00:00The country's debt remains manageable as of September this year.
00:04Meanwhile, the Bureau of Customs found tons of smuggled mackerel and container vans that allegedly came from China.
00:11These and other stories in tonight's Business News Wrap-Up by Kate Renya.
00:18As of September 2024, the Philippines' national debt stood at Php15.89 trillion, with 68.81% locally sourced.
00:27Debt grew slightly by 2.2% from August, mainly due to new local and foreign borrowing.
00:33Domestic debt reached Php10.94 trillion, and external debt rose to Php4.96 trillion.
00:40The government's focus on local funding helps manage risk and supports the economy in maintaining fiscal stability amid global challenges.
00:49The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, or RTWPB6, announced a daily wage increase of Php33 to Php40 for private sector workers in Western Visayas.
01:01The new daily minimum wage is Php485 to Php513 for non-agriculture job and Php480 for agriculture workers.
01:11Domestic workers will also see a Php1,000 monthly increase, raising their minimum wage to Php6,000.
01:18The Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Customs are studying whether to donate large amounts of smuggled mackerel that reportedly came from China.
01:26The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, or B4, will conduct a test to see if it is fit for human consumption.
01:33Based on their information, a Chinese national and three Filipinos are listed as consignees of this shipment.
01:40The BOC stated that anyone involved in the smuggling are likely to face charges under the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act.
