d’entre eux ont été intoxiqués par la bactérie Escherichia coli, avec une demande d'indemnisation de 5 millions par client contaminé. pour rappel dans cette affirme qui secouent les Etats-Unis, un client est mort et 75 autres personnes sont tombées malades ces derniers jours. Tous ont consommé des «Quarter Pounder», l’équivalent du «Royal Cheese» en France.

L’épidémie serait liée aux oignons présents dans le sandwich. Parmi les plaignants, Amanda McCray de Chicago, et William Michael Kraft de Davie, en Floride. Ils ont déclaré dans leur plainte avoir ressenti plusieurs symptômes typiques d’une infection à la bactérie E. coli, après avoir ingéré des «Quarter Pounder» durant le mois d’octobre.

Tous deux ont affirmé qu'ils n'auraient pas acheté leurs sandwichs si McDonald's avait communiqué sur le risque de contamination, et qu'ils avaient subi des préjudices.

La plainte, déposée devant un tribunal fédéral de Chicago, demande des dommages-intérêts supérieurs à cinq millions de dollars pour toutes les personnes aux États-Unis ayant acheté des «Quarter Pounder» contaminés parla bactérie E.coli.

Au total, au moins 22 personnes ont dû être hospitalisées dans 13 États différents, a fait savoir l'Agence américaine des médicaments (FDA).
