00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most frightening dinosaurs
00:11in film history.
00:22Number 10.
00:23Spinosaurus, Jurassic Park 3 While they never quite matched the thrills
00:26of the original, both The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 managed to introduce some
00:29terrifying creatures.
00:31The compys attack a young girl and then eating Peter Stormata are definitely nightmare fuel.
00:42But we have to give it up to the dino that took down the T-Rex in the third film, the
00:55Spinosaurus.
00:56The beast stalks Alan Grant and company across Isla Sorna, able to hunt them both on land
01:00and in water.
01:12After the Spino devours the world's most indestructible cell phone, the ridiculously
01:17loud ringtone serves as a warning, letting everyone know the call is coming from inside
01:21the paddock.
01:32Number 9.
01:33Geyser Dinosaur, 65 Playing the space traveler Mills, Adam Driver
01:37finds himself stranded on the strange alien planet Earth.
01:45However, the film takes place in the distant past, and he just happens to land right as
01:55a certain asteroid is about to strike.
01:57Making his way across the harsh landscape, he and his companion are pursued by an array
02:01of prehistoric creatures.
02:16The biggest and baddest among them is one invented for the film, a towering thing that
02:20seems to combine elements of both dinosaurs and crocodilians.
02:23In a thrilling conclusion, the hulking monstrosity chases Mills across a geyser-filled plateau
02:27as the killer rock approaches.
02:29Its massive jaws mere moments from making Mills its last supper.
02:42Number 8.
02:43T-Rex, Fantasia Animated to the music of Igor Stravinsky's
02:46The Rite of Spring, the fourth segment of this Disney classic highlights the power and
02:50ferocity of these titanic animals.
02:58The T-Rex is revealed like a classic movie villain, staring down a herd of herbivores
03:02and showing off its dagger-like teeth and claws.
03:05The plant-eaters flee with fear on their faces as the classical score heightens the sense
03:09of dread.
03:17An unnerved Stegosaurus faces down the Rex, who looks on with rage as lightning strikes
03:22in the distance.
03:23The battle of these titans ends with the carnivore landing a brutal killing blow.
03:27The life slowly drains from the Stegosaurus's eyes as the T-Rex roars triumphantly to the
03:31swell of the music.
03:41Number 7.
03:42Indoraptor, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom The Jurassic World trilogy has no shortage
03:46of bigger, badder dinosaurs that could scare the pants off of you.
03:49These include the massive Gigantosaurus, which hunted our heroes in Dominion, and the genetic
03:54hybrid Indominus rex from the first film.
04:04However, when it comes to sheer terror, a smaller dinosaur is the one that really takes
04:13the cake.
04:14In Fallen Kingdom, a scaled-down and more feral version of the Indominus, known as the
04:18Indoraptor, hunts humans with the single-minded determination of a slasher villain chasing
04:22its prey.
04:26Like Michael or Jason, the Indoraptor even stalks a teenage girl, coming close to stabbing
04:31her in her bed with its fearsome talents.
04:41Number 6.
04:42Rhetosaurus, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms Coming from master monster maker Ray Harry
04:47Housen, this colossal prehistoric beast is awakened from its icy slumber by nuclear testing.
05:06The 200-foot-long monster terrorizes the coast as it makes its way to its ancient breeding
05:10grounds, which unfortunately happen to be located in the middle of New York City.
05:14The scenes of it destroying New York created with techniques like rear projection and stop
05:18motion are still scary to this day, and would go on to influence Godzilla.
05:33This was hardly the last time that Harry Housen would create an iconic dinosaur.
05:37His career was filled with them, culminating in The Valley of Gwangi and its titular Allosaurus,
05:42one of the fiercest dinos put to screen.
05:55Number 5.
05:56Dilophosaurus, Jurassic Park Many of the scariest dinosaurs in this movie
05:59don't appear on screen for quite some time, with the characters instead dropping hints
06:03about just how deadly they are.
06:17The frighteningly beautiful but venomous Dilophosaurus is no exception, so when Dennis Nedry comes
06:22face to face with one, we know what he doesn't.
06:25This animal will brutally kill him.
06:27The Dilophosaurus appears friendly and almost cuddly at first, but it's not until it's
06:40too late when it opens its frill and attacks that Nedry realizes he's dinner.
06:44Blinded by venom spat in his eyes, Nedry attempts to flee into his jeep, right where the dinosaur
06:49is waiting for him.
06:55Number 4.
06:56Who Rex is, King Kong Kong isn't the only oversized beast living
06:59on Skull Island, which is filled with gigantic versions of prehistoric animals that survived
07:03the extinction of the dinosaurs.
07:12Not only did they survive like everything else, they kept evolving, growing even larger
07:16and more fearsome than their tyrannosaur cousins.
07:18The vastatosaurus Rex is even more of a killing machine.
07:27One hunts Anne Darrow, snapping at her with colossal jaws that could swallow her in one
07:31bite.
07:32Although Anne is saved by Kong jumping in a second, and then third Rex soon arrives
07:36to triple the terror.
07:48The chomping of those jaws fills us with anxiety thanks to some impressive sound design.
07:53Number 3.
07:54Sharptooth, the land before time.
07:56Big, ugly, snarling, with a glaring red eye, this T-Rex seems a little too scary for a
08:00kids movie about cute talking dinos.
08:11So when he shows up out of nowhere interrupting a playful moment, it's all the more shocking.
08:15He chases Sarah and Littlefoot across a barren landscape, sniffing after them like a blood
08:19hound when they flee into thorn bushes.
08:29Although Littlefoot's mother is able to save the day, the triumph doesn't last long.
08:32The behemoths battle on the crumbling cliffside as the earth splits in half at their feet.
08:37Despite seemingly falling to his death, Sharptooth would return, ruthlessly pursuing Littlefoot
08:42and friends with a single-minded devotion.
08:53Number 2.
08:54T-Rex, Jurassic Park.
08:55In a suspenseful moment that only Steven Spielberg could deliver, the first sign of danger from
08:59the T-Rex is its distant yet powerful footsteps.
09:11The characters see the creature before we do, looking on with pure terror as it escapes
09:14its enclosure.
09:15It stares down Lex and Tim in the motionless Jeep, unleashing a bone-chilling roar before
09:19breaking through the vehicle's glass roof and giving viewers one heck of a jump scare.
09:32Many of the characters barely escape with their lives, with the exception of Genaro,
09:35who meets a grisly end.
09:37The sheer power and violence displayed in this scene make even the sound of a distant
09:40roar into a harrowing moment later in the film.

10:04Number 1.
10:05Velociraptors, Jurassic Park.
10:06Introduced in a brutal opening scene we know right from the start of Jurassic Park that
10:10These pack hunters are some of the scariest things ever to live on planet Earth.
10:20To drive the point home, Alan Grant terrifies a child by describing their unrelenting ferocity
10:25in graphic detail.
10:26When we see what they do to a cow, we know he wasn't exaggerating.
10:41The kitchen sequence in which they hunt Tim and Lex is pure horror.
10:44The raptors are perfectly designed killers, but their deadliest weapon is their intelligence.
10:48As Muldoon learned the hard way, just when you think you have the upper hand on a velociraptor,
10:52another is ready to pounce.
11:01Which creature from the distant past do you think made the scariest movie monster?
