00:00You might be getting old if it surprises you to learn that there's a new generation of
00:03online teens who might not know Jenna Marbles. But where is she now?
00:08Jenna Marbles began her online career when she was writing for barstool sports sister
00:12page Stoolala in 2010. During this time, she also supported herself by bartending,
00:16working at a tanning salon, and go-go dancing. That's when Jenna began uploading vlogs and
00:21skits to her YouTube channel, Jenna Marbles, named after her dog, Marbles.
00:25Marbles, you want a brother?
00:26She adopted the name instead of her real name, Jenna Maury, because her mother was
00:30concerned about their family name appearing in Google search results. Her first big hit,
00:34How to Trick People Into Thinking You're Attractive, paired the perfect clickable
00:37title with her own brand of zany humor. Don't do any of this. Or this. Especially not this.
00:50Over the years, this video alone gained 70 million views. After a while, Jenna Marbles
00:54became known for her sense of energetic, relatable, and sometimes edgy sense of humor.
01:02Her parody songs were spread far and wide across the internet, and she even began popping up on
01:06plenty of other YouTube projects. In what seemed to cement her celebrity status, she was the first
01:11YouTuber to have a wax figure installed at Madame Tussauds Museum.
01:24She also was featured in an episode of Epic Rap Battles of History,
01:37and made a cameo in Pitbull's Fireball music video.
01:43But things for Jenna were about to change. After being an internet icon for 10 years,
01:47she found the culture around her beginning to shift. During the turbulent year of 2020,
01:51amidst the high social tensions of COVID, the BLM movement, and Me Too movement,
01:56some of Jenna's old videos began to resurface and were not being received positively.
02:00I feel like we're at a time where we are purging ourselves of anything and everything toxic.
02:07After a lot of pressure online, Jenna made a solemn apology video where she addressed old skits,
02:12including those where she dressed up as other races. She explained that she left those videos
02:16up to show her path of growth. However, this was not enough. Jenna eventually decided,
02:20after a decade of internet stardom, that she was leaving.
02:23I think now it's hard for that content to exist at all.
02:29Quite suddenly, Jenna disappeared from the internet. She removed or privated several
02:33videos from her YouTube channel, deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts, and announced
02:37an intermittent hiatus. Her fans mourned her absence, and many were in shock that she actually
02:42left. At that time, Jenna simply stated she was taking a break. Years later, however, there are
02:47no signs she's interested in returning to the limelight. But where is she now?
02:50There's been a slow drift feed of information that her fans have collected since her departure.
02:54Jenna met her future husband, Julian Solomita, in 2014 and started dating after launching a podcast
02:59together. Julian has a significant online presence with successful YouTube and Twitch channels,
03:04and sometimes Jenna's dogs would appear on stream, or even rarely, sometimes Jenna herself. Julian
03:08often turns off comments on his social media posts because fans frequently ask about Jenna,
03:13respecting her wish to stay out of the public eye. Jenna married Solomita in 2022, and they
03:17appear to live a quiet, happy life together with their dogs. And it seems as if Jenna
03:21is happy touching grass and leaving the audience wanting more.
