00:00Well this is the town of Chiva, ground zero for this climate catastrophe that has shaken a nation.
00:07Well over 200 people now confirmed to have lost their lives. Right here a year's worth of rain
00:14fell in just eight hours. You can see causing complete destruction and devastation. Houses
00:20behind me here completely washed away. The water ran in a torrent through the town bursting its
00:27banks. Let me show you on this side the kind of damage that was done. The river bursting its banks
00:35as I mentioned. Just total scenes of chaos here. We've been speaking to locals and there have been
00:42some horrific stories but also some great tales of generosity and community and this town was
00:49cut off for three days. They didn't receive official help from the military, from any of
00:53the authorities for that time. So they had to take matters into their own hands. They became
00:58first responders and lifesavers in this one of Spain's worst floods in over a hundred years.
01:08I'm Ken Brown for CGTN in the town of Chiva in Valencia.
