The Melt is leading the way in products for clean tech and advanced manufacturing.
Transcript
00:00I'm Brett Thomas, Director and Chief Operations Officer at The Melt.
00:10My key role and responsibility is managing all the operational activities that happen
00:16through our prototyping facilities, through our programs which help start-ups and scale-ups
00:21accelerate and commercialise their hardware products, particularly focused around clean
00:26tech and advanced manufacturing.
00:28I'm also a passionate investor, I have skin in the game by making sure that those companies
00:35that we invest into have every opportunity for success.
00:39The Melt facility builds, scales, innovates and educates the next generation of start-ups
00:46and scale-ups that are building physical products in the clean tech and advanced manufacturing
00:52space because that's the future of what we need in this country for that net zero transformation.
00:59Most of Australia's key and largest coal mines are here and of course as they diminish over
01:07the course of time we need to find ways to be able to re-employ or re-educate or re-skill
01:14those people in order to keep them here.
01:17And so we're here under a long-term arrangement with a million dollars worth of amazing mechatronics,
01:23robotics, automation equipment and the programs and the technical specialists to be able to
01:28deliver those services that is really going to foster and nurture the growth of those
01:33new emerging clean tech and advanced manufacturing businesses.
01:37The Melt has been very successful in what we do, the investments that we've made through
01:42Melt Ventures in our portfolio of companies include Refilled.
01:47Refilled is on a mission really to remove 100 million plastic bottles by 2030.
01:54The way that they're doing that is through a machine called a Refiller which is capable
01:58of pouring drinks, 100 different flavour combinations, still and sparkling, to remove plastic waste.
02:06The Hunter is the perfect place and it's really because it's at the heartland of energy production
02:12in New South Wales.
