The Green Sandpiper (Tringa ochropus) is a medium-sized wader with a body length of about 22–24 cm (8.7–9.4 inches) and a wingspan of 56–60 cm (22–24 inches). It has a fairly slender build, with dark greenish-brown upperparts and a white belly, giving it a striking appearance in flight.
Habitat: Green Sandpipers are found near freshwater habitats, such as riverbanks, lakeshores, ponds, marshes, and slow-moving streams. They prefer muddy and vegetated shorelines and are often seen in isolated wetlands or wooded swamps, where they forage in shallow water or mud for insects, small crustaceans, and other invertebrates. During migration and wintering, they can also be found in more open wetlands, flooded fields, and occasionally in coastal estuaries. They breed in northern Europe and Asia and migrate southward to Africa, southern Asia, and southern Europe for the winter.
